[2015 RWC] Pool A: England vs. Wales (26/09/2015)

I think England will still get out of the group, anything can happen as with the welsh injuries and this game will have taken alot out of them they could struggle with Fiji.
I hope SL has the balls to drop barritt he's had some quiet games.
I'd lime to see Burgess with jj if fit if not slade

Burgess did nothing to show he is ready for international Union and should not play in the remaining few games England have left! He is a proven failure........

How many teams when behind faced with a break up in play, stretchers coming on and off would galvanize moral and go on to win? Fantastic, well done Wales.

From what I've seen there was absolutely nothing deliberate about it, just bad luck.

Yup.

That said - if we're serious about eradicating concussion from the game as much as possible - I think accidental contact with the head in cases like those need to get cited as well.

Not sure about that. I don't think he did anything wrong, and a lot of players would have fallen off some of the tackles he made (Roberts in the first 5 mins, and North on the touchline).

I'm thinking of the damage that a Roberts-Burgess centre partnership could do on the next Lions tour....ouch!

He went off at 69min, they scored 10 points after he went off, not exactly his fault.

It's weird knowing it was going to pan out like this.

Disappointed.

Agreed - until the full extent of injuries to Scott Williams, Liam Williams and Hallam Amos is known.

Anybody know what the RWC rules are around selecting players from outside the original 31 squad to come in during the tournament if you can't field a full competent side + subs due to injury.
As far as I know you can bring in injury replacements at any stage. The caveats are that the swap out is permanent and there is a 3 day stand down period. Could be wrong, but that is what I heard.

Why did we bring Ford on?
Burgess obviously had gas left in the tank, and our defensive line has now gone to ****

Good call.
Dragging Burgess took away the key midfield tackling machine and go forward grunt.
It was lancasters only serious blunder and it cost him the game. Burgess needed to play the full game.

The one thing I saw from Burgess was that bizarre kick ahead which got marked deep inside the 22 by Wales. It was a minor incident, and not a huge mistake or anything, but it did raise my eyebrow a bit. I mean what on earth was Sam Burgess kicking for? Surely he was told to either pass or truck it up, so either poorly coached, or stupidly trying to prove his doubters wrong. A minor thing, but the inference that can be drawn from it perhaps not so minor.

Anyway, how did he go for the first half? Cant have been too bad surely?

First player I would drop from that English team is Barritt though. He has been poor this world cup: gives away penalties, and poor reads in D.

As Williams was commenting on the substitution Roberts went and stormed down the Farrel/Ford channel...

Wow! Just watched this. Incredible effort by Wales. Can't believe they won this match with the players they had missing. Just incredible!

I don't know. I thought Burgess did ok. However, this needed to be happening in the 6 nations, not the middle of the WC, because he still seems far from comfortable. His kicking game is terrible, just awful. And he doesn't seem to have quite got to grips with the rules at the breakdown with regards to releasing a player before competing for the ball.

Not sure England have anyone better to come in. Pair him with just about anyone but Barritt at 13, and you'd have more success. If Joseph is fit, then great, if not Slade is the guy.

I have to say the defensive shape in the backline went to **** when Burgess came off..

For what it's worth, this group is not over.
Wales don't have a backline, their lack of depth is horrifying.
England still have home advantage and if they can learn to leave burgess on the pitch they will close games out defensively, and if Robshaw had a pair of gonads he would have told George to F**k off and let owen take the kick with 2 minutes on the clock because a DRAW is MUCH BETTER than a LOSS.
What was Robshaw thinking letting George Ford call the shots in the heat of the moment ???
Loser captain.
That is the worst captain's decision i have seen in decades.
Martin Johnson will be seething after seeing that limp waisted brain fart action.
Farrell was on fire with the boot, this game was like knockout rugby in the group of death. Play to stay in the game rather than gamble everything and get pushed out of play by an organised forward pack.
Robshaw should be shunted from the captaincy and give it to Farrell the kicking machine.
