The technology thread

If Teslas value falls too far and Twitter continues to just be a money sink, he could be in difficulties soon.
Don't know how much truth there is in it but I've seen people saying that 114.0 is where he can no longer leverage Tesla against Twitter and the banks step in

TSMC can afford to tell trump to p1ss off. They are the world leaders in chip manufacture.

The US has a carrot or stick approach, Biden with the chips act to encourage investment in the US as TSMC and Samsung have done with the less advanced chips, and strumpet with his sledgehammer approach, threaten and attack.

To an outsider which is the right way to go about it?

Strumpet has just cost Nvidia $5.5 billion with his chip ban.

The yanks would want to be careful there or they'll lose the architectural lead too.

If Intel and AMD don't have access to the latest process technologies, competitors don't need to beat them architecturally to beat them in performance and/or price: performance and/or performance: power.

Then server side software will head the way of ARM quicker; followed by client.

Customers will vote with their wallets and it'll be all over.

AMD are fabless, same as nvidia, most of their stuff is made by TSMC.

Intel is the US's only major fabricator, and they are way behind TSMC in fab tech.

I really hope AMD step up their game with GPUs and challenge Nvidia more. Nvidia have been getting away with inflated prices far too much and we need better competition.

The latest AMD GPU's are more than competative in the midrange. They still have nothing to compete at the high end vs the 5090, but not many people are in the market for such a behmoth.

I have AMD on my gaming pc and it's perfectly fine for consumer use.

Anyway the whole thing is so stupid. Can't wait for computers to be unaffordable and farmers to lose their jobs cause china won't buy our food.

Can't say I want to see anyone lose their jobs, Chinese or American. I do hope the US is schooled with this tariffs nonsense.

Since China is barring the export of certain minerals and metals needed for semiconductors where will this leave TSMC in both Taiwan and the US?

Then there's the added plus will strumpet reinstate his 32% tariff on Taiwan?

I know - so Trump would want to be careful about targeting TSMC too much. It leaves two blue chip US companies vulnerable.

The difference between high end and mid is not worth the huge cost, yeah. Plus, graphically, things look great now even on low settings.

And here I am happily playing rimworld which you can run on a potato.
