[2015 RWC] Pool C: New Zealand vs. Namibia (24/09/2015)

So lads, surprised no one brought this up yet. Sam Cane as captain. I guess he's the main man once Richie is gone.. I suspect Read will be captain next year, but once he's done, it'll likely be Sam. Unless they don't even see captain material in Read?

Yeah I gave it a small mention on a previous page about Cane's captaincy :) I always knew he was McCaw's understudy after the World Cup in terms of the 7 shirt, but I figured Read was the understudy for the captaincy like you mentioned. Read has the age and life experience for the captaincy, and in my opinion could get in the referee's ear in the same way McCaw does. Like McCaw, Read is a very smart bloke and I'd value what he had to say. Cane is smart too, but he's only 23, less experience, and I'd categorize him as more of a 'follow me' type of leader, who physically gets on with it . That's not to say he can't acquire more experience and the ability to speak up. I'm beting Cane will be a future captain, just not sure if it'll be directly after the WC.

man that backline of the AB scares me... esp those 2 centres!!! man!!! they are freaks of nature!!!

i think slade and barrett will swop positions now and again during the game...

hopefully those centres will secure the 5 points for us :)

The AB coaches are spinning a few tales it sounds.

Messam out with a calf injury, and (the "injured") Kaino in to the starting line up. Kinda strange, but that's the latest.

I'm not sure about that. What makes you think he has jumped ahead of Read in the pecking order?

I think Shag was bigging up Cane so he doesn't do a runner after the RWC when we need a big sniffer to help us get over the loss of the great man.
Kieran Read is the leader in waiting, no question.

Thats what I though, but I assumed Kiwi must have heard something different. Perhaps from Hansen? Unless otherwise stated I would have no reason to believe that Read is not still the AB vice captain, and next in line after Richie. I suspect what has happened here is that the team needs an on-field captain and with Read being rested, someone had to do the job. That person is Cane but that by no means ensures he has jumped Read in the pecking order.

That being said, I stand to be corrected by Kiwi if he has heard differently.

The prospect of SBW & Fekitoa in midfield is nothing short of mouthwatering!!

Also, what a strong bench; I'm betting there are more test caps on the bench than there are in the starting XV

PS: if you want to get a good indication of just how strong the NZ bench is in this RWC, have a look at this starting XV from the players left behind

1. Moody
2. Elliot
3. Laulaua
4. Broadhurst
5. L Whitelock
6. Luatua
7. A Savea
8. A Ioane

9. Ellis
10. Sopoaga
12. Ngatai
13. Moala
11. Piutau
14 Jane
15 Dagg

Then you've got these recent All Blacks

Webber
Pulu
Parsons
Harris
Tuipolotu
Toomaga-Allen
Halai
Saili
Crotty
Taylor
Todd
Thrush

and of course Cruden who is injured

Read then Cane.
Just like Prince William Sam Cane must wait his turn.

The sad part is a fit cruden would never had made it to the World Cup. Because he is not versatile . Colin slade would have been picked ahead of him !!

NAMIBIA: Johan Tromp, David Philander, JC Greyling, Johan Deysel, Conrad Marais, Theuns Kotze, Eugene Jantjies, Leneve Damens, Tinus du Plessis, Jacques Burger (captain), Pieter-Jan van Lill, Tjiuee Uanivi, Johannes Coetzee, Torsten van Jaarsveld, Jaco Engels. Reserves: Louis van der Westhuizen, Casper Viviers, Raoul Larson, Renaldo Bothma, Janco Venter, Rohan Kitshoff, Eneill Buitendag, Chrysander Botha.[/QUOTE]

I've not seen the name Greyling on a team sheet for many a year.
Is anyone old enough to remember the Springbok flanker Piet Greyling, a great player from way back?

Wife just asked if Namibia had a hooker.....after answering of course I discovered she meant haka...

All Namibian players offside from that kick off by a long way. Also should have been 5m scrum from charge down. Not massivr things in this game but pretty average officiating.

And...try to Fekitoa!

Uhhh another ridiculous kickoff. Blind touch judges.
