Transfers rumours

no buget increases of importance, just better players now wanting to sign for a club where progress is the important word and not salary, also classy coaching staff which was not poached from the rugby employment agency (les specialists) plus a magnifique stade, beaches, water sports, excellent wine, good food, multi language club, including Gaston who writes articles on the club web site in English, excellent ecole de rugby,(one of the best in Europe), lots of amazing pretty girls, now half decent beer in the Bodega, tramway, La Chistera (Trinh-Duc's bar in town) i could go on but thats probably enough to entice the better player to the better club
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!..........

Where do I sign............................!! Healthy and happy one to you and yours too!!

Cedric Heymans, released by Bayonne, is "keeping all doors open" !!

Steven Shingler to Scarlets.
LI better lock Armitage in the locker room or they won't have a midfield next season. They arguably don't right now!

Best thing possible for his career to be honest! I just wish they'd dump Rokocoko so he could join a different club! How many tries has he scored with them so far? I know he managed one against Wasps a few week back (play centre ffs), but other than that he's certainly not looked like he's been enjoying his time.

0 in 26 Top 14 matches.

He has scored a couple against the rubbish Italian sides in the Amlin Challenge Cup, that try against Wasps is the only try he has scored for Bayonne against a side from the top three European leagues.

Bayonne have stopped playing him on the wing lately and they are using him as a bosh centre and he didn't look very much like he was going to break his try duck anytime soon last weekend, he has been widely criticised and mocked in France for his performances including by Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal (who nearly signed him in 2009). Unfortunately though, Bayonne have said they want to keep Rokocoko and renew his contract after it runs out at the end of the season (http://www.lerugbynistere.fr/videos/bayonne-enigme-joe-rokocoko-2812121245.php). Bayonne appear to be likely to be avoiding relegation but staying in the bottom 4 again this season, so more Bayonne misery looks like it will continue for Joe, although he has said to the media he is happy and settled there.

So it looks like Rokocoko who is still only 29, will finish his career a shadow of the bright young agile speedster we saw in 2003-05. By the way TRF_Nickdnz, contrary to what you said went wrong with his career when he started to focus on the more physical aspect of his game to the detriment of his pace and agility, he himself has said in recent interview that he made a mistake in his early career of just relying on his pace and finishing skills (http://www.therugbypaper.co.uk/dome...n-wade-must-add-to-his-x-factor-joe-rokocoko/).

Bayonne's other marquee signings who joined at the same time as Rokocoko; Cédric Heymans, Sione Lauaki and Neemia Tialata have also likewise been massive flops for Bayonne as well. Chisholm is the only big name signing they made who has been decent, been even he is hardly one of the best in the league, he is just decent.

Lauaki was best remembered for dropping/throwing the ball a lot at Bayonne, notably he had a nightmare costing Bayonne a win in this game against Castres gifting them a try and also a break that led to a penalty.

Apparently he has enjoyed his time here other than the rugby where he is still not in tune with the lack of serious training and attitdue on te rugby field that he has been used to.......I am sure he woulld like to be in a more professional team but he will have to leave the Basque country to fulfill that

To respond to Mr PD......I must agree with what you say about Bayonne but the atmosphere is appalling and it is little wonder that anyone is showiing his/their true potential in the the cicrumstances there.

In this regard I note that you omit Mike Phillips from list of keynote signings?

He is another example of not coming up to scratch with AB......other than in the Biarritz clubs and subsequent internal disciplinary hearings - that kinda emphasises my point?!!

Yes. The fact that Bayonne have seemingly signed quite a few marquee international All Blacks and other internationals and nearly every single one of them has been a flop suggests that it could be something to do with the joke Bayonne owner who sacks the coaches regularly and also signs all the players himself.

However it could also be that Bayonne have signed players renowned for doing stupid things off the pitch (Phillips), underachievement (Tialata, Lauaki) and players who are past it (Phillips, Flavell, Heymans and Rokocoko plus nearly Kelleher as well). So that's Bayonne fault for signing them.

Yah - I've followed Bayonne with interest this season - as I thought - that was his only try that wasn't against (Treviso? In the Amlin?). It's been dissapointing. I had really hoped he would get out of Bayonne, it seems a death trap for players - the micky mouse owner certainly doesn't help. I actually wanted to support Bayonne when he signed - but after a while it was just painful. Still think Rokocoko could be good again if he joined a different club - like you mentioned he's still young enough to be a good pick up - and from what I have seen he hasn't lost that much pace, just seemingly purpose and direction.

Don't know if what you said is contrary to anything I've said. I'm pretty sure I've always maintained he hadn't decreased much physically (other people have said otherwise). I have a lot of reasons why I think he fell from the AB's. First and foremost - in 2009 he had a very rocky season. South Africa played a non stop kick and chase game and it just looked like Rokocoko's confidence got shot under the high ball, while Henry wanted the AB's to run the ball out of the 22, where the rules wouldn't allow that. For this reason we saw Cory Jane start to shine in the All Blacks and changed our mentality to fullback style winger - which we're only now starting to go back. I do disagree with Rokocoko in one aspect - he looked like he was trying to change his game later on in his career. His work rate increased massively for the Blues - but like my biggest problem when it comes to wingers and I see it with Hosea Gear for the Highlanders - if your a finisher you better be on the wing when the ball heads that way - not trying to be productive in the midfield or a ruck. He also stopped backing himself to finish. Finally he kept on being put on the right wing - which he wasn't as good in big games there.

Good that he is enjoying his time there I suppose (I was referring to the rugby - I'm sure the place and people would be a great life style), but I've heard Bayonne fans booing him not so long ago. He's a professional rugby player and if the rugby he's playing is poor he'd be better off going somewhere else (I'd jump for joy if he made the slight move to Biarritz!). Like you mentioned - the share number of class players that just turn to custard there is appalling.

I blame the club's owner and atmosphere (cause it's most convenient I suppose). In terms of the players they've recruited - I'm not overly suprised with their result. Tialata is a decent enough scrummager - who played an amazing game for the baabaa's before heading over there, but he's always had the physicality of a kitten with hemophilia. Flavell and Lauaki are walking penalty machines with problems on and off the field. Heymans and Rokocoko though I think would have been playing some decent rugby had they been playing for somewhere like Clermont, Toulouse, Montellier etc, a team with a solid foundation and a professional enviroment. They didn't go from world class finishers to rubbish, overnight. Even when Rokocoko was criticized in 2010 he still managed to be the highest try scorer in SR with 9 tries...

Rumours of Osprey's Fotuali'i signing for Northampton have been kicking around for a few days and now this in L'Equipe http://www.lequipe.fr/Rugby/Actualites/La-piste-fotuali-i-s-eloigne/342408

Interesting to see he seems to have been lured to get more game time at 10. Great player for us though.

The Ospreys simply cannot afford to lose Fotuali'i at the minute.

The Ospreys have basically based their entire game plan and tactics revolving around Adam Jones and Kahn Fotuali'i this season. Every time Webb comes on, the side as a whole's performance dips very noticeably.

Just look at Ospreys vs Scarlets with Fotuali'i on the pitch compared to Ospreys vs Scarlets with him off it, or those dreadful first few matches of the season such as the loss to Glasgow where Webb started. No coincidence that it was with Webb starting that the Ospreys only just beat Zebre by a point last week as well, and they only scored a try once Kahn was on the field.

He's one of the best scrum halves, I don't know why he would want to move to 10 when he's an unknown quantity there and is so good at 9.
