RWC Quarter Final: All Blacks - Argentina (09-10-2011, 20:30)

Barnes. What a *******.

Clearly when McAlastair blocks a player he shoulnn't be binned.

And obviously it was an injustice against NZ because they didn't take the easy droppie in the end. 10 minutes of not scoring a try. The world was against them...

Not all of us think like that you know.

Well, it looks like:

1) Argentina miss tackles more often
2) New Zealand are better at kicking
3) Argentina suck at drop goals
4) New Zealand don't turn the ball over in the ruck as often
5) New Zealand don't lose the ball in the scrum as often
6) Argentina suck at lineouts
7) Argentina concede more penalties per match

... what?

Going off that argentinas lineout is the weak point in their forward pack will be intresting to see. Im sure their forwards are going to give us some real challenges though if they get the chance.

Hmm perhaps 'suck' is too strong no.

But yes, overall NZ should just kick for territory... BUT try not to get to drawn into the Scrums and Rucks...

However.. NZ should really contest the ball in their own half should the Argies try to take it ball in hand when they are in possession.. WHY.. Even if you get penalized.. There isa 50+% that the Argy will miss the PK.

Yea.. NZ should just kick for lineouts... And also try not to get into a real physical battle with the Argies.. From the stats, the Argies dont miss too many tackles and also are very good at the Ruck.

Those stats are pretty close in a number of areas, but I guess they also are reflective of the opposition they both have been playing against.

... looks like both sides will contest the rucks and mauls well, and the scrums should be interesting ... I'd imagine that Argentina have played against stronger scrums, and probably taller line outs too

Is it just me.. But is the Scottish lineout really really good?

That Kellock fella seemed to steal a lot of opposition lineout ball from memory.

They haven't faced a scrum as good as ours! They might miss a few extra tackles too because they haven't played a back line that attacks like ours either. All stats favour NZ, and so they should we have been playing better rugby. At the end of the day those stats don't count for anything though I suppose. Whoever plays better on the day will win.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :d

I bring you all another stats of the pool stages that say a lot about both teams:

Games Won: NZ 4 - AR 3
Points scored: NZ 240 - AR 90
Points against: NZ 49 - AR 40
Tries for: NZ 36 - AR 10
Tries against: NZ 6 - AR 3
PTS: NZ 20 - AR 14

All we need (Pumas) is the best match of the XV starters lives. I trust blindly in the attitude of our players. Technically we are overcome by margin. We have better forwards than backs (althought Roncero & Fernández Lobbe are injured). Anyway, we go for the heroic.

They have faced the Georgian/Romanian/Scottish and English scrum thats a pretty a heavy testing lol, and better than anything the AB's have faced so far. (Yes U faced a second string French Frontrow.)

I'm sort of hoping Argentina keep it close, but I wouldn't be suprised if NZ score 30points before the break, Argentina haven't faced such quality backs in a long time.

Points 1), 4), 5) and 7) are draws. The difference is statistically insignificant.
The difference lies in the kicking and in the lines, which is a big deal. I'll give you that.

Hi all

Next year´s 4N will be called " Rugby Championship", and the latest news is that it will start for us on august 17 against SA as locals, but it may change.

That has got to be the most boringly named competition in history.

Well , the main reason is that the contract with Argentina is 4 years long , and the name has been changed to " protect " the 3N name, in case the "experiment" fails (in the economic side , of course , as for team play I guess Argentina can only improve, because we are in the lower step of the best rugby , and ready to climb)

The IRb will give a compensation of u$s 10.000.000 to each city that host a match whit Argentina as visitors, because they think that will be a faillure in the tickets sales, merchandising selling and , it is obviously, touristically ( it is easier to have visitors fans between SA, Aus , and NZ that expecting visitors fans from Argentina)

As far as I know Argentina is the only tier one team not involved in major compition every year. Money and revenue would be a key and I doubt the Fiji and Samoan RFU could fund running a team each year in a major compition. The IRB and the other three unions would only allow a team into the compition if it was financialy viable, with ticket revenue etc taken into account.
