England v South Africa - 16/11/2024 (17.40)

In a game like this where physicality is huge...why have Dombrandt on the bench and not Ted Hill??

God I hope the young props come through quick ..and England stop f#+king around with Fordjour and just play him at TH!!

Defence the big issue though.....and I'm worried about El Abd when they mentioned the stats of his current team in France!

Edit .
And as Kolisi said .. experience is massive.

How many games in charge has he had? Where's the improvement and how much time do you give him?
100% this.

What improvements has he actually made

I'd also argue he's built his team round the wrong older heads. George is probably the 4-6th best hooker in England. But in his defence Eddie Jones didn't leave the right players capped and really had handicapped a middle generation of players.

Lose against Wales or Italy in the 6N and then we would be in a crisis.

We only just beat both this year. They were wins, but totally unconvincing. A defeat to either in 25 would surely be curtains.

I said I'd take a view on SB after the AIs. Jap doesn't matter, we'll win that. Honest, decent bloke etc, but a bit like he was as captain just not quite got what it takes at the very highest level. Kind of what I thought on the day he was appointed. RFU is now in a difficult position (of their own making).

When we lose all the other games and shape past Italy and wales again surely that's a sign for SB to go as that would be a whole year without any improvement?

I think anything other than coming 2nd in the 6 nations should be sackable.

@AngloScotsHybrid agree but he shouldn't have played. I lay that blame on SB as his selection has been poor. Like his coaching and gameplan.

Selection and coaching IMO is what's lacking at the minute. Isn't defence meant to be the simplest thing to get right? We've really missed Mitchell this Autumn but let's face it his rise was by luck more than design.

I've watched 2 games per year at Twickenham minus the covid interruption for a long as I can remember one of the autumn's one 6N. Been pretty hard going post 2019.

Who is the alternative though? The problem was less appointing Borthwick, it was extending Jones. Right now, I don't think there's an obvious and available candidate, but flip me, we can definitely upgrade on the coaches around him.

Well...he has 2 months to get together with El Abd and his team and sort this out.

He won't last a poor 6n....

I can't really think of many positions we have in the England squad where I go yeah that's his to keep some in a good way. I think Martin and Itoje are nailed on.

Like underhill v Curry others in a bad way

Available and the Rfu having the money is the issue.

I think they can't afford not to get someone new in for the summer.
Way cheaper than trying to get someone mid-season.

Cheika and O'Gara would be viable options then (especially if agreed relatively early, to give the clubs time to replace), both a step up on Borthwick.
