Wales v England

Well in that case my England team would be:

Payne
Chuter
White
Borthwick
Deacon
Moody
Worsley
Haskell
Care
Goode
Varndell
Hape
Banahan
Sackey
Balshaw

I think Johnson would approve.

Wait, are you speaking as Declan? Kidney would never select those players. None of them played for him with Munster.

Ken Owens is out for five weeks and will miss this game and be unable to sit on the bench for the Scarlets' big European fixtures. Hibbard is a definate, he's been outstanding lately.

I'd go with Davies over Roberts at the moment, purely on form. Yes, Roberts can bash it up, but Davies offers an all-round attacking threat, plus something of a kicking game, and both are simuarly great in defence.

The less Davies kicks the better imo. His boot is inconsistent as shown in the game v Edinburgh where he kicked one out on the full and his other clearance wasn't great either. In his first couple of Welsh caps he also tried little grubbers, one of which resulted in a try for the opposition. Let the likes of Stephen Jones, Hook, Halfpenny and Byrn kick. I'd also say that Roberts probably has a better and more consistent boot because he used to be a fullback.

Considering Hook's form, I'd be tempted to go for a Roberts, Davies midfield. It worked well in the second test out in NZ. It might lack a bit of flair, but Davies has shown plenty of skill this season. Rock solid defense too!

I think Davies might have to make do with a bench spot, but I want to see a good 20+ minutes, not some 5mins at the end of the game. Maybe a half each could work well?

This actually makes a lot of sense,
On current form Hook doesn't deserve to be 12 or 13 for Wales, however his form when he's played at 10 does warrant the 21 shirt. Stick him on the bench and bring him on for Jones if he starts lagging/you want a different style of play
Obviously this should only be done against Scotland/Italy/Ireland/France, and Dan Biggar should start against England

Hook plays a blinder against England every single year- MOTM in '07 & '08 and a superb individual try in '10. I would not drop him.

I don't want to see Davies kick either, but he seems to have a big boot (Mostly due to his leg strength) more than an actual good kick.

no way it's going to be france that win it again but wales do have a good chance

Agreed on both points. I'm just glad we now have the depth to debate over center selections. The only way I would have Roberts and Davies in midfield is if Hook was at 10. He would play better with them than Jones.

Interesting comment on Biggar there, Olyy.

Should be interesting to see what England does now that a lot of their top players are out of the 6N.

We'll lose a bit of grunt around the park with Lawes out, he's got a very high workrate
Lineout/Scrum should be pretty much unchanged, Deacon, though useless in most things, can push in a scrum, and jump when told to by Palmer
The rest of the squad is unchanged from the AIs (though I do dearly wish that they'd've changed the centres :( - Hopefully Hape will continue improving, as he did look better towards the end of the AIs, still don't think he should be in there though, same with Tindall)

Now that the squad's released I think our team will be:

Sheridan
Hartley
Cole
Shaw
Palmer
Croft (Haskell if still injured)
Moody
Easter
Youngs
Flood
Cueto
Hape
Tindall
Ashton
Foden

Thompson
Wilson
Deacon
Haskell (Worsley if Haskell is starting, don't think Crofts replacement will feature in this match, more likely to be in the Italian one, not being named straight off the bat and all)
Care
Wilkinson
Armitage

Lawes has World Cup prospects - Mallinder

England manager Martin Johnson believes Northampton lock Courtney Lawes could return from a knee injury before the end of the Six Nations.
Lawes, 21, suffered ligament damage in Saturday's loss to Leicester and Saints fear he will be out for three months.
But Johnson said: "It may be 10 weeks but it is probably going to be eight or nine. Things can change week by week."
England's Six Nations campaign starts against Wales on 4 February and ends with a trip to Ireland on 19 March.
Johnson has kept Lawes in his 33-man elite squad and is hopeful that both he and Leicester flanker Tom Croft, who is recovering from a fractured shoulder blade, could feature in the Six Nations campaign.

I hope England/Saints take the conservative route and do not rush him back

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> "Tom and Courtney both have a chance of playing rugby by the end of the tournament," said Johnson.
"Tom is making good progress with the Leicester medics and our guys and it is the same with Courtney, so they are both week-to-week and hopefully they will be fitter sooner rather than later and make the end of the tournament."
Replacements for Lawes and Croft are due to be announced before the end of January, with former captain Steve Borthwick and Northampton flanker Tom Wood possible candidates.
Borthwick has not played for England since suffering a knee injury while captaining the side against Scotland in the 15-15 draw in March.
Lawes came on as a replacement in that match against Scotland at Murrayfield and took the chance to impress in Borthwick's absence on the team's summer tour down under.

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> After starring in the 21-20 win over Australia in Sydney last June, Lawes was named England's man of the series after impressive displays in the autumn's Test matches.
His rapid promotion to England's starting line-up followed a string of powerful ball-carrying showings for the Saints, including when he overshadowed second row pairing Paul O'Connell and Donncha O'Callaghan in their 31-27 win over Munster in October 2009.
Lawes' club and international team-mate Ben Foden has tipped him to come back stronger than ever.
"He's a strong character and a young guy," said Foden. "Having had such a good autumn series, he'll be very disappointed not to be involved but he'll bounce back and hopefully the time in the gym will be spent well and he'll come back bigger and stronger than ever.
"He's got to get himself right first and foremost. He seems to be in quite good spirits. Injuries come and go in rugby."

Replacing Lawes with Borthwick....It's like losing a wallet full of £50s, and finding a dog **** covered in maggots and being forced to eat it

That happened to me in Croyden once.
