I think it's fairly clear from a neutral perspective that NZ were willing to systematically break the laws once inside their own 10 metre line.
Even Fitzpatrick (on our local coverage) said he thought there should have been cards against them, particularly for Aaron Smith not releasing.
If they don't get pinged for it though... why would they stop?
Sorry, but NZ are not unique in systematically breaking laws on defence, ALL Teams do it, without exception. Also, "not releasing" against Aaron Smith was highly debatable IMO. I reckon he did release, it just wasn't visible from where Peyper was.
Try having a look at what the Wallabies did in this match, and you'll see that there are two things that stand out.
1. TAKING SPACE
There always seem to be Gold jerseys taking up space on the Black side of the tackle. They make sure that they get themselves onto the Black side of the ball carrier before going to ground, then make no real effort to roll away. When they do make the effort, they always make sure they get in the way of the acting halfback
2. OFFSIDE PILLARS AND PROTECTING THE HALFBACK
Michael Hooper spends a lot of the match, especially around the ruck, standing offside, and for some reason, he appears to be invisible to the referee.
On attack, he stands offside, right in front of whichever side Genia is going to kick from. You even see Genia calling him in to that position, and NZ have caught on to this, when they see Genia calling him into the offide position, one of them will yell "Box! Box!" because they see what is coming.
On defence, Hooper is always at least a metre ahead of the HMF, waiting for the ball to come out. The referee will often say "ball is out" and Hooper swoops on it from that offside position
I am still confused about the Moore try, Peyper just seemed to ignore the fact that he grounded it... it wasn't obscured and he was right next to it.
I thought it was what is incorrectly referred to as a "double movement". The ball was grounded short when he was tackled, then he tried to reach out as he is entitled to do, but still came up short, then he had a third go as he tried to roll the ball onto the line. Maybe he could even have lost it forward when he tried to roll it onto the ground. That is why it came back to a Gold PK for Black offside.
