A Political Thread pt. 2

It was her pause as well. Had she said Teasock as one word she'd have gotten away with it.

Is it possible she'll be worse than Boris, seems so uninspiring.
We probably won't get the fragrant rule and normality breaking. Probably not as ******* lazy as well.

On a policy front probably more of the same she's positioned herself as the continuity candidate.

Don't think she's got the spine to be as blatantly corrupt and terrible as Boris - however does mean she'll likely be a puppet for the ERG etc. so it'll really be them in charge, who are just as bigoted/vile as Boris

Start of a slippery slope?

TBF, Liz probably IS more fragrant than Boris

Rees Mogg and the ERG would have access to pretty good polling data showing who wins with the Tory membership and MPs when looking at various scenarios. They've likely backed Truss based on that data and, as others have said, due to the fact that they can still exert control and influence over her. Suella Braverman is probably the hardest Brexiteer of all and comes across as far more intelligent than Truss but they didn't back her most likely because of the polling data and because a BEM candidate will be at a disadvantage with the membership.

Truss at PMQs is going to be an absolute train wreck. Starmer won't even need to be at the top of his game - he'll just need to keep the old ticker going and will still wipe the floor with her.

Never say never but I would be amazed if we make any changes to our abortion laws. To be honest I'm pretty ignorant about what our abortion laws are. Isn't it illegal after 24 weeks or something which I think is right anyway. Not sure you can rely on the bodily autonomy argument alone. In fact my body my choice isn't a great slogan.

Truss is by far the most easily manipulated of the candidates - that's why they want her. Braverman would have been an ally in Brexit, but (horrors) might have had some ideas of her own, Truss will be their puppet.

As we're talking about JRM, he's had this portrait taken, with not one, but 2 packets of crisps, to show how normal, and down with the kids he is.
He doesn't seem to know what to do with them.

And hanging behind him, is what looks to be a Ghostface outfit; or...

Maybe it's for the greater good (the greater good)

Ah yes Hot Fuzz reference 👍

Also, please note, it used to be that a change in the law required a vote in parliament.
I don't recall this going to a vote, just a lame-duck minister, on his own, with a pen (I reserve the right to be wrong, and that I simply missed that undergoing democratic scrutiny).

Nothing quite says exciting and inspiring like a double dose of ready salted...

No way was that voted on.

It would have been massive news if it were - and you'd have had pretty much every union out on strike simultaneously in protest.

Ministers can change laws via Statutory instrument after a review by Joint Statutory Instrument select committee, without going to a vote through parliament. This is known as secondary legislation and tax law is full of it.

She is starting to do my head in. At least Sunak is talking about tackling NHS waiting lists, inflation and the real priorities. All she is doing is saying what the Tory membership want to hear e.g. starting bonfire of EU laws etc. She's a Remainer and former Lib Dem FFS - talk about being unprincipled. I guess most of the Tory membership use private health care and don't give a monkey's about the NHS. Nor will they be affected too much by the cost of living.

What amazes me is that so many conservative supporters can still believe that everything is someone else's fault and not the conservatives. Do they honestly imagine the world is against and that, especially with domestic issues, it's the fault of those not in power and those in power are actually powerless?

I know as the above article says, they live in a fantasy world, but how deluded do you have to be to think that none of this is the Conservatives fault?
