June International Test: Argentina vs. France [2nd Test] (25/06/2016)

Everything about this match is a disgrace: the result, the way we're playing, the discipline, the stadium and pitch...

wow. Argentina not getting a point in this match.

France win. Absolutely overjoyed by this. And by such a big margin, but also putting away a poor team is part of winning games and building confidence.

The French are on the way back in that evidence. Argentina just put a spanner in the works for Scotland's historic quest for an eighth seed spot at the next WC!

What's happening with Argentinian rugby this year? Last year they were awesome, this year it's like they have regressed, similar to Australia, complacency after a strong world cup showing?

jeez, for the nth time... Lobbe, Bosch, Figallo, Ayerza, Imhoff

This 2nd test should be all meat and drink to Argentina.

The French team's selection looks better on paper from the 1st test i.e. they're looking marginally less like a bunch of tourists - but on paper only. On the pitch there's no cohesion. Everyone is throwing in their little cameo to impress the selector in the hope of notching more caps.

Test caps have become an important bargaining tool for French internationals when discussing a new contract with their club...Let's not fool ourselves.

There's a distinct lack of leadership in the group. This was striking during the 6N with not one senior player willing to stick their neck out for Guirado. But this is not surprising with players focusing on their club career. They want the caps to tell their grand kids but they don't want the added responsibility that come with captaincy or leadership.

Yohann Maestri doesn't strike me as a captain even for one game. He was poor during the 6N and didn't show leadership quality. Also he's carrying far too many knocks. In a recent interview he said he played the last league game v Racing under injection due to an injury. He shouldn't even be touring.

The blue train wreck is gathering speed and no moss...

GOT THAT ONE WELL WRONG
0-27 to France. Serin will have a permanent spot for France after both Internationals probably with FTD. at 10, back row not too shabby neither, sort out a good front 5 and send Bonneval back to Paris and there is a back bone of a potential match winning side, but as always i am more interested in TOP 14 than National team but still good to see an excellent win away from home.!!!!!!!!!!

OMG. This is really bad.
I didn't see the match, but I can't imagine any situation that can explain this result.

Now we are 9th in the ranking, a really bad position thinking about the 2019 RWC.
We have 1 year to fix it, but there aren't any sign pointing to the right direction.

We all appreciate what a joy it has been to watch the rise of Argentina over the last two decades. However there is a big problem in that they are very like the France of old who were completely unpredictable. Who else has lost to Tonga but made the World Cup final within three weeks of each other? France have become the old Argentina: predictable and occasionally effective. Argentina are the new France. Occasionally brilliant, always unpredictable.

Whenever a team reaches a high, there usually must be a low. Otherwise we'd all be the All Blacks. I have been SCATHING of the Jaguares performances but let me say this: if Argentina go into the World Cup as ninth ranked team, I think their opponents who get the three team "group of death" should be more worried about Argentina than the other way around. They are like a shark circling below in the deep and nobody will want them in their group in Japan. For now, get the Jaguares playing at least 80% of their best. The Under 20s are clearly excellent, if a little scared of the big occasion like their senior brothers, but I am confident all will be well. Too much talent, too much national pride for this to continue.

That was embarrassing to watch.

I guess my expectations both for Pumas and Jaguares were, well, unrealistic i suppose. I have to see and acknowledge the evidence in front of me.

My expectations were (naively) based on the fact that Hourcade kept saying during the WC: "this is a transition year, our focus is 2019".
I thought to myself, we are already playing pretty good, and sure, we'll lose some players but the younger ones look very promising AND we'll have the majority of them playing together every single week.
I guess i discarded the possibility of us punching WAY above our weight during the world cup.

To be honest thou, i don't think anyone predicted we would be such an undisciplined team.

Argentina can be MUCH better than what we saw. Discipline the biggest issue. Well, joint with selection issues. You can't ban overseas players from the jersey if it's almost 50% of your best team.

It´s a combinations of things. Jags/Pumas lost a lot of good players and its showing. Also we went from being ultra defensive to playing everyball from everywhere, we are still adapting to that.

Also Jags Coaches the ones that have the players a lot, are doing things the wrong way and since it the same players on the pumas its showing.

Hopefully a few of the U20 are going to be great players in a few years and we can pump up again the Pumas side.

Argentina can't change their eligibility rules now or it'd be a kick in the teeth for the likes of Sanchez and Hernandez that made this sacrifice on their salary to leave Europe. We just have to get used to Argentina and the Jaguares maybe taking a year or two to develop back into a more competitive team. Its unfortunate, but in the long term it will work out. If top Argentine players want a bigger salary then they should try to get into a Super Rugby side in another country. That way they'd still be eligible for the Pumas.

Funny enough, they've already started tweaking with that. Imhoff played for our sevens team.

Argentina and the Jaguares will become a very good team in the next two years. Because those two teams are basically the same they will start to build a team cohesion unlike anything we have ever seen. Never before has a national rugby team and a rugby franchise shared most of their squad.
Usually a franchise if they are good they will produce about on average 5- 7 national team players. Then its the job of the national team coach to make all these players from different clubs and franchises play together. The Jaguares in a sense had a problem this year that many national teams face every year. These player regardless of their talent will become better year after year from playing together. They will know each other better than any other team on Super rugby level and international level. Then you can start factoring in individual talent and the contributions of the head coach. If not by the end of the year then by next year they will be able to beat most NH teams very consistently .
