RWC: All Blacks - Canada (02-10-2011, 15:30)

Why does Mills get the right to play fullback, he's the number two put him on the wing if you have to.

Its pretty simple, dagg is better on the wing than mils is and that way round (dagg at 14 and mills at 15) is deemed stronger than dagg at 15 and mills at 14

Obviously people are going to complain that they rotate too many players, they do it every game.
I don't mind rotating for one game, but to rotate every game is plain stupid.
Great teams are teams that play together consistently, you can pretty much go through any sport and its the same.
This team has many great individuals, but is it truly a great team yet? and who is in the top team?

Australian comparison is pointless, they could just as easily get injured in training. As has happened supposedly in this world cup.
South Africa have been consistent in selection and it hasn't harmed them, they actually seem to be thriving at the moment.

Yes but NZ not fielding the same team every game hasn't harmed them either, so that last point of yours is rather moot.

I think too much is being made of the whole "rotation" thing, if you can even call it that. Outside injury forced changes there is only one or two a game and the important thing is combinations have been built and key players like McCaw & Carter have had lots of game time. the forward pack has pretty much been at full strength every game.

I look at Nonu, right now he would benefit more from a weeks rest than another 80min of rugby this weekend. The nonu/Smith combination is hardly going to improve or get worse depending on selections this weekend. They have played side by side more than any other midfield combo for the AB's. Kind of a shame we can't run the same back three again but kahui and Jane are both injured - not much you can do about that.

It did last time!!! Did you forget? I sure haven't

I actually think s small amount of rotation is alright but wholesale changes every game doesn't help our combination's.

I still don't think us losing was anything to do with the rotation of players - not one player in that team performed particularly badly in that game. Looking at it, I'd say the two main causes of the loss were:
1) The referee
2) Our two first fives getting injured

If we were to have the game again, I'd quite happily have the same team.

there is also a huge difference "rotating" players in the last round of the group phase when you have already made it to the next stage and "rotating" players in a knockout match against a top team

Personally i had no problem with rotating and the fabeled 2 x first VX's...it was just done poorly

Canada names side for All Blacks:

1. Hubert Buydens
2. Pat Riordan (captain)
3. Jason Marshall
4. Jebb Sinclair
5. Jamie Cudmore
6. Adam Kleeberger
7. Chauncey O'Toole
8. Aaron Carpenter
9. Ed Fairhurst
10. Ander Monro (vice captain)
11. Phil Mackenzie
12. Ryan Smith
13. DTH van der Merwe
14. Conor Trainor
15. Matt Evans

Reserves
16. Ryan Hamilton
17. Scott Franklin
18. Andrew Tiedemann
19. Tyler Hotson
20. Nanyak Dala
21. Sean White
22. Nathan Hirayama

Decent side, just a bit disappointed that Paris wasn't given a shot. Hopefully Monro is good to go with the boot!

Apparently Pritchard was too injured to play other than that this is a strong Canadian side. Good for Tiedemann getting into action.

Hopefully Tiedemann acquits himself well. Between him, Marshall, Buydens, and Hamilton, our front row looks good going forward. Back row is solid through the next world cup too. Just need a few tall locks, we're lacking in the height department.

Something the Little Guy knows firsthand :D It's amazing how the scrum turned itself around from how poor it looked in November to holding it's own come the RWC. I'm guessing Monro will have more time to practice goal kicking this week and will be able to mentally prepare, I'm thinking Hirayama will be the only fallback in this department as both Pritch and Hearn are out of the lineup. Interesting to see Dala back in I'm guessing Crowley(rightly) beleives speed will be an asset late in the game to keep the AB's honest. Hotson has looked great all RWC coming off the bench and White looked good last week lets hope they can keep that going for this tough matchup.

Really though, if where down big and Monro is having a bad kicking game, please give it to Cudmore. I just want to see how it goes as it would be comedic gold. I'm sure he'd find a way to binned for kicking.

What you mean "if we're down"

I want to see our beautiful demigod His Edness handle the duties.

I've seen him kick for his club UBCOB and he does a fair enough job.

I think he might actually have a conversion or two in his Canadian career, I'll have to check on that though, I'm guessing he is legitmately the third string kicker in this game behind Monro and Hirayama.

Edit: His Edness does indeed have 4 conversions and 6 penalties for Canada.

I got the feeling that the All Blacks will win this one ... the good news is that the game, the supporting of the teams, and the result, won't result in a divorce in the Shaggy household :D

... although I will say that my lovely wife was a little sad backing the All Blacks over Canada, in the picking comp that we are in

all black selection

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: back three is da bomb but kahui is better than guilfield

McCaw has just been ruled out of the match with a sore foot. His persistent injury problems must be becoming quite a worry for the AB's. Vito comes straight into the starting lineup in the 7 jersey, while Dan Carter will captain the AB's for the first time.
