RWC: All Blacks - Canada (02-10-2011, 15:30)

overall Canada had a fine world cup. they tried to play beautiful rugby and that's why they conceded 12 tries but this scoreline doesn't reflect their performance this year. I hope Canada will come back even stronger in 2015. in fact I hope so called minnows will compete for the playoffs next time around. Cheers

In the upcoming days I want to start a Tier 2 and 3 "all thirty team" thread, I would LOVE to see the best players from the minnows go up against the worlds best (Barbarians are you listening).

Also, this is likely to be the last time Zac features in this world cup if Kahui and Jane come back but he definitely redeemed himself today.

I'm not so sure. Kahui has been fairly average in terms of a wing in a dominating forward effort against tier 2 teams. Four tries in three games isn't exceptional. Likewise with Dagg, what is this hype about? Brilliant during the Super tournament but so so ordinary in the world cup, though Mils played a lot better but was taken off, crazy. I'm guessing 11. Guildford 14. Jane/Dagg 15. Mils

Sorry I disagree. Kahui's performance in all three games he played has been awesome. He basically cemented his place in the top XV in those first couple of games. Both him and Dagg have been able to break the line at will.

I'm a massive fan of Mils but even today Dagg looked more threatening with the ball in hand.

Scotland and Italy are Tier 1 and Argentina will be when they join to form the 4 Nations.

Yeah I'm going to include Samoa and Fiji in the all Thrity as I want to create a minnows team (I use that term with reservation) that could seriously compete for the Webb Ellis trophy.

Well, that was quite the game, where to begin...

- Smith, despite playing well in the previous games, was woeful in defence today. Way too many missed tackles.
- Woodcock showed Marshall his PhD in scrummaging late in the first half. I don't think I've seen a prop during the WC get folded in half that bad, total domination by Woodcock.
-Trainor made up for his muckup on recovering the ball in the in-goal area early on by playing well in attack and managing to score two tries against the AB's. Most tier one players haven't even done that, get the kid a contract in the Top 14
-Despite the scrum getting torn apart, Carpenter was good with the ball in hand and always made the gainline. Buydens was also good in that regard and actually held his own in the scrum in the second half.
- Lovin the CFL lineout by Marshall (who cares if it was the most crooked throw in of all time?)

Overall this was a decent WC by Canada, but I'm still gutted about Tonga beating France and taking third place from us. Looking forward though, Crowley needs to look beyond Fairhurst (I know he's a god, but White is capable and Mackenzie needs game time), Smith, Cudmore, and Riordan. Of the old guard Pritchard is the only one I would like to see back in 2015, hopefully coming off the bench in the second half to make important kicks, ala O'Gara.

Most players should be back though, and I think a lot have won themselves pro contracts with the way they have played. It hasn't been announced, but I heard Mackenzie has signed with Wasps, and I also heard that Marshall has been talking with some clubs too. And if they're signable, one would think that Trainor and Buydens would be in talks too. And if Kleeberger doesn't get one, something is fu**ed up.

2015

1) Buydens
2) Hamilton
3) Marshall
4) Sinclair
5) Hotson
6) Kleeberger
7) O'Toole
8) Carpenter

9) White
10)
11) Mackenzie
12) Trainor
13) DTH
14) Paris
15) Evans

That's a pretty solid return when you consider that Pritchard and Monro could be slotted in there too. Can't forget about a guy like Cam Pierce who is in the Clermont Academy side either, gonna be good one.

Solid effort boys.

I just hope Guildford's four try performance does not put him into the 22 for the knockouts.

Really?

The All Blacks missed a total of.... 2 tackles, one by Kaino, and one by SBW

Conrad Smith made 4 tackles and missed ZERO

If you are talking about YOUR man Smith, he made 16 tackles and missed just 2 (87.5%)

Your whole team missed 27 out of 101 tackles (78%)

So I think you are being too hard on both Smiths.

If we play like this in the playoffs, we might get past Argentina, but Australia or South Africa will slaughter us.

Agreed.

And agreed.

The pressure on our foward pack just trebled with the loss of Carter. If the All Blacks have to come up against the Boks they need to ensure they can win the game soley up front before they can even think about spinning the ball wide. My preference would be to play Weepu at 10 and have him kicking for territory, they way he did today.

Agreed about Pritch, maybe just maybe Cudmore back if he can accept a role on the bench and he can still make an impact. Riordan is clearly done(as his early subs indicate) Smith went out well and is rumoured to be done anyway. I would be surprised if Ed hung on too long with his work commitments, his commitment has been oustanding to this point and White looked real good as time went on. Walsh and Erichsen are done and their spots on the roster were a testament to their longevity and hard work in the maple leaf and CRC uniforms.

Monro is in the same boat as Pritch but perhaps more doubtful since he isn't playing professionally. And as I said earlier the 2015 RWC is where Pritch is based whcih means he dosen't have to spend as much time away from his young family as possible.

Our NH posters are half right, Ed Fairhurst is ok but not great.

Disclaimer: The following text should be ignored in any other context on TRF

It wasn't his best game Sam, he was going too high on the tackle, and his offside that resulted in that penalty was pretty bad, I still think Heinzy's comment that he couldn't tackle his grandmother was off base. He wasn't that bad he acutally did O.K. as you said just not up to his God standards.

Kaino Monstered the canadians today, absolute BEAST. How about Ben Franks nice to meet you shoulder bump?

Yes, but I would pick Kahui and Toeava over him on the wing any day

Of course, so did Guildford, the reason they can break the line lots and score a heap of tries is because of a quality forward pack dominating with Nonu and Smith setting up the space. I seem to remember Kahui doing nothing against France. What are you talking about with Dagg looking threatening? He scored one try which was set up by Guildford and apart from that did nothing. Mils scored a try and set up two others plus was solid on defence unlike Dagg who I seem to remember getting his hands in a fair few amount of rucks, dropping the ball and poor positional play on defence which Mils had to come over and cover.

That's "Heretic"... with an "e"

"Heratic" (also spelled "Hieratic") is a form of ancient writing, similar to Demotic. Well at least that's how I remember it from antiquities classes

Just being picky!!!
