RWC: All Blacks - Canada (02-10-2011, 15:30)

I would like to ask our Canadian fans here, what are your hopes and expectations from the match?

If someone makes a Dan Carter intercept like Mike Pyke did 3 years ago I'm sure that'll make the whole stadium erupt :)

I'd like our guys to put up a well spirited fight and enjoy themselves. They've said many times that they're just happy to be there to have the chance to play against these teams and I hope that attitude carries into this game. NZ will likely run away with it but it'll be good for the guys to get the experience of playing the world #1s. Hopefully we'll get a few tries in too.

For specific players, I'm very excited to see how effective our back row is against the All Blacks and also how DTH holds himself in the centre against a top tier team.

Richie McCaw out with a sore foot, come on now All Blacks aint not foot injury happening with Richie McCaw. Dan Carter taking over captaincy duties but not sure whos gonna take over McCaws starting 7 role.

Victor Vito has been named as his replacement.

I'm not too keen on Dan Carter as captain. His game will drop if he has to start worrying about everyone else. I'd prefer someone like Read or Kaino.

I'm hoping we can perform about as well as Tonga did vs. the AB's. Compete physically, make NZ work for their tries and perhaps score one or two ourselves, I expect us to do allright for about 40-60 minutes but I sense a falling off after that, hopefully the bench can hold it together. Losing Pritchard is a big blow for goal kicking and defense, hopefully Evans and Trainor fill in well. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a cheeky drop goal if Canada gets in the opposition half in early in the game as I think the boys would take something from being the first team to have a lead over NZ.

I also think Canada will position Monro further out to the wing than a #10 normally usually is in the defensive scheme, Ryan Smith will probably play further inside as he is larger but also much slower than Monro.

Will be going to this match. I'll be supporting the All Blacks but I hope Canada have a cracker. Chance of a life time to see Ed Fairhurst play live!

This is the magic that His Edness created for me live this summer!!!

My hope is that we can put two tries on the board and keep NZ to less than 60. Add to that a halftime differential of less than 15 and we will have done as much as I think is possible. The short turn around is going to be brutal. I'm not making excuses, a long turn around wouldn't change the result at all, but it will have an impact on the score line. I'm very interested to see how the scrum goes this will be the biggest challenge to date and one of the biggest improvements in this team over the last 4 years has been the scrum. Hoping O'toole has a better game also. I don't think he has asserted himself as effectively as he could or should have. I'm incredibly worried about our midfield defense. SBW running at them has me crapping hockey pucks, I can't imagine what our backline is feeling right now. If things start to get ugly there watch for Nanyak Dala in the centres. He has played there and he has the gas to back it up.. At the end of the day, I just hope we can walk off the field, bloodied and bruised but with our dignity intact. It has been a decent world cup and it would be awesome to finish it with some style.

edit: The one battle I'm really looking forward to is Kleeberger/Kaino. #fearthebeard LOL

Hearing news coming in from 3news representatives that after being announced captain after McCaw pulled out from the game, Carter is now looking like he's gonna miss tomorrow's game. More details to come on the news tonight at 6.

Yay, Carter and McCaw are out, that possibly knocks off 10 points from the total.
I hope.

I think this game will be a great learning experience for Canada, and if it was possible, I would be happy if Canada got destroyed vs ABs at least once a year. Can't better until you play better teams.

Really though, 60-70 for ABs and I will cheer like a little girl if we score a try. Especially is DTH or Phil MacKenzie pull off something nice looking.
I just hope that they go out there and learn and enjoy this game. Yes, enjoy a 60-70 point thrashing against the best in world

I'm hoping it will be a little closer I'm going to say 45-55 point margin.

I'm worried about the Ryan Smith - SBW match-up as well. Smith hasn't really shown the power to break tackles and he's been a bit all over the place when making those essential tackles on defense. I'd love to see Trainor in the centre with DTH. They both have such power and pace that they could really cause trouble in breaking the line and using quick off-loads to frazzle the ABs.

So Canada need to win by 50 to qualify for the QF? Let me find my rose-tinted glasses......

CANADA TO WIN BY 50!

Monro will probably be on the outside channel while Smith will be moved further in to compensate for his lack of speed.

Trainor and DTH would be a dream and I believe the future will be 12 Trainor, 13 Van der Merwe 14 Mackenzie 15 Evans. Canada can have a very dangerous backline as the Tonga and Japan games showed, but Canada is going to have to change their outlook on attacking. We should using the forwards to set up the attack, not endlessly recycling the ball. What Canada really needs to find is a new flyhalf. Nothing against Monro, but this is most likely his last world cup. Canada needs to find another elite goalkicker. Missed kicks cost us against France and Japan (reasons for those, but Pritchard also probably won;t be back.) We produced Gareth Rees and Jared Barker, both were excellent kickers, we just have to find another. We have a good attacking back line that can play defense, we have the loose forwards to keep us in games, we just need that kicker.
Trainor is not the one I'm worried about in this game as he's used to playing the big boys. He dominated bigger 17-18s year olds as a skinny 15 year old. Guys I'm worried about are Smith, Evans and Hiriyama if he gets in. I like Smith, he's played well recently especially against France but SBW will eat him alive. Evans is going to be tested with a lot of high ball and this will be a trial by fire, it'll be a learning experience. Hiriyama.... he's always seen the field well and in my experience, he's never shyed away from anything, but sometimes, especially during breakdowns, he get lost. It's normally the fault of the team for leaving the flyhalf somehow covering a 3v1 but Hiriyama will run around between all 3 of them and not make a tackle.

I hope it's a very low score but I'm also keeping in mind that the subs are most likely coming on early being last game of a good world cup run.
