A Political Thread pt. 2

Straight out of Johnson's playbook - knows she's home and dry with the membership and that Neil will rip her a new one. No doubt she'll claim she's busy getting on with her job as Foreign Secretary. Coward.

What a win that would be for Priti Stupid.... if she ever actually gets to send one there.

I recall getting into the Brexit discussion when buying our kitchen work surface top (coming from Europe) - and the manager was adamant "nothing was going to happen" because of Brexit and it was all "project fear". I wish I could go back there and stick that in his face now.

Josh Hawley, goes form being mr "tough guy" with the fist raised in support of the insurrectionists to running through Congress to escape. Usual hypocritical cowards.

Yeh posted it up earlier. There are so many memes on that as well to him running. The Benny Hill is my favourite so far:

There was also an article about how supposedly 10,000 conservative members had written in asking for him to be on the ballot. Honestly if he could have found a way he would have gone for it.

Staggering that many Tory voters can still look at Johnson and not even think he's the best of a bad bunch but actually good... Christ on a bike there is a huge segment of this population who are just painfully thick. I am convinced that those who support people like Johnson would continue to do so no matter what he did. Such people are just scum. This long ago passed mere political difference, it became a battle of basic morality and basic recognition of reality. It's far easier to con some people than it is to convince them they have been conned.

I didn't like Cameron or May, I thought they were both pretty poor and not a fan of their policies. However I didn't think they were fundamentally disgusting individuals and I think they upheld the basic standards of conduct expected of a PM. Johnson is our Trump, he shat on everything decent, ignored all manners and how to conduct himself, destroyed the conventions and basic standards upon which the government and nation is founded and showed no remorse for his utter corruption of the entire system, damage that will take far longer to fix than it took to cause.

It should be noted that there's no verification on those numbers and it's quite clear that a number of those are not Conservative members but the internets having shits and giggles.

True

Didn't watch it last night, but by all accounts it was a **** show. Thoughts?

Truss is still awful. She struggles to get the words out and articulate herself not to mention those weird facial expressions and arm movements while Sunak is talking. All she's doing is coming up with policies that she thinks will please Tory party members and her ERG pals as opposed to what is in the national interest.

I know we don't have a Presidential system here but I have a massive problem with an elected party changing leader mid term and for the new leader to rip up the manifesto and start making new promises. The mandate they got in 2019 is obsolete IMO and there has to be a new GE after the new leader is in post in order to get a fresh mandate. I also have a problem with the fact that our new PM is hand picked by predominantly old rich white men who live in the south.

This leadership contest feels like a boxing match where the referee and judges are pals of one of the boxers.
