I remember the pole tax riots. Pretty much sealed Maggie's fate. Aren't they just what we call council tax now?
Yep and hasn't changed since. I vaguely remember it as I was still in school and thought at the time WTF. But yes, never forget Maggie leaving office in tears.

Will never forget the bloke smashing a scaffold pole through the police car window and the copper on a horse hitting someone with a piece of wood.
 

Anyone old enough to remember the Poll tax riots will understand why the Governments have been reluctant to have touched it since.

I can also remember the Falklands war, and TV reporting from Vietnam.

And the moon landing, Charles investiture as POW, but not Kennedy.
 
There is a brilliant podcast on the Rest is classified about the intelligence picture before the Russians invaded Ukraine. It goes into all the meetings and the mindsets of players and how the legacy of WMDs in Iraq led to a lot of scepticism among some of Americas then Allies about whether Putin was serious or not when the head of the CIA had met Putin in 2021 and come back and said yes it's going to happen. Really worth a listen.
