[2015 Six Nations] England vs France (Round 5)

Was ok but we will see in world cup England will go to the kicking game and play **** rugby but win

Exciting, but a bad game of rugby.

Last week the grinding Irish went through 33 phases, and Wales told them to FO.

This week a bunch of children turned up at Twickenham and chucked it around to see what happened. Total lack of structure in defence, and defence is the bass line of rugby's music.

One thing for sure - neither France nor England will win the world cup because SH teams will eat them alive. If I'm wrong then I prefer league or American football, because they have rhythm.

In the broad view, I think we've just seen Thatcherism on the pitch, and I wonder what sort of deals were done in the background to serve up this nonsense and make the crowd go wild. Nigel Owens is a great ref, so I've no doubt about him - I suspect sponsors have got to the management.

Is the crack your smoking legal???

I'm not entirely sure Ford/JJ know how to do that. Just look at today Ford's kick was rubbish. Usually he's pretty good but this side looks great ball in hand I don't think we'll elect to run away from it.

Was this possibly 1 of greatest games in 6 Nations over past 20 years

In terms of entertainment? Probably yes. In terms of quality? I seriously doubt it. Kicking from hand was appalling from both teams, especially England. Defence was woeful, particularly from France, but England's not great either. Ball retention was poor, some of the passing seemed to be based on the hope that there might be a player in the general vicinity of where it was being chucked. Highly entertaining in a Barbarians sort of way, but if either team played like that against Aus or NZ in particular (which they wouldn't) then they would get hammered I'm afraid to say.

That has to be the worst post I have seen..............."Thatcherism" were you even born when she was in power (doubt her time in power was a big subject in Le Figaro or le Monde) and conspiracy theories aplenty?!! As my old school teacher said "Must do better"............................................

I disagree, it was like a shotgun as opposed to a rifle, we created lots of chances and lots of errors but ultimately if we are scoring more than we are conceding, then it is kind of working. I think all 3 winners from this week would have dismantled South Africa and Australia.

Possibly... it was sloppy as **** because they don't normally play like that.

If they did it wouldn't take very long for them to become significantly more proficient at it.

...also, cheers JJ!

Top try scorer and top English try scorer won me a nice little note.

Completely contrary to the the eejit comments by the haggis eating noob that seems to have joined us, I thought Nigel Owens was excellent today. His superb game management allowed the players to play the game, and the result was what you saw, the most open and flowing 6N game in decades.

I've been watching, first 5N then 6N, since I was a teenager; that's about 45 years. For much of that time, matches have been dour, uninspiring and sometimes downright boring. I don't recall ever seeing an England v France match as exciting as this.
Haven't been on this forum for a while, but I learned good stuff from your analysis.

Do you not see a problem with abandoning defence structure? I'm happy to see it as an alternative, but anyone expecting that to succeed at the WC is cuckoo. Both teams are clearly inferior to Wales and Ireland.

On a separate point, I think Browne is England's key player (wins every 50:50, takes every chance) and it was interesting to see his repeated "No, Sir" response to Owen's threat to send him off - he keeps breaking the law until he's threatened. He is a great player, but different from someone like McCaw, who's smart enough to never break the law.

FFS England, I'm all for good consistancy but you need that final 10% to win!

Before someone gets on Fords case again, I would just like to point out that Youngs is just as much (if not more) of an attacking luxury as Ford. Yes, he was brilliant on the front foot, but watch the first half again and count the number of hospital passes he gave Ford when he was under pressure. That said, I would much rather watch him and Ford than Wigglesworth and Farrell, so let the madness continue!

Come on, you're being unfair. England are more consistent than you give them credit for:

2011: 4 from 5
2012: 4 from 5
2013: 4 from 5
2014: 4 from 5
2015: 4 from 5

All crack should be legal.

Do you really see either of those teams beating Wales or Ireland, let alone NZ or SA?

I know it was a fun day of rugby, but whoop-whoop entertainment doesn't mean quality.

My Thatcherism comment is about abandoning rules so that the already powerful can crush the already weak.

I said they are consistant, what I'm moaning is they don't have that little bit extra to be the best. We NEED to be in a situation where we can win every game to win the world cup, England have not achieved that as they always bottle it at least once. Today we could have won it but we gifted the French 2 easy tries by being stupid. We missed countless opportunities against Scotland, we leaked unacceptable tries against Italy, we gave away a stupid yellow this game. It's unacceptable for a team that hopes to win the world cup to do this.

Err, one of those teams did beat Wales.
