Aviva Premiership 15/16 - Round 19

Saw someone on social media say that Wasps only had 3 academy products in their 23 today, so decided to have a quick mooch at the other sides:

Harlequins: 11
Leicester: 9
Sale: 9
Newcastle: 9
Gloucester: 8
Bath: 6
Northampton: 6
Saracens: 6
Exeter: 4
London Irish: 4
Wasps: 4
Worcester: 2

Just watching Chiefs vs Worcester, we REALLY need to do something about scrums. It's been about 10 minutes of back to back failed scrums and is seriously **** to watch. Compared to some of the Super rugby stuff, this is just dire.

Wade, Daly, Launch and ****

You're not wrong!
Maybe they just meant in the XV rather than XXIII

Is it really that surprising anyway that a club that damn near went bankrupt wasn't able to get the quality out of it's academy that others may have?

A normal match day 23 next season will have around 7 academy boys in it I believe (Wade, Daly, Launch, Hask, Cips, Simpson and Jones).

Our u17s/u18s have been looking fairly handy recently, with a few of the u18s getting some A-league games too.

Launchbury is NOT a Wasps academy god damn it he is a product of Quins academy.

He joined wasps at 17/18, and was officially part of wasps academy, that he was at quins before (who dropped him for the fantastic Matthews), doesn't stop him being a Wasps academy boy.

He was 18 when he left Quins.

15-18 @ Quins spent a season with Worthing and then moved to Wasps.

He not an academy product in my eyes, contract sure he would of been on an academy contract.

It's like Balmain at Leicester.

Actually I believe he wouldn't be able to clam academy credits going off the criteria for the salary cap.

What would those figures have been around 10 years ago?

I wish we could have quotas so that everyone was around or above the Quins level.

Probably helps explain my indifference for Wuss as the base of guns for hire.

This time 10 years ago
Bath V Leicester HC QF (Bath won)
Leicester Tigers 13 products
Bath 4 products

4 is pretty good for us considering around the league we could still have

Joseph
Both Watsons
Garvey
Lahiff
Gibson
Fisher
Homer
Corbs (I know injuries)

We had 7 academy players in play in other sides (I'm counting Miller and Thomas 1/2s, as they both moved from another academy to ours, then progressed to senior rugby).

Exeter looked a lot better yesterday and look like they could start to click at just the right time ,with all their injured players back/returning. I thought Atkins had his best match for Exeter ,ironically just as Lees and welch are coming back. Slade still doesn't look quite up to full speed yet, but LCD had a blinder and if he carries on like that he'll oust Hartley in no time.
Looking forward to next weeks game at Wasps, should be a cracker.

His throwing at lineouts is improving but still average at best, as it was last week. Must have made a rapid improvement to be better than Hartley, who isn't as good as George.

I like LCD and hope he can sort out his weaknesses in time for the AIs and fulfil his potential.

For Bath I make that
Catt, Ewels; Cooke, Devoto; Dunn, Mercer, WHomer

If we're counting Launch for Wasps, then Watson & Ford count for Bath (which would be taking the pi$$)

Ah, I just presumed Homer had been pinched from London Irish like his brother.

Not surprising to hear a Pirates supporter talking up LCD! IMO he has the highest ceiling of any English hooker, but as it stands has a fair way to go to overtake George or Hartley. Consistency is a pretty big thing for test match players.

I don't get why LCD is ahead of Taylor - is it just because he was in the u20s?
Taylor is better and more consistent. His line out throwing is top notch and he's probably the best striker of the ball in the premiership.
