A Political Thread pt. 2

As noted the other day Labour are litreally sleepwalking into government these guys just don't have bloody clue.

TBF they've been in charge 12 years, Labours reign was 13. Were definitely hitting the life expectancy of any government. Just nobody post 2019 would predict the implosion would quite this spectacular.

Latest YouGov polling shows Truss beating everyone else in the final two when the old white far right ahem I mean Tory membership get to vote. We are all doomed. She is as thick as mince and is being backed by a bunch of corrupt coonts.

If they don't knock her out today then she's going to be the next PM.

The Guardian has been writing some interesting things about the royals. Their exemptions from various laws, reports of wildlife abuse; is this summertime boredom or what?
if you don't provide links I won't believe you lol

Yep, it's a nonsense that the royal family are there for the love of doing their royal duty in representing the country.

Major financial, tax perks and exemptions from laws go with this privilege. That's why I began to objecting to the monarchy - above all else it enshrines the principle into British life of being "born into privilege."

But British cultural identity (backed up
By media like the Daily Fail and bbc) is shaped by them and now sadly I cannot foresee a time where we will ever become a republic.

Over to you Australia, NZ and Canada etc once Elizabeth pops her cloggs.

USA - do you want them to replace your POTUS? 😜

Badenoch out and Truss closing the gap on Mordaunt.

At least Truss will make a total arse of herself at PMQs. Starmer must be rubbing his hands at the prospect of facing her or Mordaunt.

I get that traditions don't die easily and I don't really imagine a reason for the monarch to go away, but I find it insane that they are still extending sovereign immunity to their private actions. You think that Parliament would stick up to them at some point.

We've had a few presidents try to extend executive privilege to their private lives; luckily the Supreme Court has told them to suck eggs haha.

BBC timed their posts well on the inflation live page.

I read, Labour says urgent action needed.
Next post, Conservatives say things will improve in 2023.

So urgent we'll just wait until next year.

Sadly they won't be going anywhere in my lifetime, if ever. People in Britain like to have "betters"'to look up to and what perfect embodiment can you have than the Royal Family. The French had the right idea.

I fear you're right. Our political system and FPTP means that it's a closed shop and the right wing Eton toffs will always be able to seize power even if Labour do get in every so often after the public have reached the end of their tether with the Tories. Even now they're able to engineer things in the leadership contest with backroom deals, skullduggery and dirty tricks so that their candidate gets in. Truss is just Johnson continuity but with a bit less law breaking.

Yeah totally agree. Re the Royals, people still actually ******* love them, it's so weird to me. But then they probably think I'm weird for loving Rugby I suppose. Each to their own I guess but I despair seeing those people line them streets during the jubilee in the hope they get a glimpse of the queen.

I just don't get it. I kinda understand people linking it to history and perhaps these are generally patriotic people who like to think of a time when Britain was an empire and how that makes them proud of the country and the royals which is bizarre to me but as i say, each to their own

Tighter than anyone expected both utterly shite candidates.
