Aviva Premiership - Round 12

Got to be one of Saints, Tigers, Quins or Gloucester - don't think the others come in to play.
Though from those, I don't really know. For all the talk of Tigers being salary cap cheats, most of their big names they either create, or buy in as unknowns and make great - so neither group would be on huge salaries. Saints are in the same boat.
If it was this season then I could see Gloucester there, but last? I dunno.
Equally, with Quins, other than Evans who is on mega mega bucks? They've got a number of internationals, but only the England guys are really high profile, and then they'd get salary top ups from their England match fees etc.

Pretty sure Johnson is SA quailifed although I agree the way he place the ball back was poetic using his power to jump backwards to give himself more time a thing of beauty.

no offense Olyy but this isn't the rematch people are looking forward to tomorrow.

He actually knocks it forward, Festuccia dives off his feet onto it and Lund latches on winning the penalty (which would have otherwise been a Sale scrum) sooooooo............ :p

and I know I know, I actually agree - very much looking forward to the Tigers/Bath game. I actually find myself supporting Tigers in it, against all better judgement.

Shhhhhh...........

Think Tigers may lose but with Burgess @ 13 and no Roko I feel we have a chance.

If Bath had got Joesph and Roko in I don't think we would of had a chance when you look how we defended against Sale and Saints we are all against wide attacks.

It's such a shame Manu isn't back for this game, him and Burgess running at each other would probably level the East Midlands.
Which would be great.

West Midlands represent!

Though, to be honest, I'm a little surprised Bai hasn't been shoe horned in at 13. I know he's a 10/12, but he was probably Tigers' best back (before Harrison came on) vs us, and Goneva is infinitely better on the wing. Would be harsh to drop one of Benjamin/Scully for Goneva(/Bai), but I think Bai would add something extra to the Tigers midfield.

Yeh I wanted Bai @ 13 TBH he was really aggressive in his running.

But it was the first time he had played since week 1 and he looked knackered after the game so maybe ATM it is felt he would be better off as a impact sub.

Joseph is a big loss (and don't get me started on Burgess in the hardest channel to defend ... ) but Roko has been a shadow of himself since his one England cap and following injury. Whether it's related to the injury, or the slightly shoddy way he was treated by Lancaster, or simply one of those things, he has obviously lost confidence. Against Montpellier (I think it was) he got Teflon hands and dropped everything in sight, including a clear run in to the line from an inside pass of Ford. Banahan and Agulla are genuinely our two form wingers, Agulla in particular.

I'm really looking forward to this game, but nervous. Obviously you won't let us do what we did at The Rec again, but if we can get the ball going wide and get outside you we could be up for a famous win, but you'll be out for revenge and will look to do what you did to Toulon. My main worries are 1) Burgess at thirteen; 2) trying to do do much too early, like we did against Exeter; and 3) you guys going all out and knocking us off our game (especially combined with #2). If we play clever, and combine the brilliance we are capable of with the game management we are also capable of, I would just about have us favourites to win. I think. But I'll never feel confident against Tigers...

Harry Allen did look quite handy for Irish. Shame he had to get himself kicked out of the Quins academy really...

I'm intrigued to see Burgess play 13. In attack, with more space and the opportunity not to have to run at forwards, he might be its a sight! I'm defence it is going to be like watching a puppy trying to fight off wolves. All round entertainment!

Quins win is a formality. Chance to give a few players a rest and try some new combos out. Honestly more excited for Tigers/Bath.

Sod's law dictates that it's going to be a right snoozefest, now.
6 - 3 Tigers.

Couple of late changes:

JJ drops off the bench for Bath, replaced by Roko.

Tuitupou drops out of the Sale side, replaced by Jennings.

Anyone else watching Sale?
Really did not expect our scrum to have this much dominance, particularly Mcintyre over Cobilas.

Di Marchi and Mamukashvili can't scrum and can't maul - it's 1 vs 3 in the front row at scrum time. We need to bring on Fridge and Jones at halftime if we want anything from this game. Would bring on Beaumont as well, try and get out maul working.

Urgh, that Simpson try was just embarrassing.

haha, that try was hilarious. Who was the poor ******* who was literally held horizontally in the air by Bradley Davies whilst 3 other Wasps ripped the ball?
But yeah...the Sale pack were AWOL there, as with most of the half.

Harrison did a job for you guys earlier in the season at the AJ - is he out?

Harrison is being converted into a tighthead because we have literally no other option there. Di Marchi was supposed to be our cover for 3, but he is literally horrendous there, so they've had to shoe horn Ross in (he played a little bit of tighthead in his teens, but that was only really because you had one prop on the bench so everyone had to play both sides).
I'm really hoping AdM has a get out clause or something in his contract and we can get rid at the end of the season. I imagine he's on a tidy wage, so if we can then spend that on a halfway decent(/competent) tighthead then we'll be grand.

Bath are doing themselves no favours at all. This is just like the Wasps game where a constant stream of stupid penalties prevents us from getting the ball. Having said that, Tigers are playing very well.

Dumb as hell from Bath, composure is just appalling. I hope we sort it out in the second half, but I've got reservations over our ability to deal with pressure in high intensity games like this. Stupid penalties, lucky not to have had a yellow against Webber and possibly a team yellow too.

This is just embarassing from Sale.
We have absolutely no strength in depth - take away a few of our starters and we're dog****.

I don't know enough about it to say that it seems like a good idea but, good tightheads are rarer than good looseheads I guess...

I don't know what it is about Miller. he's one of the most talented English runners with the ball, his ability to pick a top line and break the line is pretty unique... but he sometimes lacks the top two inches, sometimes his basic skills let him down or he lacks composure.
Oh dear lord who fell off that tackle on Hughes?
Lund must be the only blindside in the prem who hasn't let himself be embarrassed by Wade there...marshalled him well.

Edit: Tom Lindsays on now so you should stand a chance.

Glos beat Exe away and Sale are being trounced by Wasps.

Happy start to 2015. :p
