Wales v England

Wales won a Grand Slam, scoring more tries than any other team in the process, with Hook at 10. I want to see him given a shot at it before the World Cup, anyway.

While we're gettnig carried away with this spectacular backline, how about trying Stoddart at 15 against Italy as he's got a sharper counter-attacking game than Byrne? TRIESTRIESTRIESTRIES!!!

I'l calm down now.

I have heard that Gatland has little to do with shifting Hook to 10. More Holley than anyone.

Morgan "Gap" Stoddart? God no! Daniel Evans over him, if we have to pick turks.

Disagree. Stephen Jones does very little in the way of creativity and hardly gets the backs moving like Hook can. I'd say he has had plenty of bad games. Throwing the interception against England this year must count for something.

I think that Hook has about a 25% chance of getting the 10 spot for Wales. Jones plays great there and never has a bad game.

What about Hook's interception pass against South Africa?

I remember it. He also threw an interception against France. I was responding to the statement of Stephen Jones never having a bad game.

I only suggested Hook at 10 cuz it looks like Steve could be out of the England game. Otherwise stick him on the bench.

Biggar must be above both in Interception Passes thrown- One on debut against Canada, then another against Samoa, and one against Fiji that didn't result in a try, thankfully. And that's before you go into Ospreys games as well...

Biggar had a decent game today, so no doubt it will be the usual "Biggar for Wales" calls that seem to happen all too often.

He was never MOTM though - Ryan Jones was bloody fantastic!

I hope Biggar starts this match.
He's been overlooked for far too long, and is sure to light up the international scene.

Yours sincerely

Well, we got to see Hook at 10 for 20 odd minutes against the Scarlets. I thought he looked like a player transformed as soon as he moved infield. I forgot just how creative he is when he get's the ball in his hands so often, and is the one allowed to call the shots. Granted he was playing against tired and beaten opposition by that point, but he did more in that 20min than I've seen him do all season. I wanna see him start at 10.

Wales to win this, just. It will kick start our campaign and give us the momentum to go on and win the Six Nations

Cole v Jones (I know technically he'll be up against Gethin but they're the opposite numbers)
Lawes v Davies
Ashton v Halfpenny
Youngs v Philips
Cueto v Williams (if he's back)
Croft (if he's back) v Lydiate
Foden v Byrne
Sheridan v Jenkins (in the loose, no contest in the scrum)

Going to be some interesting matchups
Should be a cracking match

Shane Williams should be back, same with Byrne (not that Byrne should be playing)
If North could improve his tackling, I'd like to see 11 Williams, 14 North, 15 Halfpenny.
Leigh has the pace and strength needed by a fullback, and his boot certainly helps.

Lydiate's injury isn't as bad as thought, and shouldn't rule him out of this match.

There were some interesting names mentioned at the Wales training event last week. Nicky Robinson, Rhys Priestland, Ken Owens, Josh Turnbull, Dan Lydiate, Toby Faletau, Will Harries and Luke Charteris (!?!)

Yeah you're right there Draggs, we are a bit all or nothing, but I do think this year is our year, imagine the momentum we'd have going into the World Cup as Six Nations Champs. Out of the names you've mentioned above Nicky Robinson is the only strange one, as he hasn't really had a look in for a long long time and although he changed my opinion of him with the way he played in his last season with the Blues I still don't think he is good enough for Wales and I think we have far more better options than him. I think Dan Lydiate has now made the one flank his own and is now Wales' first choice in that position. I'd love to see Luke Charteris given more of a chance because although he has his critics he is a very good player and could be good for Wales given more of an opportunity. As for Will Harries he will only better and despite the depth we have on the wing in Wales I think he has a big future as a kind of Shane Williams player that are quite rare these days. All the others mentioned - I think we will slowly see them filtered through into the Welsh set-up over the next few years as some of our more senior players retire.

Charteris needs to up his game massively to get back into contention for a place in the matchday 22. Bradley Davies and Alun-Wyn Jones are out in front as being our best locks, but behind them there's Ian Evans who's slowly getting back to some kind of form and Ryan Jones who's future looks set to be at lock. Charteris has been unlucky with injuries this past year or so, and like Evans he's taking some time to fully recover, but unlike Evans, he's never shown his full potential on the international stage.

Unfortunately apart from Lydiate and possibly Faletau, most of the Dragons players have shown serious weaknesses to their games this season, and that's going to harm their chances of being involved with Wales in the 6 nations and WC. Brew probably deserves another chance, but I'm a little concerned that he'll ultimately not be up to the task of international rugby, as I am with Fussell. Gavin Thomas fits squarely into this bracket imo, great regional player who simply cannot make the step up necessary. Tovey and Harries are two players I really like, but both have shown massive defensive defficiencies this season, Tovey's boot has also let him down in the last few games. Harries really needs to be playing on the wing though, playing fullback really isn't helping his Welsh prospects, because he's blatantly not equipped for the role, in the same way that Shane wouldn't be! Hurry back Martyn Thomas.

On current form, I'd therefore only pick 2 or 3 Dragons players to be involved with the Welsh squad, Lydiate, Faletau and possibly Brew depending on Shane and North's fitness and the form of Stoddard and Tom James.
