Super Rugby play-offs: Reds - Sharks in Brisbane (21/07/2012)

I agree, hopefully the sharks will underestimate ben lucas as I think he is a very solid player and can be pretty dangerous, expect tapuai to get a fair bit of game time also.
ben lucas :? the scrum half :? sounds like you saying he's flyhalf :? were is harris then :?

Lucas can play scrumhalf, flyhalf and fullback, like Ruan Pienaar. A very versatile player.

ok no prob, but is he confirmed on flyhalf :? or just wishfull thinking :D

the team lineup hasnt been named, but I would be surprised if he isn't starting flyhalf, he was solid when they beat the chiefs at FH, they won't move harris from inside centre as he has been good there and they wouldn't have to change much if lucas comes straight into fh.

mmmmm... interesting... what other backup flyhalves are there? harris and lucas? is that it :?

what about second five-eight's? only harris? faainga prob on13....

On St. Paddies day earlier this year, Genia played as fly-half against the Sharks for a big part of the match... He even took over the kicking duties, without success though

That was a good day for Draggs.
Nervously looking forward to this match. Only problem is kickoff time!

Problem with the Sharks is that they are trying to play a NZ style with South African players who are use to play a different style since the day they started playing rugby. The Reds is a team that can hold the ball for long periods of times building up with their pivot Genia running the show. If you do not have a good ball winner to win the ball at the break down for that turn over to start a counter you are in trouble.

This is hilarious.

This is hilarious.

Big 12 Pieter Muller, Halstead, Steyn. Dynamic flyhalf who is the pivot of the team. Michelak, Honniball, Lambie. Score a lot of tries from scored turn overs and the opposition losing the ball. Cheetahs, Blues, Brumbies, Stormers......

You do realise that your signature proves that you are wrong all the time, right?

What has a style of play of a team got to do with my signature? Why do you think way back Ian Macintosh went to the Freestate and collected Henry Honniball, Andre Joubert and Pieter Muller from there?

To get in the mood, I am watching all matches between the Sharks and Reds since 2007. Have the day off tomorrow so I can get back to my tradition on this... Funny to see Quade Cooper in his early career. He was already so talented back then, but without the attitude.

The Sharks are on fire. Literraly what happen at the Shark Tank? Heard the upper level was burning.

Umm Jono Lance and Sam Lane who is fifth choice and did get a game or two this year, they don't have many specialist centres at all to be honest, a lot of the players are quite versatile though, i think the only other centres are tapuai, aidan toua, f'sautia can play centre, probably a few others.

Id be surprise if the reds have won more than 1 game against the sharks since 2007? He was obviously talented back then but his decision making was just terrible and he did some strange/dopey things. There's a great video of him and david pocock playing school boy rugby back in 2005 on youtube and its crazy how good they were back then also.

Reds Lineup named as follows

1. Greg Holmes
2. Saia Faingaa
3. James Slipper
4. Rob Simmons
5. Adam Wallace-Harrison (vc)
6. Jake Schatz
7. Liam Gill
8. Scott Higginbotham
9. Will Genia (c)
10. Ben Lucas
11. Digby Ioane
12. Mike Harris
13. Anthony Faingaa
14. Dom Shipperley
15. Luke Morahan

Pretty predictable Reds lineup -should be a tight game.

The Sharks have a massive edge in the front row - it will be interesting to see how much of an advantage they get in the scrum. I think the Reds have an edge in the locks - mainly as they actually have two locks in their starting lineup! Wallace-Harrison has particularly impressed me in recent weeks too. The loose-forward battle is particularly interesting to me: I rate Coetzee very highly and he has a clear edge over Schatz (though I've been impressed with Schatz recently). Gill has an obvious edge over Daniel at the breakdown, but Daniel is certainly better with ball in hand. I think Higginbotham and Kankowski are similar players- both play a bit loose for my liking, but can be very effective if the rest of their pack can gain dominance.

Even without Cooper the Reds have a clear edge in the halves - almost solely due to Genia's brilliance. I'm not a big fan of McLeod, and Michalek is a bit 'hot and cold'. I think Lucas will do a pretty good job for the Reds - he is clearly not the play-maker that Cooper is, but he is under-rated I feel. I don't think either midfield is overly strong - Whitehead looks solid, and though Jordaan looks very promising, he is very inexperienced. Harris and Faingaa certainly isn't the most creative mid-field, but they are pretty solid on defense. Both teams have plenty of fire-power outside: Ioane vs Pietersen and Shipperly vs Mvovo are particularly interesting match-ups.

I find this a very hard match to call - I'm going to pick the Reds by 5, solely due to their home advantage...
