Tri Nations: Wallabies - All Blacks @ Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane (27-8-2011, 10:05GMT)

Saw this interesting article about an incident with the match:

Two men dress as Samo; racist?

I
saw these two fellas during the match when the TV cameras panned over the crowd. I do not see how this can be seen as them being racist? It would be if they were shouting and making racist comments against Samo during the match, but they went there to enjoy themselves and celebrate the greatness of SAMO. Political correctness has ruined this world.

Now this is racism

Some of these PC jerk-offs seriously need to get over themselves. I distinctly remember Bay the fans in 13 at the MCG used to mimic Aussie Fast Bowler Merv Huighes' warm-up stretches, and they often used to dress like him too, complete with big, thick moustache. No accusations of racism then.

Its a fvcked world when we cant poke a bit of fun at someone without OTHER precious faggots, who have NOTHING to do with the sport, the players or the fans, sticking their unwanted PC noses into it.

Watch yourself Cooky, not referring to Big Merv as a "Bloody Legend" could be considered racist against us. :p

How is that second one racism either? Doesn't sound like they made any comments about his race at all... Course we don't know the full story.

Interestingly enough, I've done a paper on several incidents like this in media. The reason why this kind of stuff really envokes anger is because of blackface stuff in America:

However, as has been pointed out, it's very much an American problem, and Australians and people from other parts of the world have not known this as an issue. It really came to light recently with an Australian show:

This actually made news all around the world, with Fox Sports running pieces on it, to the View discussing it.

I just don't see how that last video is racist.

They were impersonating the Jackson 5, one of the glaring differences between the performers and the Jackson 5 would've been the skin colour, so naturally to eliminate this you paint your face black. It wasn't mocking blacks at all. That's like saying if I wear a French rugby shirt and go to a French market I being racist.

What a load of crap...

I understand the black face problem in America, but if they're gonna go and get uppity about anything similar then the problem will never be overcome.

In additions to which, this was in Australia, at a rugby match between New Zealand and Australia

Who gives a fvck if it offends Americans? No Yanks (sorry, is that a racist term?) involved, so nothing to do with them.

I am still stunned Cooper got off without a ban.

I take solace in the fact that d!ckheads like him always get their come-uppence.

I actually cannot believe some people are up in arms about those Samo supporters.

What the hell, do the people who are complaining actually watch rugby?

Deary me, not even Barney would find something wrong with those supporters (apart from their beers) actions

Ah but you have to be careful. In this instance, these guys were simply dressing up to look like Samo (black skin, big afro), and Samo himself was cool with it. So this is fine, up to the point where Samo is not cool with it.

In the instance of Jackson Jive, that would never be seen on British TV and, frankly, would not be a great loss. Dressing up to closely resemble one person is one thing; caricaturing a race is another - afro wigs, black faces and 'Jive' in your name is not on. Would it be acceptable to paint yourselves yellow and wander around pulling your eyes into slants? No.

Australia, especially with its history of racism, would do well to 'wise up'.

OK, so if Radike Samo was cool with it, then its nobody else's business, especially not the Precious Cnuts Brigade, right?

Well, Radike was cool with it, or he wouldn't have posed with them with that big wide smile on his face.

So, the PC's can just FO!!!

You happy with that?

So you're telling me black people aren't more likely to have afros than other races??

It baffles me how some people can get so precious about things. You can't even blow your nose in public nowadays without someone conducting a report for 60 minutes or filing a lawsuit against you. It's ridiculous! If Samo had no isues with it then it should never have become one.

PC can **** OFF!

And let's be fair, the bloke is fairly black.

this loss is the result Of what the AB do every RWC. They break the team momentum by dropping players! Aus have been playing with the same squad the whole 3N and making only a few changes every game, where the AB make 11 changes and then something like 9... Pls GH stick to 1 team in the RWC, then nobody will stop the AB. This is why the AB lost to France aswell in 2007, no momentum cuz the squad is altered every game...the AB best advantage is their downfall everytime... Their depth!!!

I have to agree there with you, Kobus Wiese said this weekend on a magazine show that Graham Henry's problem is that he has the best 30, but doesn't know who his best 15 is...

history of racism? where is this perception coming from?

White Australia Policy? "The White Australia policy comprises various historical policies that intentionally restricted "non-white" immigration to Australia from 1901 to 1973."- wiki

dont see wat the fuss is about..its australia not america, where we'd rather have a laugh rather than sook about the old days...lol it'd be funny if this happened in the states tho..
