RWC: Springboks - Namibia (22-09-2011, 20:00)

Okay... Let's hear it...

Hougaard, de Jongh, Aplon, F. Steyn... Those were the sparks today... The young guns showing what they can do! I know it's only Namibia but scoring 12 tries is good no matter what at a World Cup.

What I like the most is that we kept Namibia from scoring a single point... Considering their rucking abilities and drop-goal specialist Kotze (Yes, he does this for JHB Uni as well) it's amazing we kept them from scoring for the entire 80 minutes.

Habana finally over that big hurdle of surpassing Joost. Let's see what this does for his confidence.

I am not confident enough about beating Australia but we have seen that we have the depth on the bench and the ability to change our game-plan with the young guns and their fresh style of play.

Would South Africa like a medal for beating a Tier 2 nation after the beating they've received from 2 previous matches in an unfair condensed Rugby World cup tournament? You want credit for that? Fine.

What 2 games are you talking about? The one where we beat Wales by scoring 2 tries to 1? Or the one where we manage to beat Fiji 49-3 with only 3 points form a penalty kick conceded?

Man, the All Blacks played against Japan and conceded a try so if you want to **** at something, do it at that performance (Which I still think was pretty solid).

Oh i see you are that same tosser that said we play **** rugby. Clearly you have something against SA. Anyway, not going to bother arguing with you, as you clearly know better.
You're the little baby in Bok pajamas that cried over all the injustices done to the springboks not even considering what other teams had to go through. Also, if you're going to paraphrase you should at least point out that I gave full recognition to the fact the Springboks are TWO time world champions.

Really? I think you guys are firm favourites in the probable quarter final clash with oz.
Actually I think you're probably favourites against everyone barring the all blacks (and if you get a semifinal upset could be on the way to a third ***le).

Boks should be disappointed. They should have put 100+ in that game. Much like the AB's vs Japan it was a B+ training run.

It was one of those games where if you score low or high you get critisized, South Africa was always going to win by a large margin but it is easy to lose structure as NZ did against Tonga in the second half. SA kept to their structures and will again take a lot of confidence from this big win. I can gurantee you that Wales won't put 87 points past Namibia and that will prove how well the Springboks played! They played bloody well considering Namibia have players of top quality. Some are playing in the Enlgish League for Saracens, some are playing in the South African Rugby Leagues. They know our tactics and our players. Bismarck, JP Pieterson, Jannie Du Plessis were rested, Brussouw was benched, Matfield was precautionally rested after recovering from injury.

WELL DONE BOKKE!!!!!!

Nobody is overjoyed; this was always going to be a win and most posters here do see the things we have to work on. Overjoyedand wanting a medal as you put it? No but certainly not dissapointed like you said we should be. What relevance does this game have? What a silly question. Should we not have played it? The relevance is getting some players a go (Aplon, Hougaard at 9, Alberts, De Jongh, Pienaar, Ralepelle, Lambie), getting 5 points and getting time together.I brought up Samoa as we face you guys next and this game has bearing as it is the preperation and your post suggested we got nothing out of this game looking forwards (toward Samoa).
Apologies. Aplon, Hougaard, De Jongh, PIenar are classy individuals. I'm not so sure about Ralepelle. My thoughts are that the Players themselves would disappointed with the outcome. On reflection, not so much the scoring but the fact that they didn't fully impose themselves on a plucky Namibian side. Work permittIng I'll be attending the Game in Albany. Here's a tip for Samoa vs South Africa. If Tasesa Lavea plays at all. South Africa by 20+

I hear you, don't waste your time with UilamOsa. He seems to be a DIE HARD anti SPRINGBOK supporter.

"Would Sa like a medal for beating a tier 2 nation (that's Namibia) after the beating they've received from the last two games in an unfair schedule..."The Team: NamibiaThe Two Games: Namibia vs Fiji. Namibia vs Samoa.Unfair Schedule: see RWC timetableIm writing this off my phone therefore Grammar not a priority but if you want I can rewrite that whole sentence?

Whatever you say.

Interesting to note Samoa only beat Namibia 49-12!

If I were SA, I would wait to see what happens in the NZ vs. France game. If NZ win, rest all the top Springbok players for the Samoa game, hope that they can beat our B team and off we go to the other section.

Terrible, but at least we have a better chance of making the Finals that route.

At the end of the day SA will not do that, they will back themselves to beat OZ & NZ. This is going to be bloody tough and odds aren't great. If the Springboks do do that it will be like the 1995 RWC where they had to beat both OZ and NZ to win the CUP!

I really don't get how people keep thinking the Ireland game will be an easier match for us.

They beat Australia, which tells me that at the moment they're playing better rugby than Australia, thus they would likely be the more difficult opposition :/
fact of the matter is that if you end up first in your pool, you're most likely the best team out of that pool, end of. I don't get why this doesn't count with regards to Australia and Ireland.

I think people seem to forget what a tough nugget Ireland have been for the Springboks over the past few years.

:D Lets reverse that quote. The Kiwi's beating us should rather be called an upset. We are afterall the World Champs

Yeah, i agree they didn't impose themselves as such. I think though that it might have part of the plan ITO injuries and such; avoiding contact to a large degree in open play and at the breakdown.

It would ruin our mental state to 'throw' a match IMO. Not to be thought of. And I agree that both routes to the final have their pitfalls. Getting up to beat both of AUS and NZ and then gather up for a final is a BIG ask but if you can't go all the way through ALL opponents then we don't deserve it in any case IMO. Also not sure Ireland would be much easier than Aus; in fact despite our woeful record against Aus these last 2 years I think they aren't on top of their game ATM. We don't have the best record recently against Ireland as well TBH so I'd rather face the team who are a bit off it (Aus).

conceding a single point is brilliant... heck, NZ couldn't even achieve that vs Japan.

Japan is ranked 13th and has a professional tournament with many foreign players, Namibia is ranked 19th and just poor. Japan also looked like beating France at one point.

All this talk about margins and who beat who by 70 points and what not. None of that actually matters. The most important thing to note, is that the Boks went back to their structure when the game got too loose, and played good rugby. Bench players got a run and scored some tries that will boost their confidence a little. It's more about getting the practise drills right in a "non-practise" environment. Who cares if NZ leaked a try against Japan, or we beat Fiji 49-3 and Namibia 87-0? It's all irrelevant. We just need to prepare for our next game. Simples.

You do realize that was a Japanese second string team that played NZ?

Wrong. I just have a higher expectation of the current World Champs.

With the talent they have on Tap - they should have cruised through this pool and dominated every area of the match.

And I'm expecting them to beat the Aussies come the finals.

Chrisander Botha should teach the Namibia #10 how not to chicken out of a tackle. Botha put his body on the line to stop Mtawarira and indeed managed to, in what has been IMO the tackle of the tournament so far. On the other hand, Kotze (about whom I had heard good things) decided it was enough to pretend to make a tackle attempt on Hougaard. That's a ****ing disgrace to this sport.

Won big money on this game. Needed 67+ points out of the boks, was very scared at half time when they had only scored 31 points... Was even more scared when the bench came on, I thought the starters are already sucking, what much more can these guys do, then BOOM they started running amok (maybe a combination of tired namibians?)...

Who is the hooker that came on for the boks, the black guy? He is a BEAST!!! Was running lines, bumping people, nice lineouts, good work rate!
