EOYT: Ireland v South Africa, 11/10/2012

Yeah, I also thought Pienaar was quite poor. The ironic thing is he scored that damned try. His general service (primary role!) and decision making can only be summed up as lazy.

During the Wales/Argentina game, Ref Poite said at every ruck "use it", based on this 4-second rule. I was thinking "oh crap, Ruan Pienaar is going to be the sole cause for our loss based only on this clearance rule". and then the little prick goes and scores under the posts...

@ Icemn: Lambie played his first Test at fly-half in 18 months. Heyneke Meyer is giving him a chance this Tour, which means 3 matches. At least, that's what he said. It's funny how people (not on TRF, but elsewhere) write off Lambie after 1 match while sticking with Steyn for over a year before wanting to see him dropped. Lambie did not play a good game, which was disappointing, but with the slow distribution of Pienaar, he hardly got time to make a decision. I would like to see Vermaak play against Scotland, just to see how he does with Lambie. We still have 2 Tests left and if Lambie doesn't perform in those two, he did not take his chance. Plain and simple. Until then, I think he deserves credit for the things he did. Yes, he did not dictate the game the way we were hoping he would, but on defense he was strong, he slotted his penalties (only missed long-range efforts) and I have to give Heyneke Meyer credit for giving Lambie 80 minutes against Ireland.

wonder if lambie was allowed some freedom by HM :? or was he told what to do... ai ai ai...

I saw Taute was on 13 again :? ai ai ai.. why not JP or JDJ on 13 and taute at 15... Zane is solid at the back though but now it the time to experiment...

Lambie didn't have any freedom because our forwards were in sleeping mode the entire first half and we hardly had any front foot ball. Not HM's fault.

who else? what about ougaart again ? lol

I wouldn't say they were asleep but they took some time to get to grips with Barnes' overly technical approach to reffing sure. That said I'm not complaining because in some fixtures I'd give anything to have Barnes' approach implemented.

Hougaard is a good player and didn't make any mistakes but he doesn't go looking for work like Habs or Pietersen so he ends up being annonymous in the current SA gameplan. Basson would work better for his chasing.

Really??

**** he was worse than Bryce Lawrence!!

ok, but what i ment was that a coach can tell players what to do on the field... he could have told lambie to be more reserved etc not play his usual high risk rugby... etc

All our forwards were lazy. We never had people at the breakdown, rucks were unstable and Pienaar messed up when he rushed his recycling. I really want Coetzee in the starting line-up with Alberts being a wrecking ball off the bench. That's the best option for the blindside flanker-position. Vermeulen needs to pick up his game. He looks lost.

Vermaak could be an option. He is a better scrum-half than Hougaard, which the Bulls coach has determined as well. Hougaard is a winger, but not among the best wingers in the country.

He could've but he didn't... there was just no way to see if HM gave him any rights or not. Lambie got very little ball, and usually had to kick as we were under pressure

before you solve something or look for solution we need to identify the problem first...

so what is the problem here??? why is SA playing ugly rugby, even though they have the players to do so much better :?

Uhm I think you want to jump to conclusions way too fast... this test can't be seen as a true reflection of how we can play. The field was wet and misty, scrummaging was tricky with the slippery underfoot conditions. The new laws that the boks had to play under for the first time, Beast's withdrawal from the team hours before the match where he was supposed to start. All these things played a massive role. lets see what happens next week.

He was pedantic but technically correct though. I don't mind that as long as it counts both ways which it did. Lawrence just flat refused to ref at all and we were the ones playing ball in THAT game. I prefer middle ground but between Barnes and Lawrence I'll always pick barnes LOL.

Yeah we can do with Coetzee's omni-potent presence even if Alberts can make a bigger impact, Coetzee WILL have a TON of significant if smaller impacts on the game. I'd consider resting Vermeulen, ja. I think he brings what we need from an 8 in big games but he hasn't had 1 games rest all year. I do think us comitting less players to the breakdown than Ireland did mean we had them wrapped up in defense and with them not penetrating it was game over as soon as we got ourselves ahead. That's Stormers rugby LOL.

Yeah I feel for Hougie. Not the best wing or scrummie but because he can play both he'll probably end up on the bench before long.

I have to say I don't mind ugly if it;\'s effective as simple effeciency is a form of beauty I quite admire. We aren''t being even close to efficient though in our approach to the game.

It's difficult to make conclusions based on one game it's true and there were set-backs but some of the underlying issues have been around for a while now through no fault of HM.

nope been looking at this whole year... is there any progress made? or is HM still trying to find his 1st team combo :?

like i said i smethimes feel for HM, his has 4 or 5 players in each position, all on the same level regarding skill and potencial, where SH in NZ has 2 players per position way ahead of the other NZ players... making his job easier and HM very very difficult... and causing conflict with fans as everyone feels diff as to who'm they want to play... if you undertand what i'm trying to say... BUY HM is not doing himself any favours... sticking to JDV, Taute on 13, not kicking pienaar onder his gat, and stop being predictable, crashing the ball up with the forwars the whole time and uysing the backline as the last resort... mix it up a bit atleast...

We always knew this first year would be this aggravating as a Bok-supporter. And the huge amount of injuries hasn't made it easier. Taute will get his chance at 15, don't worry. HM has always been protective of the young guns, and rightly so. He has gone for the slow approach of getting them involved, which I think will help us in the long haul. HM did the right thing in leaving the backs as they were making it much less distracting with the new pivot...

At first I was hoping for new guys in this EOYT, but only in October I realized there is something important about these friendly matches after all, the ranking for the World Cup draw. This time next year I expect us to experiment a lot with new combinations. 2015 is still 3 years away and there's enough time for youngsters like Serfontein, Jordaan, du Toit, Brache, Kitshoff, van Zyl, le Roux, Stander, Schoeman, Bresler, Bondesio, Reinach, Elstadt, Armand, W. Liebenberg and others to fight for their chance.

We need a win against Scotland to be sure we are in the top4, meaning we don't play the big guns in the pool stages.

Game was pretty dull...
Just hope Lambie gets another chance as Steyn had 38 chances

Pitty we never saw Vermaak and especially Brits, what are they there for then
CJ is old, period, Heinke offered way more but would still like to see Guthro with added experience getting a start.

Like I read on another forum about Heyneke : We need a visionary, not a historian - and that was very applicable to the JdJ,JT and Scarecrow debate

True, Gena. One of the reasons we have a bench with players is so we can give players a rest who have been playing out of their skin or to add some spark to the match. In this case, the latter was applicable. This also happened against the Wallabies at Loftus, where Juan de Jongh and Elton Jantjies were waiting in anticipation and actually looking up towards the box to get a signal to come on. Only the final few minutes they were allowed to take the field. Same thing with Lambie and Goosen in Perth. What's the use of subs if they only play a handful of minutes, or like this weekend, not at all.
