RWC Quarter Final: Ireland - Wales (08-10-2011, 18:00)

You go ahead and lose playing then ;).

Got a feeling Wales might nudge this one, rooting for Wales! Not going to happen very often :p.

Ill take that in the spirit it was intended and thank you for your support (God knows we dont need any more plastic paddies)
In return,I promise not to cheer on les bleus in typical welsh fashion, but only cos i got to be in work at 8.30(by god I fear extra time as much as a defeat)!!!!

Thanks.. I think :p. Same here England have to end it in the scheduled 80 or I'll miss it :S. Prolly stay and watch anyways then.

Does this mean that the Welsh team are planning to go for it all guns blazing!!!!

By **** I hope so, cos I love it when we play the game as intended and dont just resort to "playing percentages" and "grinding the other team down"

Win or lose I love the fact that only France in the NH can match our willingness to win with style and that is why supporting Wales, for all its lows, will always be special because Win or lose on Saturday we wont have to listen to the kind of dull win at all costs drivel that the likes of Martin Johnson and so many others come out with these days.

C`mon Waaaaaaaalees!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh oh! Grandpa forgot to take his meds

There wont be many tries in this one, probably 1 will do it. Both teams have excellent defenses. Penalties will win this one. Obviously I'm hoping we get the win but were all aware that it's a 50-50 game.

You see that has been the problem with welsh rugby for too long. If you watched Scrum V the other week a number of great welsh rugby players said this is the issue. There is no point in playing great rugby in spells for 20mins. To a man they said they are sick of the attitude of we played great rugby and lost. They would all take winning a game every day. The problem being it is no good playing rugby and attempting to win with style if you are not good enough.

Wales are playing great running rugby at the moment with a belief that they can win which is fantastic. If your not playing to win there is little point in being there, and at the end of the day no one ever remembers the losers. Winners make it happen and losers let it happen.

Would you sooner play great rugby and lose or win the world cup and grans slams?

I would rather we played great rugby and won!!! Barcelona are the greatest sporting team on the planet atm and they have shown you can win important football games in style. Different sport I know but the principle is the same. It is why I will always admire th ABs and Wallabies more than the Boks!

$35 on Wales to score at least two tries. They better go all guns blazing! Supposed to be sunny all day tomorrow too.
If anyone needs me during the game i will be in the Celtic dragon shouting racial epithets about irish people.

I'm sure I'm not the only neutral who is gutted that one of these sides will be going home this weekend.

Really looking forward to this game though. May the best team win.

The massive difference with Barcelona is that they have at least five or six players who are the best in there position in the world, and can play world class football because of it.
It is the ability of those players that allows them to play stunning football. For my sins I support West Ham who have always attempted to play great passing football, the problem with that is we do not have the world class players to do it.

For me that has always been the issue with Wales, it is great to have this ethos of open attacking rugby if you have the ability to carry it off. Wales over the last twenty years have had the ethos but not the ability to win playing great rugby. That is what sets most teams apart from the AB's as they in general have the players to do it.

Seems like a lot of people posting here are trying to convince themselves that their team will win.

Me too! Wales 66 - 0 Ireland. :p

I'm quite chuffed all my pre tournament predictions are coming to fruition! (you know, apart from the one of us playing Samoa in this game :p ). DOC is playing well again, in the big games, like every one should have known he would. No more calls for Leo to start now :) Irish pack has to be one of the most physical in the tournament, I wouldn't swap for any others at this stage, especially when you consider it is short Flanerry and Wallace to come off the bench.

Wales are unpredicatble though. Lydiate is a class act and will relish the challenge of tackling the Irish freaks in the backrow. Charteris is in great form. The Welsh scrum will provide another stern test for the Irish scrum which has done so well thus far. And Wales must have the biggest backline in the tournament! Hopefully we will be able the starve them of possesion as we did the Australians. I'd say Ireland have a better chance of winning, but not by much. Can't wait!

Difference is, we actually have a pack! We won't get bullied in the scrum and we aren't missing our main poacher. Ireland could dominate us in the lineout, but then we handled Matfield and co just fine, so I'd back us to do ok against Ireland aswell.

Whilst you are right about the quality of Barcelonas players it doesnt mesn all other teams should give up and play negative football. The reason they have those players is cos they have a philosophy and the skill levels running right throigh the club at every level. New Zealand rugby is similar in this and it is why they are so good.
Back to Wales, our Grand Slams wrre built on us reverting to our prefered style of high paced running rugby and we have failed more often than not when we have moved away and tried to emulate other teams styles.
Whst is exciting at present is we appear to have developed some sreel to back it up so can mix it when nessecary. Somitmes u get beaten by a better team, but I would rather us lose trying to win and entertain than to just trying not to lose!
