RWC: France - Tonga (01-10-2011, 18:00)

I'll be less diplomatic than you are.

Tonga #3 was goading the French into the scrum after the penalty was given. He was definately trash talking, no cultural gap/loss in translation there.
But Tonga, from the Head Coach down to #3 aren't humble. Maka was bad mouthing Canada after his side lost. Just how the culture of the team (not the country) is as set by the coach.
I do feel that could be a little more humble than goading your opponent at the end of the match and I'm glad France scored that try as little f-you.

Yes, that was what i gathered. Thanks.

AHAHAHA WHAT A GAME!!!! Loved the sledging at the scrum, was at the pub with a couple of mates and we all cracked up laughing when the french couldnt push. All the corn beef jokes flying out..lol..Best game ive seen in the RWC so far. Good on ya tonga! RESPECT TO MAKA FOR THE TONGAN SPEECH!

How can you say you're definately sure ? He was speaking in Tongan. Ask any Tongan on these boards to clarify. The only thing Taumalolo said to the French was "Come on" as well as signal he wanted another scrum. Once in the Scrum all they were saying was "HOKA!!" they were telling everyone to smash the french Scrum. So to suggest taumalolo was "definately" trash talking is ignorant.

Nothing wrong with trying to pump up the boys for the scrum..Every team does it.

One of the greatest scenes at this world cup never seen a team show more passion.

There's always a need for spostmanship even at the highest level.

I (black-)heartfuly agree. BTW, I saw this picture in the guardian:

That's not really what I would call good sportmanship! Or is the picture somehow misleading?

Really? Perhaps I'm not interpreting this "kick in the arse" as it should be, but I sure would not take the risk of doing such a thing after a match.

He's thr last guy down the tunnel, they always get a pat.on the back/bum

So he was trash talking. Point proven. As you have proven my point for me then the use of the "definately" is appropriate.

I understand passion and being into the game, but at the end of a game, that you won is really disrespectful and is trash talking. Only serving that France scored shortly after. Good job Taumalolo.

Ever heard of photoshop??? ;)

It was obviously a play on from some early banter. Sonny Bill is a git anyway.

If telling your team mates to smash the other team is trash talking then I dont see why the fuss over Tonga doing it every team does this. They just dont show as much passion when doing it.
