I'm currently watching a time travel TV show (Timeless) and have just come across an episode featuring Joe McCarthy and his communist hunt.

Looked him up to understand him a bit more and came across this from the US senate archives

Does anyone else think there's a parallel between McCarthy and what's happening today?

Particularly the second and third paragraphs.

Yes, I can see the parallel. McCarthy was paranoid about Communists and Trump (and his far right fanatics) are paranoid about pretty much everything.

You obviously didn't read and especially didn't understand the article.

In Jan the deepseek announcement did indeed wipe a large amount of value off Nvidia.

It also very much brought into question the US claims that only countries capable of invested 500+bn could compete or even develop AI.

But to try and blame that one event and it's immediate consequences for this week's markets crash is totally off the rails and shows how inept the current American government is.

I don't expect you to understand or believe because you are just contrary to everybody deliberately to be a WUM.

I won't engage any further with you on this because I have a life unlike you.
