[RWC2023] Australia vs Fiji (17/09/2023)

Infact I'm thinking of putting a bet on Fiji making the semis
I'd wait until you get an injury update on their starting scrum half. If they don't have a halfway decent kicker then Georgia might beat them.

My head hurts, but if Fiji get 2x winning BPs are they guaranteed being at least joint second on points? That missed kick at the final whistle could be huge, as could Wales's late BP against Portugal. Did I mention I love the introduction of BPs. :p

Bit like England and Wales, I imagine Eddie will get a free pass on this world cup due to how quickly he was appointed.

I can see Wales and Fiji getting through at the moment, but who knows.

Biggest issue I saw with Fiji was the attack. They work very hard, but struggled to put points up.

Big loss for Fiji was losing Caleb Muntz before the tournament started, without a good goalkicker, it's the one thing holding them back (I know they won, but the missed penalties could prove vital)

Aus wasn't that bad. Nothing they cant fix, quite easily. I mean, all they need to do is field 14 players without that experiment they're performing at 10 and they should have a fair shot at making it to the semis.

Considering the quarter finals will be against either England or Argentina I'd say anyone from our group has a fair shot of making it to the semis.

Hasn't he already said he's quitting after this and going back to Japan?

What a game. In all honesty Fiji were probably 25+ points better than Aus today! They were unlucky not to score 2 try's in the first half with Pearce calling them back twice when he shouldn't have + a wrongfully awarded try to Aus.

I thought Fiji were excellent in the first half, but there was a real step down when their 9 and Matevesi went off with their kicking game + lineout falling to pieces a little.

Fiji also need to do the simple things better in attack i.e. drawing and passing. There were loads of opportunities wasted by floating long missed passes out to the wing which just allowed Aus to drift and snuff out the threat.

This group could be really interesting!

If Japan could actually stop knocking on they may be into something here

Matt Dawson is predicting a Wales win against Australia. So Australia will definitely win now!

ah ok, fair enough.
Even if the HC gig gets away from him I believe he's some sort of ambassador* for the 2027 WC

*yeah possibly a poor choice of word, but blame Rugby Australia for that, not me
