[2013 TRC] New Zealand vs. Australia in Wellington (24/08/2013)

Don't think he will play before 2014 or Australia willl pick him before that cause of the problems surrounding his family history. Especially if you consider what happened in the 2011 WC

I'm not sure what you're referring too either...

This article ran just less than an hour ago confirming Speight is looking to play for Australia and that many people pick him to be selected for the November internationals - http://www.canberratimes.com.au/rug...ting-for-wallabies-chance-20130822-2seta.html

It may well be for some reason or another he doesn't the Wallabies this year, but it certainly looks likely.

I'm just saying, if Speight could play the game this Saturday, would be a major headache for ABs. He's a player to be feared, with Folau and JOC, Aussies would have a better chance.

Cheers

Eligible yes. Getting picked is another story.

This is a bit of a waste of time because I think you have dug your self a hole to China by now, however for what it is worth let me remind you of your original post.

In response to someone suggesting Speight would soon start for OZ once eligible you said:
he's fijian, has played most of his pro rugby career in NZ with waikato, even his dad is a fijian politician. Speight will have to turn prostitute and the ARU pimp for him to wear a wallaby jersey, and both will lose face.

Clearly you had no idea he is soon to be eligible, hence my post to you.

Shall we move on?

Tony Woodcock's 100th

pretty staggering really, dont know for sure but apart from him isn't summerville next with 60 odd?

For a prop? Yes, Greg Summerville has 66 test caps, with Craig Dowd next on 60 and Olo Bron on 56.

yeh, a HUNDRED caps, damn...AB are durable...maybe this is the last we see of 100-cap players though, as they'll all start moving to either France or Japan or wherever at some point in their careers starting from now ! : p

Anyways: AB by 17.

@nickdnz: does it concern you at all that at some point the All Blacks will probably lose Woodcock, Hore, McCaw, Carter, Nonu, Conrad Smith and possibly Read all in very quick succession probably. Those players have been there together for about a decade now and all been big parts of New Zealand's dominance (2009 aside) of world rugby since 2004.

Well, yes and no. The mindset is clearly to see how many of those players make it the 2015 Rugby World Cup - which I'm pretty confident that almost all of those players will. After that - well the All Blacks have started bringing in new guys at a very quick rate since 2012, so with any luck the replacements should be capable. Losing Daniel Carter in 2011 would have been unthinkable, now with Aaron Cruden everyone is pretty happy regardless of whether Carter is playing or not (and Barrett is very handy as well).

Of the players you mention - only Hore/Mealamu and Nonu/Conrad Smith don't have established replacements. Of the two hookers - well they're just not as impressive as they used to be and for that reason are already kind of replaceable (whether Hansen wants to or not). Dane Coles hasn't looked any worse than them currently and in fact I think offers a bit more. Read is still only 27 and will likely get more time as captain after 2015, so I don't see him going when the others do. The midfied is a concern, basically because we have some great prospect that just aren't ready like Saili and to a lesser extent Emery - but hopefully by 2015 they should be ready.

I think you are not seeing it clearly.
Here we have Australia nd NZ who do not want to have ties with Fiji due to the military rule and ban anyone who have ties to the military.
On the other hand Australia go field a player who's part was part of the coup and mixed up with politics. The Fijian government and propaganda machine will have a field day........

Give it up sifplay!

You've gone from Speight's not eligible (shot down), to Speight wont play for OZ (in all likelihood soon to beshot down again), and now you are claiming Henry Speight was part of the coup in Fiji? He has lived in NZ since highschool and recently moved to OZ. Just because he has family ties to politicians in Fiji doesn't mean he instigated a coup. I think you need to think before you speak mate ;)

Oh for FFS go read my original post. It said if he is going to play. You could be eligible for Uzbekhistan still means nothing you have to play. Have you forgot about the ban of the Fijian players in the last WC?

It has nothing to do with direct ties. Its politics and there is things like propaganda. If you want to know how politics work go Google the Springbok prop who's dad was involved in the Zim farm jackings and why he don't play in SA anymore.

There is no policy from New Zealand or Australia though - that prevents Fijians with family involved in the military coup. If he was a part of the army you'd have a point. Fiji propaganda doesn't really effect NZ or Australian sporting policies - as you may have worked out when we didn't play in Fiji for their centenary. Considering Speight has been able to live in New Zealand for nearly a decade - and has already lived in Australia for nearly three years - surely you'd realize that there would be no issue with his selection.

Again you are completely wrong. Only those Fijian players associated with the military were banned. Is Speight part of the Fijian Military? NO.

And just to be clear, here is you original post, a post which showed you had no clue that Speight will be eligible to pay for OZ from the end of this year. That was what I was originally pointing out to you:
he's fijian, has played most of his pro rugby career in NZ with waikato, even his dad is a fijian politician. Speight will have to turn prostitute and the ARU pimp for him to wear a wallaby jersey, and both will lose face.

Anyway I'm done with you. On to the rugby tonight!

I hope the Ozzies go well (not win but go well). Excited to see Luatua and Taylor in action again and expect the ABs will win by double figures. I just can't see how Australia will score enough points, they looked almost incapable of scoring tries last week, their kicking game was average, and their forwards gave up more and more as the game went on. I expect some improvement from them this week but I don't think it will be enough to really trouble the ABs.

ABs by 12!

Fair point. But consider there is no work in Fiji part from the military

PM won't budge on Fiji ban for RWC
6:32 PM Wednesday Jun 1, 2011

The Government won't relax travel sanctions against Fiji to avoid potential problems with the Rugby World Cup tournament, Prime Minister John Key says.

Fiji is reported to be threatening to boycott the tournament unless all its team members and officials are allowed into New Zealand, and the International Rugby Board (IRB) doesn't want any upsets.

The travel ban applies to members of Fiji's military and anyone associated with Commodore Frank Bainimarama's ruling regime - and that covers some team members and the chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union.

"We haven't changed our stance, which is that if someone is associated with the regime they will be subject to travel sanctions," Mr Key told reporters today.

"I think Frank Bainimarama's brother-in-law is running it (the Fiji Rugby Union) now, and it would make a bit of a mockery of the sanctions that we have in place."

Speight's association with the military is not strong enough to affect his chances. On the other hand, ABs2011 you've misinterpreted a lot of what sif has said - i.e. I don't think he was ever saying Speight wasn't eligible, nor was he saying Speight was in the military.

Speight will be in the Wallabies squad for the EOYT, guaranteed.

Yup, and as far as I am aware the military ban for the RWC was in terms of travel restrictions on those IN the Fijian military, so it is a moot point when it comes to Henry Speight as he is not Fijian Military.

I may have misinterpreted him but I don't really care now. He has been all over the show. The conversation started about Speight when someone suggested Speight will be in the Wallabies sometime soon. sif's response suggested he had no idea that Speight was eligible for the Wallabies (so I informed him of that), then he started talking about the Fijian Military, politics and a whole bunch of other irrelevant stuff. If he doesnt think Speight is good enough to play for OZ then that's fine, he is welcome to his opinion, but talk of eligibility, politics, military connections....none of it is relevant.

Just one of the things I think you misinterpreted. But like you said, it's done!

It's seen that Ewen McKenzie liked Brumbies players more than his players (Reds). Not even Robbie Deans had many Brumbies players in his team as Ewen. Leali'ifano, Toomua, Jesse Mogg, Fardy, Mowen and others

Surely a bit like an England Coach picking more from Leicester when they were the leading club in England and now Sarries......or Wales and Osprey's?
