RWC: England - Scotland (01-10-2011, 20:30)

.... Did not deserve to lose to the Argies although poor options made throughout the game by both sides....

Well. A game is 80 min and it is decided at the end. You cannot go by "what if". In that case, Argentina did not deserve to loose to England, but they did.

This game will be a cracker. Traditional foes in all sports. One of the best Pool games this tourney. This kind of encounter is what the RWC is all about.

I really hope the scots get over the line. Did not deserve to lose to the Argies although poor options made throughout the game by both sides.
Yeah, I agree. Match of the weekend.

The win is well within Scotland's grasp, but I can't see them putting on enough points to make it out of the pool.

They dominated Arg better than England, but they don't score the tries that matter. They went one better against Ireland before the RWC, although that was down to a screw up in the Irish midfield defence, so they have serious force and just need to release Evans/Lamont/Danielli.

It's a good England 15. Not sure about the bench. I didn't know Wigglesworth was in the squad - just confirms how completely out of touch I am after my prediction of a French win against the ABs!

I'm not saying that I can see it happen, but if Scotland need to win by 8 points, it would be fairly typical of them to win by 7 and stll end up going home, only to become another team of Scottish "glorious losers"....

Glorious Failure has a much better ring to it. ;)

We are very inventive in terms of defeats, if anything we will win by the required 8, but the Argies will stuff up and not win with a BP, or worse we win with a BP, England gets a BP, and Argies also win with BP. We go out on points difference.

You can't have Scotland winning with a BP and England also getting a BP. If Scotland win by 8 or more, they get the BP. If they win by less, England get it.

er no, that's not how bonus points work in rugby.

You can a bonus point by:
(a) losing within 7 points or
(b) scoring 4 tries or more.

There are no bonus points at all for the margin of your victory.

I think the real thing is Scotland can't win with a bonus point as there score is always divisible by 3 :p

I can't wait for this match, it's not going to be pretty but it will be an epic battle, will probably be the most physical match of the tourny so far.

I think on five live last night they said Scotland have not beaten England by 7 or more in twenty years. I am not sure how true this is, I have not checked.
The thing I hate about these stats is that at some point they will get broken, now having nightmares hearing the commentator "Well that's it the first time in twenty years"

The article also said England are training with balls kept in buckets of water. Now that is thinking out side the box

Big Call. Especially after Samoa's game.

Good luck Scotland - if Samoa can go toe to toe with a Giant...

Who's to say that you can't?

May the best team win.

Samoa vs South Africa isn' exacly England vs Scotland

Scotland have beaten us a fair few times over the years, and push us close most times we win

I imagine that is true, however in our defence we haven't needed to win by more than seven against England, well ever. In the games we've actually won recently, (my memory may be faulty, so please correct as nessecary) we've tended to build a 'lead' and sat back and defended. This time, we can't. If we build any kind of lead, we have got to go out and try score some tries.

I know Robinson's objective would be to make the quarters, and a win tomorrow may just do that, but I hope with all my heart we go all out if we get a lead in the game.
I would rather we go out looking to avoid the All Blacks and have a shot against France for a semi spot, than cower against England and get yet another drubbing from New Zealand in yet ANOTHER quarterfinal match.

Some Halo now, watch a bit of Currie Cup ( and the Edinburgh/ whoever game, should I find a 'source'), a wee sleep. The rugby in the early hours in the morning, nerves shattered by 9:30, considering taking a few swigs of medication to calm me down, then our most important match against England since the 1991 semi-final.

You and me both mate. Nervous to say the least.

I think either would have a good chance against the French. By all accounts and if the reports are true they are not a happy camp. No surprise there, and they have a manager who has been told he is going at then end of the competition.

If the weather reports are spot on it might not make a great day for running rugby. I just hope it is a good game by both teams.

What's up with the French and their world cups recently? Seems to becoming a national phenomenon to fall out (well, at least a complete one) with the coach at exactly the wrong time, across codes coaches being told they are getting hoofed after the most important showpieve of them all. Dinnae get it.

They're French! No but there is something wrong there, theres arguments everywhere in France from sports to studentriots, not saying they're related but theres definatly something wrong.

I would take none of Scotland's locks above Lawes/Palmer/Shaw and all of them above Deacon.

Ok, maybe the Shaw bit was an exagerration. But my point should be made...

Shaw, on top form, is still a class act.

so this game is on at 8.30 british time instead of 9 30? damm. have no tv, internet is dodgy and the local pub isnt opening until 9.30 as thats when they think the games on. so annoying
