anthems used in six nations

Your're right Lynne England should have their own anthem.

You are wrong William 18, God save the Queen is not the Wales anthem any more than it is the New Zealand anthem or any other commonwealth countries, we all have our own and so should England.

Our anthem is the worst there is and bordering on pro-religious discrimination.

Jerusalem is more rousing but suffers from the same problem.

Land of hope and glory suit the proms crowd but certainly not for me.

I say we sing land of our fathers in English. Mind games.

Im sorry but if any anthem takes the cake for sheer awful cringe worthiness, it's Ireland's Call.
I literally typed "or Ireland's call?" then erased it because I couldn't be arsed with the potential backlash

Completely agree though, not a fan of it (or flower of bloody scotland).

Yeah maybe a tie for last place between those 3, although flower of Scotland at least suits the "stop the music but keep singing to make it sound better" technique

My favourite is the Italians trying to keep up with the music. Seems to get faster every time I hear it.

The French and Italians have cracking anthems, the best although I hate to say it is the Welsh one, gives me goosebumps.

That's actually my least favourite bit of Flower of Scotland - maybe just because at that point you know you've still got 36minutes of anthem to go. I swear it gets longer every year.

Know what you mean about the Italian anthem - it's way too fast/complex a song for an anthem really
Do really like it, though - same with the French. They're both so stereotypically French/Italian.

i wonder if the english are just too tolerant............its acceptable for the scots to glorify a battle fought 800 years ago..........proud edwards army etc etc .
this battle was between scots and an almalgam of scots, welsh, irish and english..........dont believe mel gibson !!!!!
imagine the outcry if the english sang gstq verse 6.........general wade........rebellious scots to assuage etc etc.
failing that , someone could write a new song............perhaps call it?.........cullodens call for scotland games.........seamus a kaka ( not the correct spelling but translates as king james the ****head) for ireland.
welsh games would be easy..........we just sing the english words to land of my fathers..........whales.....big fishes are wales etc...........perfect.

right... stuff this... I've got the answer to the flegs and anthems questions...

England should sing Grand Old Duke of York. Quick, to the point, very English, and James Haskell could pull down Robshaw's shorts at the end.

France should can the anthem all together and just stand there looking moody having a gitane. Filter them to be in black and white.

Wales can sing Delilah, because apparently it's all about glorifying violence to women, and Scotland I Would Walk 500 Miles (just to see my team score)

The Italians should sing Mamma Mia, that's Italian right? Maybe thon fat bloke to do it.

As for the Irish... well... I've always thought the anthem situation there very inequitable... so, every province should get its own anthem. Connacht can have The West's Awake. Leinster, Molly Malone. Munster, I've Got a Horse Outside. And then have one anthem for the Ulster shinners, then one for the Ulster jaffas, then Isaac Boss will do his own haka. Ireland games to be shortened to 60 minutes to allow for this.

Problems solved.

I thought Ireland could sing hot potato... Must do the actions as well.

Flower of Scotland was written for guitar accompaniment, and should be a lot faster. Unfortunately they insist on playing the screechpipes every time which play in a different key, so it's downtuned. Turns it into a dirge. Which is actually somewhat appropriate for the sporting performance which has then followed in the past few years, when you think about it.

Mind you, I still don't much like it played properly!

My suggestion for our potato-fancier cousins?

Fields of Athenry by the Dropkick Murphy's

(Yes, I know, I know...Cue instant civil war within the Irish National Side. Opposing team eventually faces a 7's side...)

Why not Deutschland über alles if you really wanted something that would connect with the monarchy
( Im so edgy I get paper cuts when I ****)

Seriously though all of those songs are better the warble warble QUEEN warble. It sounds like tens of thousands of people complaining.

You say that's a joke, but....

(I realise the post I'm quoting is an old one)
