Aviva Premiership - Round 20

Hartley was very good today. I know it is apparently impossible to be objective about him on here for some of you but as AH said he was very good , 2nd half was brilliant.

Nearly gave me a heart attack but great win.

We got some big calls at the end to close out game though. Last two penalties weren't at all.

Errrr why is long bottom still on the field? He was out cold

Because there was no concussive event - it was what is called a "vasovagal syncope", or a "faint".

I've passed out in the same way from squatting several times before - it's from a lack of blood getting to the brain.

As far as I'm aware a momentary loss (as Longbottom had) isn't that hazardous, the most dangerous thing about them is the potential to hit your head when you fall - I can't say I'm an expert though.

Because disagreeing with you as to a player's ability is lacking objectivity

Whole forum has its favourites and its villains decided as a group. Silence on how average Itoje was today as he is golden boy, silence on Goode doing very well as he has been decided as awful, likewise with Hartley.

Or, you know, whole bunches of us don't watch every game and therefore don't comment on every game?

Not to mention AP form is a very loose guide to international ability and potential...

1 swallow doesn't make a summer. Hartley wasn't even that great, itoje wasn't that bad.

Sarries lost two of their back row in the space of 10 minutes, meaning Itoje was playing at 8 at one stage- he was still good I thought. We know that Goode is a good club player- this is not disputed.
I don't see how Hartley having one average to good game, somehow negates the last year of average-bad games. They rolled over pretty easy in Clermont and then against the Chiefs, and now spring to life against Sarries- who understandably looked tired after playing in 3/4 brutal matches on consecutive weekends, were down to 14 for 10 mins and lost their best player at half time.
Definition of a flat track bully (same applies to Burrell), shame, because Lanky will probably feel vindicated in sticking by these two for the next year on the basis of a couple of games.

Itoje was smashed in 2nd half like whole of Sarries pack. Great prospect but no there yet. Hartley is England's 2, and has played and beat the best. Love when people bring up the 'down to 14 men' when the reason was a try saving offside tackle. Not like we did nothing until they had 14 men.

Corbi's form has started to worry me though. Waller should start next time out.

Oh yeah... he has countless dominant performances against SA and NZ to his name...

England's stock of hookers isn't exactly world class at the minute.

Decent/World Class hookers seem scarce on the ground right across the world to be fair.

i can't think of any particular 2's who are ahead of the others.

So you think Hartley, Youngs and Webber are of the same quality as BdP, Strauss and Moore?

Not that I disagree with your first point, in general...

Apart from the game when the ABs had Noro, when did Hartley beat the best?

edit: Sorry, including that game, as Hartley didn't actually play that one...

Pretty much yeah i think they aren't far off...... imho, BDP has gone so off the boil it's unreal he's now a libaility. Strauss is a good hooker but hot and cold and doesn't have the game changing impact someone like BdP had around 2009/10... i find it worrying that Moore could actually make a push for best hooker in the world.

Yeah, their current form wouldn't put them into the hall of fame... but I would take all of them in a heartbeat over Hartley when he can't throw to a very high standard, and Youngs when he can't hit a barn door.

Strauss & Moore are probably the most consistent at teh moment, dont' do much wrong but don't bring anything extra.... i'd rather have Youngs destructive ball carrying over all of them - the darts can be worked on, but Youngs just reads a game like a NZ 2 and that's difficult to teach at this stage.

Managed to catch up on the London Irish vs Burgess & others. Some nice play from Bath with some great vision for wide passes to Rokoduguni that unfortunately didn't quite work. Ford has great attacking form, really keeps defenses off balance. Watson, my god that guy has some motor on him. I'd pip him to potentially be a replacement for Brown. Rokoduguni not back to the blistering form he had at the start of the year but a huge improvement. Burgess did well but people constantly talking about him and micro-analysing everything he does is getting tiresome. The commentators act like the entire team strategy revolves around Burgess. Banahan had another solid game.

The England prospects in Bath all seem to be on good form at the moment (those that aren't injured) and it looks like Bath have a good chance of competiting for the ***le if they maintain their current form.

Youngs couldn't throw a party, and Hartley has outplayed Moore in the past. When we beat them handily in 2010 it was one of his best international caps. Youngs carrying is excellent for sure, but he needs to improve his set piece.

Our hookers at the moment are very worrying.
Hartley at the moment can't throw and his work around the park is a joke, haven't watched the game against us so no idea how he performed.
Youngs throwing again is a massive problem, his work in the loose is very handy though.
George is an alright thrower but can have off games (he's only 24 though so not that rare with young hookers) no real outstanding attributes apart from his defence.
Webber was great in NZ but now Batty is looking like a better hooker than him now.
Yeandle could be a possibility.
