Transfers rumours

Louis Ludik appears to be the utility back from reading the UAFC.

Also rumours about a IQ 9 based in France and Sean Doyle going off to Brumbies

Ludik is superb, he'd be a bok if Meyer wasn't coach. Can play OC but far and away a better fullback (decent on the wing as a wing-fb transition player). Good positional awareness, reliable underneath the ball and with the boot, no frailties in defence, always interesting hair. Treat him well :)

An OC/FB is an interesting choice for Ulster. I get that Farrell is leaving, but does this mean that they're expecting both Cave and Payne to be heavily involved with Ireland in the immediate future?

Think not planning for that possibility would be reckless. I'd say they both look second choice for OC/FB respectively at worst - and that's an ongoing argument as things stand, who knows how things will play out with fitness and form.

Of course, having a second top class full-back on the books makes Payne to 13 more of a possibility too.

Overall, this makes a lot of sense to me. We are short of full-back cover and short of outside-centre cover if you need Payne to be there. More importantly, we need more experienced quality in our backline when international duty swings round. A worst-case scenario sees 8 backs with Ireland or out injured - Payne, Bowe, Trimble, Gilroy, Cave, Marshall, Olding, Jackson - that would leave us with a ghost of a unit, even if we assume no more injuries. None of those players is a long term shot, maybe Gilroy if he doesn't recover form (but if he doesn't recover form, he's not too much use to us and I think he's doing it). Ludik can be our Nacewa, a versatile high-quality guy who can really shine in that situation and is just a big boost in general.

Ah yeah, I'm not saying it's a bad move by any means. I'm just surprised that with Trimble and Bowe very much in Irish contention they wouldn't pluck for someone who could cover a wing slot.

Well according to Draggs he can play wing...

Anyway, next guy after Trimble/Bowe is Gilroy, assuming he gets into contention as well I guess we're looking at Allen & Scholes - apparently our next best full-back after Payne is Ricky Andrew...

Dare I say it (as was lads in panel for studio tonight) will we see Leinster get a big name like Payne? Schmidt will want him playing 13 if he's to be there in green and well you never know

All aboard the Payne to Leinster train! Hope O'Dea goes well out west, looked good initially but hasn't been able to get on the pitch recently.

Can 100% say Luke O'Dea is contracted until June 2015 and will be staying here. Only reason he hasn't played much is because of injuries but if he could get string of games together he'd certainly be good enough to stake claim.

Munster have too many wings at this point, Earls, Zebo, Conway, Van Der Heever, O'Mahony and O'Dea and it seems like at most 3 of them get regular game time. They should probably have spent the money on Conway or Van Der Heever on another FB or OC.

Fact Earls will cover 13 and O'Mahony is more an A player game time won't be an issue. Especially when injuries usually occur. Also not sure what you mean "spend the money" when they all signed already. None on huge wage also Zebo covers 15 and GVDH can play 13 too

Ben Franks - Hurricanes ---> Ulster
Owen Franks - Crusaders ---> Ulster

Dont trust source but might as well put it up here

Has somebody told Ireland that they have already been capped?

Yeah, I'd say there is no chance that the Franks brothers are going anywhere before 2016. I wouldn't be suprised to see either leave after though.

Wouldn't be possible as IRFU wouldn't sanction it and fact they signed Sharks prop and Dave Ryan I think pretty much shuts this down too
