2012 IRB Junior World Championship

As I mentioned before, NZ have used basically the same tactic of rotating their squad throughout the pool stage (no matter who they have played) in almost every tournament, and it has been pretty successful thus far! I don't see it as disrespect, but rather a tactic that has served them very well in the past, so I can see why it has been persisted with.

In any case I honestly don't think picking a top team versus Wales would have made a huge difference to the result! The likes of Emery and Kerosema (who I'd consider as definites in the top team) would not have been able to make an impact playing in backs anyway. Indeed probably the best player on the park (along with Taufua) was Nathan Harris, who I would have though was definitely a 'B' team player before this match (not so sure about that now!). Out of curiosity, which of the NZ players that missed out do you think could have made a big difference?

Head to head is the first criteria used for ranking teams within pools (if two team are tied on points)

Pool B is certainly very interesting - there is the potential for Ireland, South Africa, and England to all finish on 10 points. You are right that Ireland needs South Africa to win, but you don't want them getting a bonus point for 4 tries (though if the weather remains the same it is probably unlikely!).

I'm no expert and I have little knowledge as to the relative strengths of the NZ players. Whether Emery or Keresoma would have changed the game, well I do not know. I just think it showed disrespect and perhaps Penny thought the game would be a walkover. With the competition structured in such a way that topping your pool is crucial, it makes sense to pick your best team for your toughest pool game.

That is certainly a fair enough opinion. Fortunately this loss shouldn't cost us at all, as we are in a strong position to qualify for the semis (though we will need to play much better against Fiji).

Pool B is interesting.

I'm pretty sure Ireland will finish the pool with 10 points after they will get a BP victory over Italy. Now let's just presume that South Africa will defeat England without TBP but England gets a LBP. Then all three teams would have 10 points.

Ireland would be above South Africa, England would be above Ireland and South Africa would be above England. Head to head is not gonna cut it then. So then would it be down to tries scored or something else?

Of course, if England would win they'll go through and if South Africa wins with a BP they'll go through. If South Africa would win without a BP and England wouldn't score a LBP, then Ireland will go through. And then of course there's still the possibility that both South Africa and England finish with 11 points. South Africa would go through after defeating England and England would lose out to New Zealand and France in the race for best second placed team.

Watched a bit of the Ireland England match.

Despite the result, I have to commend the players on both sides for some quite fantastic ball handling in such obviously abysmal conditions.

I don't think this team will put enough on Italy to finish top. Although I'm not certain of what exactly is required can someone explain it? Good the guys are getting a rest can't have them wrecked and it's not good for the other players. Would you say Carty or McGrath will kick?

Our genuine big ginger 8 isn't a bad player at all.
Ospreys new 8 in a season or so?

Daniel Thomas, class player, but has Tipuric and Warburton ahead of him. A long way from Martyn Williams and... Robin Sowden-Taylor to fight for the openside position.

I like to think this BG8 isn't to bad either how genuine I am is another matter.

Bit late after the Wales v NZ game but hopefully next year Prydie will have a good season at the dragons (he seemed to play well and has got a good kick tbh) and Morgan gets more oppertunities at the Ospreys as in a string of starts (harsh to drop biggar but give morgan a crack at it) or even let him come on 20-30 mins left in a string of games as tbf he needs more gametime at the ospreys to see if he'll make it fully at regional level and full international.

Wasn't having a go, just saying I like our backrow. ;)
You are unknown size, unknown hair colour prop though.

I know don't worry. I'm 6' 110kg (mainly muscle) and black haired 1/3 is true guess which one.:D

That's not really part of it but yeah that's true for me as for many people.

You are 6'7" and 170lbs, bald, and play scrum half.
Police should hire me for profiling.
