[2014 TRC] Argentina v New Zealand in La Plata (27/09/2014)

Aaaah, there was no need to roll the ball away at that ruck - if they'd have kept hold then who knows, instead they lose possession and it's kicked 50 down field!

WTF was that from Barrett? He hasn't had a great game so far. Mealamu has been brilliant though....

How are Argentina ranked 12th?
Look more like a top 8 team imo.

We'll see at the WC next year that they are probably in the top 6 by the end of the tournament these guys game just suits WC rugby. Maybe even higher if teams like Australia fall over.

Well Argentina should make the quarters at least and Aussie are in the pool of death.

They don't really get much chance to improve their rankings - most of their games are against the Tri Nations sides, which won't be getting them any rankings points, when they tour Europe they go up against one or 2 top 5/6 sides, then maybe get a win or two against Italy Scotland, and then when teams tour Argentina during the summer they put out weakened sides as they need to preserve their best players for the 4N, and they don't particularly have the depth (in terms of pro-players, anyway. A lot of the amateur/semi-pro players they put out are very talented, but 80mins against full pros and the conditioning starts to tell).

I can see this starting to change, now though. While they're not going to be whitewashing the 4N any time soon, they'll start picking up a win or two and the tours to Europe in November are going to be very interesting. In previous years you always knew Argentina would put up a fight, but you'd expect a win against them - not any more. Can see them getting a few scalps in the near future.

HT. Good game so far. Both sides have had plenty of chances to score, but only the AB's have taken any. Argentina are looking good with ball in hand, as are the AB's on the counter-attack. It will be interesting to see whether Argentina can keep it up for 80 minutes, or whether they fade later in the match.

Couple of our old guys are having great games. McCaw and Mealamu have been excellent so far. And I am warming up to this Dagg / Smith partnership.

The dropping may have been enough to wake Dagg up.... I still dont like his playing style... everything about it is still lazy imo. But thats just him I suspect.

This match is changing my opinion also.... I would of thought we'd be better off with Kahui back next year.... now im not so sure. Will still be good to have Kahui on the bench of course.

Will be able to tell more if its the same back 3 against SA next week. If Ben Smith goes well on the wing it could be an option... if not he needs to go back to full back and Dagg can **** off or whatever.

No one think the tackle off the ball earlier on the scrum half deserved a yellow ? It was pretty cynical if you ask me ......

Australia fall over next year??? Henry Speight, David Pocock, James O'Connor... I don't think so

Haha its not the backs thats the problem. Watch the 2011 game NZ vs Aus. David Pocock was a total non factor. Australias forwards are simply not good enough and they aint going to fix that between now and next year! The Irish would love to play them again im sure.

You must read me more often in the forum, I've always said that the first row is the main problem of Australia. I just don't think that Argentina can beat Australia next year, they have a better second row too. We currently have only Lavanini in that position.
