There should be more made of emptying high streets. Instead of boarding up shops they should perhaps turn them into apartments. That will hopefully bring footfall to local cafes etc

I think this is and will slowly happen where possible. Pretty much every high street is being chopped down due to the high rates and people spending elsewhere (online or out of town shopping areas).

My concern is with how they do it though. We all know this country likes to squeeze people for every penny they have.

Depends on the engineering. I fit chemical and lubrication systems which absolutely isn't complicated and any plumber/sparky can do it. Building is absolutely a form of engineering and the apprenticeships for building trades bricky/sparky/plumbing are the same as a welder/fitter.

It massively depends where you are in the building trade.

It's kinda a gripe with me that many people do fields which requires some brain capacity but then refer to themselves as engineers. The problem solving to me is key and I'd add in the word "complex" before problems.

Not trying to be little issues. But my father when he finished his degree people though he fixed washing machines when in reality he was a production engineer so his job was to work out how to build a washing machine. (You'd be surprised how often people design things that can't be built but would work if you magically makenthem apparate all the parts in thin air inntheir correct locations).

So basically, he's saying China should threaten to slap an export tariff on exactly those items to cripple big 'murican business and Trump will have to go begging to Xi.
