Apparently the last three times we've played Scotland in the wet they've won, and it's forecast to be wweett for this match :(

Have you got any idea why Palmer isn't starting Olly? Isn't he completely fit or something? Just can't understand why he'd have Deacon there?:S

I might get a slap over this but some times I think Jono likes his Leicester lads a little to much over others.

In other breaking news: The cows go moo :p

Only reason I can think of is that it's going to be a wet, horrible day and Deacon is a bit more physical than Palmer. However Shaw is more physical than Deacon.....
I really would have started Palmer as we're going to need him running the lineout as the Scots lineout ain't too shabby (especially Gray)

Johnson seems to have found yet another excuse to pick Deacon, this time at the expense of Palmer. Still think Wood should be wearing 7. Still think Flood is a better option than Jonny.

The structure of the 22 is a wee bit off too. Cueto is far better than Banahan, even Johnson knows that. But Banahan covers (apparently) centre too so he gets to be 22. I think Armitage has earned his starting spot, but it would have been more sensible to start Cueto and have Armitage on the bench IMO.

Will someone explain to me what it is that Deacon actually does? "Honest hard work" does not count as an answer. It's a bare minimum. I would worry if any of our players were "dishonest" or "lazy". A real shame that Flood isn't starting, especially when you consider Jonny's woeful recent record against scotland.

Agree about Deacon, everybody except for Johson seems to dumbstruck by why and how he is starting. I do think Wilko should start though, but if he's not playing well give Flood a go. I do think Wilko is the way to go come QF,SF,Final. Flood just is not reliably in pressure games.

This game will be a cracker. Traditional foes in all sports. One of the best Pool games this tourney. This kind of encounter is what the RWC is all about.

I really hope the scots get over the line. Did not deserve to lose to the Argies although poor options made throughout the game by both sides.

Just been watching England and Romania on Iplayer as I missed the first half when it was on. Few things coming to mind:

1) How bad was our scrum in the second half with Wilson on!?
2) Wilkinson's ability to straighten the line of attack and fix defenders is really valuable and I've definitely overlooked that as a self-confessed Flood fan.
3) We best pray that Youngs doesn't injure himself because he is head and shoulders above Wigglesworth. We already knew this I guess.
4) The only thing Vickery ever talks about is leg-drive.
5) If we continue to use Tuilagi well and arguably more we will trouble any defence out there. He runs incredible lines and using him as a weapon against an oppositions 10-12 channel from lineout ball is a great weapon. The problem is then when trying to recycle quick ball our only option is then to ensure it goes wide asap because without Tuilagi in the line Tindall does not have the dynamism to exploit the opportunity himself.
6) Croft is irreplaceable.
7) Cueto is surprisingly good at the breakdown!
8) Romania are permanently offside.
9) Palmer has great hands and didn't deserve to lose his place.
10) In big games we need Ashton and Cueto infield and sniffing around as much as possible.

I love Deacon.

I hope he is England's best performer on the park on Saturday.

That way we are garuanteed of victory :D

Deacon over Simon Shaw? Thats crazy dog, thats just craz-ay.

Well my issues are:

1. The bench-What are Nick Easter and Matt tattooman doing on it instead of Cueto and Wood?
2.Why is Matt Stevens starting at loosehead (he is a tighthead by his own admission) when we have a perfectly good loose head on the bench.
3.Armitage should be on the bench with Cueto starting.
4.Got no problem with Deacon, good lineout operator, grafter and clears put plenty of rucks. Dont forget him and Palmer were the 2nd row for the 6 nations. Lawes should be on the bench

Lawes and Palmer give us very fast ball and a very good lineout, they are our strongest second row pairing.

Stevens and Cole are our strongest props imo, Stevens plays both sides very well and I'd rather have him playing than Corbs who im not to impressed by.

That's because Lawes was injured - Deacon was poor throughout the 6N, the only thing he did of worth was getting yellow carded vs Wales (and stopping a try in the process)

I would take none of Scotland's locks above Lawes/Palmer/Shaw and all of them above Deacon.

Ok, maybe the Shaw bit was an exagerration. But my point should be made...
