Can I request for those that are coming by train to purchase your rail tickets to Parson Street train station, whether you use the ticket to or from Parson Street. Its the same price

This will push up the footfall at Parson Street, hoping that we can get Ashton Gate train station become a reality,or a step free access at Parson Street.

Can as many you as possible post this info on other rugby forums/message boards.

Thank you

Good intentions but new small railway stations cost between £50 plus million in capital costs before you look at all the extra disruptive closures etc. unless the council are part funding it footfall can't make too much difference.

I'd suggest speaking to the local councillors etc. to get discussions going with network rail.

I know what you saying but please don't knock the attempts by the friends of Parson Street to do something.

4,000 journeys were made in 2002/03
and in year 2022/2023 157,000 were made
That's taken 20 years to get to those numbers
lets all keep trying and can you please place the info on other rugby sites you think suitable.

Not trying to knock the attempt, trying to push you in the right way to get what you want.

I've worked on this exact situation elsewhere and it only moves when councils etc get involved. So if you want change that would be my advice, get lobbying is what I'd do.

I live in Bristol,we could have a one on one chat about railway issues if your interested.
I think DSLD is from Northampton, if memory serves correctly (which isn't a given, especially at this hour) - would have been good offer before the previous round.

That's interesting though, any chance you could share more? It would be actually wonderful to get the Ashton Gate station open again, particularly for elderly family members who live outside the city itself now.

I live in the midlands at the moment (north of Northampton). I missed the Bristol game this year as I went both the home and away fixture last year and didn't want to watch us lose again (which I kinda knew we would).

As for the stations issue. There are a couple of things and maybe a couple of things that might have gone on which you might not know about.

So when things like this are discussion Network Rail undertake a feasibility study, looking at can this even happen, high level costs etc. that's the first port of call. That may of happened at some point or may not and you wouldn't know unless you worked there.

But If that hasn't been done or ever looked at, that study would need to be commissioned (funded) and the process started by the council (usually) unless it's already on a funding proposal which the government and doing. You'd again need to speak to the council to find that out.

So I'd definitely get a local councillor involved, then also try and find someone in Network Rail, you need a stations RAM (asset manager) to sponsor the scheme. These things take years and if it's not on the governments transport plan it will need funding mostly by the local authority.

But there are many cases of this happening around the country, so it can happen. East west rail is a good example as are the stations being build by the Liverpool combined authority. Loads of other examples as well.

Hope that helps.
