RWC: Fiji - Namibia (10-09-2011, 15:30)

I'm from New Zealand and I like to watch drop goals.

Not too many of them, but the frequency at which they're used in modern rugby union feels about right to me. I wouldn't want to see them go away nor would I want too many of them. It's just right the way it is.

I shouldn't have been too generalized with my comment, I know Shaggy is another NZ poster who feels the drop goal value is about where it should be. Is it just me or is Namibia improving big time, great try there,we have had three great games this RWC so far.

Namibia is weaker and weaker, they just don't deserve their place in the competition. Fiji will look to beat his record winning margin (124-4) to scare the other three contenders for the quarter-finals.

This is looking very unlikely....

A fourth try for Vereniki Goneva! Incredible stuff. Tarbes will be happy to have him back when the RWC is over.

Fiji need to bring on Vulivuli and Qera from the bench

Veikoso has had another shocking game at lineout time

Goneva has been brilliant

Already four tries by Goneva. Awesome game altho lots of handling errors and a lack of speed

Remember Habana got 4 tries against Samoa?

Goneva for top try scorer for the tourney?

Really good match for the neutral - Namibia looking much better after the break

Lol, big match of the day was supposed to be Agies vs England, but if it provides half the entertainment as the games so far today we would already be in for a treat.

2nd half of Tonga vs. NZ was a good contest as well!!! Could we be heading to the best RWC of all time???

Should be a try...maybe not LOL

There is only one loser at this game.....the kiwi fans who failed to buy tickets for the empty upper corners of the stands.

Fiji is officially the most clumsiest team in the world :(

Many of these Namibian backs our young as well, only one player over 30, with one being 25, otherwise they are 23 and under

I don't find drop goals boring at all, just think it's a clever option to keep the points ticking over when you can't quite break the defence down. Not a big fan of the 1 point DG in League. Feel it makes them almost a bit pointless to do.
Ah Fiji's scrum is not good at all is it? Never rated Manu as a scrummager during his time at the Scarlets. Will be interesting to see it vs Wales scrum, especially since both Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones are likely to be playing!

Is it just me though, or has Nalaga not had the ball at all?

The problem is that some teams, that shall remain nameless, don't even attempt to break down the defence and just fire off drop goals at every oppotunity. I wouldn't have that bigger problem with it if was a different story but generally it's not.

@little guy, you never heard of the greatest flyhalf in the world, Dan Carter?

Carter will probably hit alot more drop goals than we're used to. Difference is that we'll attempt to score tries first and foremost, followed by penalties and then use the drop goal. Seems some teams do the opposite, which just isn't rugby no matter what anyone says. I don't pay outrageous prices for tickets and sky tv just to watch teams kick the ball dammit.

Dam, the Western Force have recruited the wrong Fijian winger ;)

for Fiji, they can only improve, i remember the 2007 world cup i was even more frustrated as Fiji only just beat Japan by 4 points in their opening game and should have lost to Canada if it wasn't for the video ref. So hopefully history repeats itself and Fiji dramatically improve and make it to the QF's? Even in 2003 Fiji only beat USA by 1 point, so this is what i expected, Fiji to make too many nervous mistakes on their first game, but i'm happy for the win and the 5 points.

Veikoso had another shocker at line out time with his throws, which is a shame, but i guess Koto is our number one hooker now. Bai also had a few bad kicks which was a disappointment for his standards, first five Luveniyali had a decent game in terms of his kicking.

So you would have rather had this game end in a total blowout win for Fiji, rather than see Kotze keep Namibia close and give us a much more exciting 2nd half? Obviously I have heard of Carter, and if he wants to go for tries than so be it, if NZ has some sort of moral high ground about kicking drop goals good for them, why should the rest of the world adjust to their style of play? Would kiwi fans be upset if the rest of the world wanted to go back to four point tries just because the AB's were scoring a bunch of them?
