South Africa: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 JP Pietersen, 13 Jaco Taute, 12 Jean de Villiers (captain), 11 Francois Hougaard, 10 Pat Lambie, 9 Ruan Pienaar, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Willem Alberts, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Juandré Kruger, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Tendai Mtawarira.
Replacements: 16 Schalk Brits, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 Pat Cilliers, 19 Flip van der Merwe, 20 Marcell Coetzee, 21 Morné Steyn, 22 Juan de Jongh, 23 Lwazi Mvovo.

I am over the moon that Lambie will start at 10. Other than CJ van der Linde(? though his probably there because of his familiarity with our opposition) and That I'd demote Kirchner to shift Taute to 15 and bring in De Jongh at 13 this is probably the best HM could do considering we have almost an entire starting XV out injured or not available since the world cup.

Taute at 13 :/ He needs to play fullback!

I'm holding out hope that HM is only sticking to the set-up as is due to his stubborness and not wanting to make heavy changes. The up-side is that he stuck by guns WRT M Steyn not starting so I am actually not complaining any further LOL. We are getting closer to a line-up that resembles form though it has to be said and we do have a raft of injuries to contend with. Apart from Taute at 13 do you have other qualms?

EIDT; I have no idea what I said in the 1st sentence LOL. Seems my English is forsaking me.

I'd imagine that this is the case, especially considering that HM has also called up Heinke Van Der Merwe (currently plying his trade as Cian Healy's understudy at Leinster) to the touring party. No other logic behind it, especially when he could have called up Brian Mujati at LH, who's a better player by far.

Anyway, I wouldn't be worried at all to see CJ come on. He offers very little outside of the scrum and our front five should be able to cope with the Boks in that area, especially considering the level of familiarity we have there.

It'll be amusing to watch the two cousins go at it by the way.

Mujati playing loosehead is news to me.

Yeah, HM made it public that he wished to call up Mujati but that there were problems as Mujati somehow or other had his SA citizenship lapse or something to that effect so unfortunately no Mujati for us. We certainly have better option at both TH and LH than CJ. Bit of a pity that we are going to old players if they aren't at least better as is than the younger guys who have potential.

The relationships across the front row in this clash is pretty bizarre. The stars have already aligned that Strauss will be facing his cousin Strauss and if CJ van der Linde and H van der Merwe had to come forward to face an all Leinster front row... well I find it quite strange.

He did score this memorable try once though ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IWEzeHkl64&t=4m5s

I'm happy with that team. CJ leaves a question mark, but his purpose is to scrum, and he will do it well. it looks to me as though we have 1 LH and 3 TH in the 23-team. whether CJ will even get a run is another question, and maybe he's just there to fill in the blank space. How does the back-up players work? if they are included, can the guy they replaced be used in the next match if fit? or is there some policy of preventing him once he's been replaced?

Hein, I'm actually more worried about CJ's work at the scrum than his 'overall contributions'.

I mean, we, WP, let him go. Us! We let him go and preferred Brok Harris and an 2 untested rookies ahead of him. Brok. Harris.

Would he have played as much with AC there? Kitshoff is one for the future, and you didn't really let him go as much as that the Lions made him a better offer...

He is a rather mediocre prop. That's about the long and short of it I'm afraid.

That said I do think we have a squad that could go 3/3 this tour. There isn't really an easy game though so the guys will need to step up for 3 games in a row at the end of a very very long season. Easier said than done but I believe we should feel disappointed if we don't go the distance these 3 games.

Three changes to Bok side for Dublin

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has elected to keep changes to a minimum for Saturday's test against Ireland in Dublin, which may explain what many might consider the surprise selections in the starting team.
As anticipated Meyer has selected Pat Lambie at flyhalf, with the Sharks player moving up from the bench role that he filled in the Castle Rugby Championship.
Surprisingly, there is no place in the match-day squad for Elton Jantjies, with Meyer electing to put faith instead in Morne Steyn, the man who was dropped after the overseas leg following a nightmare run of poor form.
It was in fact Free Stater Johan Goosen who started the last test match the Boks played, which was the final Championship match against the All Blacks at FNB Stadium, but Jantjies was on the bench that day and it was he who finished the game after Goosen was injured.
That was enough for some critics to feel that Jantjies should wear the No 10 in Dublin, but Lambie was the form flyhalf towards the end of the Currie Cup and it could be argued that he should have been thrust into a starting role as long ago as 2010, when he was the spearhead of the Sharks' win in that year's Absa Currie Cup.
There are two other changes to the side, both injury related, although JP Pietersen, who comes back for Bryan Habana, was always expected to play regardless of the status of his long-time wing partner.
Had Habana been fit to tour, he would no doubt have played in the No 11 jersey that Francois Hougaard is set to wear at the Aviva Stadium.
The other injury-enforced change to the starting line-up is at lock, where Juandre Kruger gets a further chance to build the momentum that was broken when he was left out following a strong performance in the away Castle Championship test match against the All Blacks in Dunedin.
Andries Bekker, who wore the No 5 jersey in the home leg, was – like Habana, reserve hooker Tiaan Liebenberg and reserve prop Coenie Oosthuizen – injured playing in the Currie Cup and was unable to tour.
POPULAR CHOICE
While the selection of Lambie at No 10 would seem a popular choice, there will doubtless be those who will feel Meyer should have gone a step further by playing Jaco Taute at fullback.
He has said that he prefers Taute as a fullback and the word after the Currie Cup final was that he would select Taute at No 15 ahead of Zane Kirchner to enable Juan de Jongh to come in as the starting outside centre.
Taute wasn't a success in the midfield in the home leg of the Championship, so it does beg the question as to why he is being retained.
The answer could be that Meyer opted against moving him to fullback on the basis that he does need to work on his tactical kicking game, and with Lambie being backed at No 10, he felt he needed the safety net Kirchner would provide.
Kirchner was the best out-of-hand kicker in the Bok team during the southern hemisphere season, and Meyer has admitted that it was Lambie's tactical kicking that he was most concerned about when he left him out from previous starting teams.
Along the same lines, that could explain the recall of Steyn to the bench.
"I am excited about what Pat can bring," said Meyer in explaining why he had selected Lambie at flyhalf.
"He played very well in the last couple of Absa Currie Cup games and I am confident he will bring that momentum with him to international rugby."
An exciting addition to the match-day squad is that of former Western Province hooker and current Saracens stalwart Schalk Brits, who Meyer is set to look at for a long-term impact role.
"Schalk is an explosive player who can bring something special off the bench," said the Bok coach.
Meyer has also confirmed that former Lions prop Heinke van der Merwe has been added to the group as cover for Gurthro Steenkamp, who has been struggling with a calf ****le. Van der Merwe these days plays for Leinster.
The number of replacements has been stretched to eight to comply with the new IRB regulations that demand adequate front-row cover on the bench.
CJ van der Linde will wear the Springbok jersey for the first time since last year's World Cup and Pat Cilliers returns to the bench after recovering from injury.

JP Pietersen asked in an interview if David Skrela would be playing in the backline for Ireland, haha

Very exited to see Schalk Brits back in any Bok team
There must be a reason why Taute - not a 13 and not de Jongh - a superb 13 was chosen.
Only logic I can see here is the coach wan'ts to give Taute more experience and Lambie needs to pass the test a tactical kicker as Taute have big boot, not a accurate one from hand
Until then we will have to endure dear old scarecrow Zane
Morny Steyn on the bench as backup, no issue with that
