Springboks vs Wallabies, July 24th 2010, Third Tri Nations Test

What a game! The commentators put it well around half time by saying how exciting the game was regardless of the lack in tries.

Adam Ashley Cooper - Wow.
James O'Connor - Played well, only 1 real mistake and that was under the high ball.
Rob Horne - A player that continues to impress me, he deserves more recognition
Matt Giteau - Great to see Giteau is starting to play like he used to (prior to western force days..) he seemed to have a bit of spark last night which was good
Drew Mitchell - Amazing player, i'm sure he made clear to the coaching staff that he deserves the spot.
Quade Cooper - A freak! Sometimes he was to talented for the players around him which resulted in loss of possesion due to some of the unbelievable stuff he pulled off, that yellow card was his only mistake of the night and he suffered for it.
Will Genia - I've never been so excited about a scrumhalf since george greagan, what a match.
Richard Brown - Great game, a player to watch.
David Pocock - A freak. Making that position his own, I was worried over the loss of george smith but this guy is amazing.
Rocky Elsom - Well you know, he's rocky elsom.. 'nuff said.
Nathan Sharpe - Him and dean mumm worked so well together tonight
Dean Mumm - ^
Salesi Ma'afu - Great presence on the field, when Fainga was man handled in one ruck and he showed up.. the springboks stopped contesting and just let it go.
Saia Fainga - Good player, little unsure why he was on over stephen moore but he had a good game.
Benn Robinson - I don't think he played all that well tonight, however great to see him back. One of if not the best in the world at his position.

I'd comment on south africa but I don't know them on name basis, only by face. Best game i've seen the wallabies play in a while. Big improovement since versing ireland.

Summary of the match: Boks were crap. Nothing else to say. Dismal, worst performance i have ever seen. Wallabies were **** as well, and will get raped by NZ. We were just so bad, Aus didn't even have to try to beat us. Goodbye Springbok rugby, and thank you PdV. You are just awesome.

Congrats to the Wallabies yesterday...to be honest I didn't think they could do it. A good performance by them and a confidence booster for the upcoming game against the AB's. However there's still some work to be done. One aspect of the Wallabies play was Will Genia's inability to get that ball out faster at ruck times etc. He tended to delay ball distribution too long giving SA's defence time to regroup...there are times when a ball fired out quickly is a better option. Well! Poor old Bok's...a big slide from Tri Nations 09. I really thought that they could pull it off. Some of the Bok boys look like they're passed their "use by date" and it's perhaps time to bring in some young blood. With all the accusations and conspiracies going around these days I better throw my 20 cents worth in...I now wonder if there is a concerted effort to play poorly so that a certain coach's position becomes jeopadized??? Anyway I hope SARU keeps the current General till after the RWC...it will be advantageous to those teams playing SA in next years RWC.

How the hell did Cooper get 2 weeks after copping the 10 in the bin?. That should have been the end of it, bit blimmen harsh getting 2 weeks for that.

Once again a horrible performance by Mr. Pringles and his men. Jaque Fourie should definitely be left home next time. I've been saying this for weeks. That Barbie Girl isn't Bok-material!

Worst Tri-Nations I've seen in a long time from the Bok-side.

Wow, three matches, three suspencions. :S.

Boks need to sort their disipline out.

a yellow card inside the first 5 minutes of the game for the boks in each game too. also, four suspensions, if you count quade cooper...

I'm surprised at the two suspensions as well (especially Coopers) - i thought that because the cards were issued, then suspensions wouldn't be

Can't believe Burger is getting away with his little dig into Pococks eye

I feel like a French football supporter right now.

A dumb ass coach (PdV vs. Domenech)
3 horrible matches
Veteran players who arent good enough anymore (Smit vs. Henry)
Some of the best players not being called up (Steyn vs. Benzema)

And I can go on and on. The similarities are shocking!

There are too many players who are either not good enough or over the hill.

I agree 100%. Yes, Pocock looked aggresive, but Burger has been warned and banned before for this kind of stuff, and in honesty a 40 week ban (minimum) should have been issued.

I thought the citing commissioner would be better :(

So could I - both are cheats/dirty players! (Henry handball vs. [watch all 2009/2010 springbok games]) :p

;)

ANY player who gets a Yellow or Red card for Foul Play (Law 10.4) will be suspended (if found guilty) for a period depending on a number of factors including the seriousness of the event and previous form.

The low-end entry level suspension for a Dangerous Tackle in which the tackled player is lifted and turned beyond horizontal and then dropped is two weeks. He got the minimum and he's lucky. I would have given him four. Tipping players up is very, very dangerous.

If you haven't seen this before, download it and have a read. The iRB means to stamp out Dangerous lifting/tipping tackles...

IRB said:
Unfortunately these types of tackles are still being made and the purpose of this
memorandum is to emphasize that they must be dealt with severely by referees and all
those involved in the off-field disciplinary process.

How is Schalk Burger not being cited for his eye gouge! I saw it as a spectator of the game on television, surely the citing officer can see it????

wow, missed some bits and pieces, if the IRB banned those two player why they didn't ban Burger?

Isn't there a 48hr period where you can be cited after a match?
Could be that they're trying to work out what the ban should be, or something along those lines.

Yeah I thought Burger needed to be punished as well with a game suspension or a yellow card. The only reason why I feel he shouldve got a one match ban was because hes done it before. Some of yous might beg to differ and would probably feel he shouldve got a hard punishment. Luckily for Burger the victims eye wasnt harmed (as far as I know) because it might have been a ban for life and an ugly day for international rugby.

Good game from both teams but more so the Wallabies, enjoyed it throughout. Standout players for me were Australians Giteau, Elsom, Mitchell, Genia and Pocock. Rossouw, Burger and Fourie for the boks.

Not sure that Burger's action was an eye-poke. I didn't see it live and only picked it up on replay, where I thought it looked like a push in the face. However, given that he has previous, I am surprised it was not looked at more closely.

Perhaps there was no supporting evidence from the "victim".

One thing if for sure though, and that is if he was cited and found guilty, he'd be getting a lot more than a one match ban. He got Six weeks last time so we'd be talking double figures like 12 - 18 weeks
