Scotland is wanting him to quailfiy through the 3 year plan.

They have loads of wingers and already some aren't even Scottish ( Visser, Maitland)

Apparently Clive Woodward has applied to be the next France coach.

Interesting. I pity the guy who gets the gig, they'd be up against a fundamentally flawed union.

Personally I hope Noves gets it as he's really the only French coach other than Bernard Laporte who has consistently delivered excellence within French rugby (this season perhaps excluding).

RE: Noves he is now well past his sell buy date he's looked a reck of a man the last two season, lets no forget the Fritz shambles last year etc... and the awful form early both season, Tolouse have been here or there about due to the class of the squad not Noves, they've been on a downward slide for a while.

It should have been Galthie, about 3 years ago, but i fear that ship has sailed now.

Noves has won everything there is to win in Europe. You dont just suddenly become a bad coach. His success as a rugby coach is still more recent the Clive Woodward's. Toulouse haven't been brilliant in the last two seasons - but they haven't been shoocking either. He has produced some of the best French talent over the last 15 years. The Fritz thing was terrible management and morally pretty horribe - but it doesn't mean I don't think he could find success with France (as much as anyone could at any rate). Add that to the fact I think he can produce an attractive running rugby game for France which can play to their strengths.

I like Galthie as a coach, and he did well with SF and even more so with Montpellier. But one Top 14 ***le 5 years ago isnt much better than electing PSA based on his work with Sale (for the record I think Galthie is better - but I think it is best to reward continual success). Noves has won 4 h-cups, 10 french ***les and 2 french cups. Surely he's earned a shot with the French team..

I hope he does not take it as can only bring a big dent to his reputation particularly as Blanco is going to be entrenched and that man cannot keep out of things!

I have criticized him over the last two years and feel that his days were in a period when they, more or less alone, had the big bucks from Aerospatial. However, he put in place good systems in the club to maximize the Espoirs and many a French player can thank him.

I would be truly surprised that a guy like Noves would take on such a job as coach other than on his terms and, with Blanco there, just cannot seeing him get them - even if he gets them on paper, not sure he would in reality!!

I'm not advocating Woodward over Noves, so i'm not sure of the point.

I also think Noves, he has been by far the best coach in Europe for the best part of two decades, and I agree you don't suddenly become a bad coach, but that doesn't mean he's the coach of old or the right man for the job, Tolouse have also been on a downward spiral since around 2011 (possibly even further).

Noves is old, the French team needs a young energetic coach, Galthie was by far the best candidate for the job, but the PSA debacle won out. :(
