2012 IRB Junior World Championship

New Zealand just scored their fourth try. 28 - 12 now. That means they'll finish with 11 points in total and will progress to the semis ahead of France.

And with a little more than 10 minutes to go, South Africa is leading 28 - 12 against England.

So it will come down to:

Wales - New Zealand
Argentina - South Africa

F**king unbelievable. Congrats SA, sorry Ireland.

Incredibly poor option taking.

Bad luck Ireland. Deserved to go through on balance over the three performances(SA v good too, obv). Just a 15 minute period in which a thoroughly uninspiring and uncreative England used the scrum as a weapon to beat Ireland because they werent doing anything else well

Cheers England, you useless bunch of ********.

In fairness, it's your own bloody fault for being unable to beat us :)

Well I was right that this age group wasn't much. But I was wrong to blame the forwards.

England tired in the second half. Ireland tired against England in the second half. SA had the advantage of having the easy game against Italy as their second game and thats the reason they finished top of the group, IMO. England were well on top in the first half.

Tbf they looked a more than decent side during the 6N.

Call me an arrogant Saxon if you will, but that tournament is our birthright. Anything less than a Grand Slam there is cause for raised eyebrows.

The lack of a winking yellow face here suggests your serious.

Maybe the Eng under 20's should join the under 20s rugby championship (new tri-N), we'll have the Georgia under 20's in your place & then I won't have 2 miss a game due to the ENG/Sky Sports sell out.

I don't see why you're getting slightly butt hurt by that comment. Fact is, England should win the under 20's 6 nations every year. They've got by far and away the largest player pool, which makes a much larger difference at underage than it does at senior level. Add that to the fact that they seem to spend a lot more time focusing on gym work than the other nations meaning all of their players are bloody massive (the others do eventually catch up) and you can see why they'd expect to win.

Yup.

That and the fact we generally do. We've been dominant at age grade level basically ever since the new academy system came on line. Maybe this is the sound of people catching up, who can say, but until I see it for sure I will continue to expect England age grade sides to beat everyone not called New Zealand. The occasional loss will happen, particularly away from home, but two in one season is call enough for me to say "Not that good".

I also think the coaching staff should be looked at in the light of this.

And don't be stupid. I love playing you guys and want you to catch up. Facts are facts though.

You must take into account a tactical decision here, an under performance there, a bounce of the ball, state of pitch, weather etc. You can't say England should win it every year but they should be up there challenging, which they are.

England looked better than SA in the first half but couldn't defend in the second half. They must have been tired.

I know attitudes are definitely changing in Ieeland at least. Where once it was no gym work until you're at least 16 now first years are doing it. I know one school at least that has been giving students protein shakes from age 12.

Wales would have to be favourites against us. We haven't played our best team but Wales have looked far better than us in all of their game so far.

This is probably common knowledge to most people but I heard in New Zealand they often grow up training grouped by weight rather than age. Therefore you have to develop the skillset for a rounded game. E.g that kid who is absolutely huge compared to everyone else at 16 and just batters everybody but then when steps up a group find that everyone is big enough to cope with him and that he hasn't developed the skills to stand out. Basically seems to make you learn a rounded set of attributes rather than relying on one central skill. If you look at that bunch of England U20's at the moment as people have said they will be caught up sizewise and then they'll need to stand out in other ways. why not have that focus sooner rather than later.

Anyway, on paper Peat, last year was the year England should have won the championship, with the core of wasps players already starting regularly in the premiership. Definitely missed a trick there.
