[2013 TRC] New Zealand vs. Australia in Wellington (24/08/2013)

AAaaaaaaghhhh. You really think he needs to apologise now after all this time?? Unbelievable! Get some perspective. Have you ever heard of the word overkill? Why couldnt the NZ crowd and public let him know they didnt like it for a week or two and then just drop it.

Now, the only people who are looking like knobs over this are Kiwi crowds. Just embarrassing themselves and giving the world the impression they are narrow minded unforgiving red necks.

Thing is if cooper was actually any good he'd be able to shut the crowd up himself. He needs to put in a performance that isnt ***** then he wont get treated like it.

Can't disagree with that one!!

2. Your second point is irrelevant. The number of times Australia were off their feet at the breakdown, particularly in the first half was amazing. I also loved Scott Fardy standing up at the breakdown on our five metre line - turning his back offside to try and create gaps for his players, and then we get penalised. Australia were giving away more penalties in the game - so surely they are the ones cheating and taking liberties? I'm sorry but you do come off as a sore loser.

I think it's fairly clear from a neutral perspective that NZ were willing to systematically break the laws once inside their own 10 metre line.
Even Fitzpatrick (on our local coverage) said he thought there should have been cards against them, particularly for Aaron Smith not releasing.

If they don't get pinged for it though... why would they stop?

I am still confused about the Moore try, Peyper just seemed to ignore the fact that he grounded it... it wasn't obscured and he was right next to it.

I remember saying to Nonu, who was not playing, in the stands when England drew with the AB's at Twickers that England were the world champs but AB's were the world champion cheats..............he did not like it!!

Nothing changes...........Leicester did it for years and got away with it and so have AB's but you also have to be pretty damn good as well!!

That might be true but are you seriously saying that until he shuts them up himself with a good performance it is perfectly fine for the kiwis to behave like that. Sorry but he shouldn't have to do anything to shut them up after all this time. The behaviour actually hurts NZ - not Cooper or Australia. I should probably stop objecting and let them behave like knobs - in long run people will just think all kiwis are knobs. NOt the case but if you want to advertise yourselves like that then go ahead.

Aussies complaining about shenanigans on the deck..

I don't even have an appropriate reaction handy.

Sorry, but NZ are not unique in systematically breaking laws on defence, ALL Teams do it, without exception. Also, "not releasing" against Aaron Smith was highly debatable IMO. I reckon he did release, it just wasn't visible from where Peyper was.

Try having a look at what the Wallabies did in this match, and you'll see that there are two things that stand out.

1. TAKING SPACE
There always seem to be Gold jerseys taking up space on the Black side of the tackle. They make sure that they get themselves onto the Black side of the ball carrier before going to ground, then make no real effort to roll away. When they do make the effort, they always make sure they get in the way of the acting halfback

2. OFFSIDE PILLARS AND PROTECTING THE HALFBACK
Michael Hooper spends a lot of the match, especially around the ruck, standing offside, and for some reason, he appears to be invisible to the referee.
On attack, he stands offside, right in front of whichever side Genia is going to kick from. You even see Genia calling him in to that position, and NZ have caught on to this, when they see Genia calling him into the offide position, one of them will yell "Box! Box!" because they see what is coming.
On defence, Hooper is always at least a metre ahead of the HMF, waiting for the ball to come out. The referee will often say "ball is out" and Hooper swoops on it from that offside position

I am still confused about the Moore try, Peyper just seemed to ignore the fact that he grounded it... it wasn't obscured and he was right next to it.

I thought it was what is incorrectly referred to as a "double movement". The ball was grounded short when he was tackled, then he tried to reach out as he is entitled to do, but still came up short, then he had a third go as he tried to roll the ball onto the line. Maybe he could even have lost it forward when he tried to roll it onto the ground. That is why it came back to a Gold PK for Black offside.

Haha.

That's the thing. In my opinion I agree that the All Blacks were likely giving away penalties near their line - and it probably should have resulted in a yellow card. However it didn't - which is by no means the fault of the All Blacks. The Wallabies gave away penalties as well - they just didn't choose thier moments at all efficiently.

Woke up and caught the last bit of the game (from when Australia scored the try) - enjoyed the commentaries afterwards, and Tony's cap. :)

I know teams are willing to give away penalties to stop tries, but I've rarely seen in done so often, so far outside of the 22.
Regardless of whether Hooper/Australia should have been pinged, Peyper seemed to be content to just give penalties in the 22.
I think pretty much every other elite ref would have at least given team warnings or cards.

From what I saw he only attempted to ground the ball once and he was successful in doing so.

Every team illegally shuts down attack inside their own 22, the AB's (at least today) get/got away with it.

Thought Tom Taylor had a fantastic debut, handled the pressure well, managed the backline effectively and his kicking was decent as well. If he's NZ's 4th option than by god we all have to be nervous!!! Really thought NZ could have put the hammer down on OZ a little more than the scoreline suggested(though the intercept try was a factor in this).

I love Aaron Smith, what a sparkplug he is, part of a welcome trend of smaller scrum halves getting looks at test level which is fantastic for the game. With Smith(NZ), Mack(Canada), Yanyushkin(Russia) and Tanaka(Japan) there are four small players off the top of my head who have consistently impressed at a high level, I love seeing SH used as a position which creates attacking oppourtunities, and not just a go between for the forwards and FH.

Great game! Am I the only one keen to see nonu start to be filtered out of the starting jumper?

I actually mostly agree with you however I think your being a little harsh saying that the nation needs to grow up. I agree with you on both those points about unsporting-ness the penalties were always conceded in their own 22 purposefully they should have had at least one yellow for that. The only way that NZ crowds will stop booing Cooper is if McCaw comes out against it as he is the one who instigated (long term) in the first place.

I think you are being a little one eyed here don't you?
The common factor in this game was that as soon as either side got within sight of the goal line the other side gave away a penalty, it doesn't take a great level of intellect to realise that it is a tactic employed by both teams.

As for Cooper well he made his bed I wouldn't boo him personally because I don't think he is worth the effort but I really don't care that others do.

Nonu I think it is time he took a contract in Japan.

What happened to "Kapa o Pango? Was supposed to do against strong teams
