A Political Thread pt. 2

A] She will win
B] You may well regret your second sentence
To be honest, at this point, given the **** show over the last decade, I'm past it. I'm a borderline nihilist now. Bring it on. They're all scumbags but Truss is a truly thick individual and it would make me laugh seeing her in the highest office in the country.

change two letters in the first word, the noun of the third word, and a pronoun in the second sentence and you have yourself a sentence a lot of funny people said around 2015 that they eventually regretted
They're all Trump babies. Or is it Fararge babies as I think Trump took a lot from Fararge and Brexit. Either way, what a time to be alive.

Blimey. Sunak the Covid rulebreaker against Truss whose answer to the environmental issues facing the world was to say that bloody Europeans produced a report on endangered species across the continent and if she wins power she'll produce a British report on British endangered species instead. Possibly the most idiotic dog whistling failure to address an issue I've heard from a UK politician and that's saying something given who she replaced.

She'll make Boris look like Greta Theresa.

The French had the right idea.

I generally agree that the monarchy is anachronistic, and that there being any kind of landed gentry in the 21st C is even worse. I wouldn't be opposed to a purely symbolic, powerless, monarchy if we got rid of the others.

However, I'm not sure revolution, a reign of terror that arrests and executes any perceived dissidents, then a dictator who styles himself as emperor and invades half of Europe is the 'right' way to move away from it.

They're pretty powerless today and mostly symbolic. For me it's what they represent and the very symbol of privilege and oppression I have a problem with, on top of the valid points you raised as well.

Fair point on old Boney but the whole cutting off head thing I'm not dead against.

"Hit the ground" is probably a more apt phrase for Truss seeing as she probably struggles with the whole running part. One foot in front of the other, at speed, can be tricky. Best to just hit the ground.

Another step on the road to a united Ireland I think.

Clean useless - Johnson with lipstick.

Johnson with lipstick and smaller t1ts.

Utter madness that a thickie like her is in line to be voted in as the next PM by the old white racist Tory membership. At least she'll be sent packing in 2024 as there's not a snowball's chance in hell she'll win a GE

Honestly Truss getting leadership will mark the end of Tory government for years to come.

Sunak I feel will end up being a "safe" pm for the Tory's he won't win an election but I don't think he would lose anymore supporters.

Truss is massively out of her depth at cabinet level let alone the top spot makes Johnson look like a semi decent leader…

You almost wonder if she is put up as a crap candidate for Sunak to knock down...

Outside of Blair and 97 the Tories are like a **** that won't flush. I find it hard to believe that we'll see the end of them for years to come, even if they some how resurrected Adolf Hitler they'd probably still do alright. Perhaps an election cycle but I still think it's going to be hard for Labour to win an outright majority.

What makes you think Sunak won't win an election? I think he'll walk it. The Tories will always be seen as the economically responsible party and Sunak will lean into this I reckon and win people over. Hope I'm wrong and you're right, obviously.

I reckon she'll beat Sunak no matter how badly she does in the hustings. I can't see the Tory membership being won over by Sunak given their demographic.

I also think Johnson's far right backers like Rees Mogg, Dorries, Duncan Smith see her as their best hope of continuity from Boris. I can imagine that she is a bit of an iron lady / dominant individual behind the scenes but she doesn't back it up with intellect and therein lies the issue.

For this reason the cost of living crisis is through the roof right (9.6% inflation reported yesterday) unless Sunak and whoever his Chancellor is turn it around they'll get the blame. Hell Brown did turn it around and was actually pretty successful in leading the world in fixing things and its been shown coalition plans were slower than the speed of recovery than he was managing.

Labour are currently enjoying a 15 point lead in polls Sunak will get some bounce but as he's only got 2.5 years (at most) to solve issues. Whilst being a law breaker who avoided tax. Most people think he doesn't understand the common mans plight at all.

Either way they are picking Truss unless she implodes with them.

Remember elections are won on the middle ground (not the strong ~30% faithful) and by all polling they ******* hate the Tories right now. By not ousting Johnson in December they've really done irreparable damage to their current brand the question now is how much is permanent.

If the papers thought they had any chance with him they'd back him but they want Truss not because they think she can win but they can force through their agenda before she's gone.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I think Truss wins I'm just saying we're ****** either way.

With regards to the economy that can be spun, and has been, to be blamed on the pandemic. **** , you still hear some Tories saying 2008 was all labours fault and any Tory economic failure since then is Labours fault. People lap it up, and not just their base.

I think the economy is still important to middle voters but for the working class voters that Labour lost from Brexit aren't coming back on economic issues and, it seems, tend to be swayed on culture issues now.

If the Tories can win an election with Truss they could win it with Darth Vadrer with the Borg as their cabinet. resistance is futile.

Been posted before but will put it here again: https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog...s-they-are-the-party-of-big-deficit-spending/

I can't understand how anyone still thinks the Tories are the economically better party, they have been horrible for decades.

Also there is this paper: https://extranet.sioe.org/uploads/isnie2011/hessami.pdf

TL;DR there is a significant correlation between levels of corruption and whether a developed nations has a left or right leaning government in power (right wing ones being more corrupt). So worse on the economy? Check. More corrupt? Abundant for all to see the current Tory corruption. This idea they are economically prudent is pure fiction and their 2nd best bit of propaganda after convincing the working class that they are the party of the working man.

Whatever happens with Sunak he will always be the chancellor who has a Billionaire wife and didn't think tax loopholes are morally wrong.

I think next election will be a lower turnout and mainly Tory voters not voting and if Sunak wins I reckon the Boris voters will look at a fringe party

Although granted, she's more of a Harry Potter villain than actual Hitler

These are all good points but we live in an age where people get hoodwinked into thinking people like Fararge and Trump are men of the people.

Boris Johnson conspired to have a journalist beaten up, has written racist and homophobic stuff, has burnt £50 notes in front of homeless people and has lived a ridiculously privileged life. His middle name is de Pfeffel ffs. And yet people still think Starmer is the metropolitan elite.

Sunak's background isn't too far from the norm as far as the Tories are concerned so I don't think they'll worry about the optics too much as far as this is concerned and when push comes to shove the right wing press will have his back.
