[2015 RWC] Pool A: England vs. Wales (26/09/2015)

Anyone know what time tomorrow this nightmare becomes a reality?

"Apparently Twelvetrees has been put on standby..."

Might even hold of naming the team if it's touch and go!

Jake Ball's beard has yet again been stealing all the attention in the pre-match build-up

I'm lost and confused, are the Twelvetrees on standby and Goode for Ford things just trolling?

Please, my mental state depends on an honest answer.

Ford will be on bench and I have a feeling Nowell will have the 23 shirt.

If Goode has the 23 shirt, all hope is gone.

No idea about 36.

Okay so been giving a bit more thought to the likely selection changes.

Conclusion is that of the three in the backs 2 make sense.

With the breakdown being a potential issue Burgess will provide go forward ball and better presentation than anyone else we have (Billy is also strong in this aspect). Pretty hard to turnover. He'll also provide some more breakdown work from his experience as a 6. And...he'll relish the confrontation with roberts.

Farrell is in good form, and provides a steadier, more pack oriented 10. I know the Ford fans will pile into me here but i think its a really balanced call against warburton and tipuric.

The choice at 13 is the one that doesn't make much sense. Barritt is likely to be a tackler and not much else. And Farrell more than Ford needs alternative playmakers on the field. Slade is a good defender - quicker than BB and could help our back 3, probably the best part of our attack right now, to get into space.

I know it was only a warm up, but the 10/12/13 play v France at Twickers was some of the best I've seen from us, and that includes the 6N, which was mostly about individual brilliance.

All in all I'm feeling more confident than this time yesterday. Solid set piece and winning the collisions and the breakdown won't be as much of an issue.

Reallt looking forward to this now.

Ok guys. Deep breaths.

Remember - it all depends on the forwards. This ludicrous backline will only come into play after the forwards have won or lost the game, and the fitness of Samson Lee/perennial lack of jumpers gives us a good shot there if nothing else. They just need to up their game.

What if this is all a ploy and JJ is fit? Eh?

Speaking truth as ever.

He does honestly I'm more worried about next week where a flash of brilliance could be the difference between the sides.

We should still beat a depleted Welsh side.

Believe me, I'm struggling very hard to retain my optimism and balance here. Part of me wants bad things to happen so that unit is never seen again - it's a crime against everything attractive about rugby. It's still totally doable though, even if I am tempted to gamble on what seems like a very generous 10/3 on Wales.

The thing that gets me most at the moment is it feels like Lancaster has ripped all his plans up at the last moment and thrown something totally new out. Whatever happens, his competence doesn't look great right now.

The vision of playing "attractive" rugby is what cost us the 1995 final and should not even be mentioned in connection with an England side at a RWC!!

In 1995, England played "their game" right the way through but, after publicly being bashed for their winning formula, they changed it for the final and Carling et all were duly bashed!!

Winning the RWC is not about how you play, it is about how you get enough points on the board to win!!

Very few supporters will care about how their team won come 31st October as long as they win!!
