Aviva Premiership - Round 6

Ah yeah forgot about Brad. Didn't catch the whole thing, been reading forums and reports trying to figure out what went wrong!

Yeah, if anything Catt coming on for James and Cooper-Wooley coming on for Cittadini was the changer, that's where Bath's scrum penalties were coming from.

You're right to make this point about scrum stats' fallibility - but in truth the Wasps first choice of Mullan Festuccia and Cittadini have been going forward against a number of very strong scrums this season - so I have no qualms about quoting that stat.
Also, Cittadini had come off shortly before Davies and I'd argue that was equally or more important.
It's pretty hard to say when a change in momentum happens in the scrum because it's not like we have a scrum every minute of the game.

Cooper-Wooley has done well so far this season, poor work from Cardiff to have let him go.

You do realise that Jack Cooper-Woolley left Cardiff because Wasps offered him a deal whilst he was injured with the Blues and recovering from a nasty knee injury. He is from London, former Quins Academy player before moving to Cardiff Uni. He always wanted to go back home if an offer to return to London area came. Cardiff never had a chance when Wasps came calling.

He would have been worth a deal, but never had a chance to really prove it with that long injury. Anyway Cittadini appears to be a bit of a cheat at the scrums, a referee should find him out soon enough and JCW could be pushing towards challenging first choice in my opinion.

Good god yes he should have been given a deal no doubt. Gatland famously walked into the changing room after his last Welsh Varsity game and sat with him and told him he had a long future in Wales ... so the story goes.

Leroy Houston has been banned for three weeks.

****.

Jared Payne got a red card for his hit on Goode in which Goode was knocked unconscious in the challenge and a 2 week ban. Payne pleaded not guilty (IIRC) but was found so anyway.

Yet Houston gets three weeks, where is the consistency?

I don't think its simple a case as 'cardiff really wanted him but how could you compete with the wasps offer..'

Jake had been loaned out from cardiff rfc to bedwas for the previous 2 seasons. There's not that much evidence that Cardiff appreciated his potential and I think they could have made it harder for wasps had they really wanted to. Wasps gave JCW far more first team rugby than he expected and those expectations must have been in part based on how he was seen at Cardiff.

He wasn't contracted to the Cardiff / Blues until his final year. He had been following around Martyn Fowler who was coaching the University, Bedwas and eventually Cardiff RFC. Most of the top Uni players did this. Before JCW injured his knee he was set to be given the starting 3 shirt for the season to develop but his knee blew out on pre-season tour of South Africa. He missed the entire season and as I said, once Wasps came calling he had his sight set on home.
