Tri Nations: Wallabies - All Blacks @ Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane (27-8-2011, 10:05GMT)

Magnificent!!

The Wallies was just too good for the full strength All Black side on the night. The Wallies got the good start and wethered the anticipated All Black storm well.

Why is everyone talking about Cooper?...WILL GENIA is the man. He's just so dangerous. Du Preez was the man at 9 two years back then last year was Piri and this year so far looks like Genias year. ABs and every other team should be careful around the fringes of the ruck because Genia doesnt even look at the hole opening up but he knows its there and he will slice.

Good stuff.

Because they're talking about him for the wrong reasons. Genia was magnificent. Australia are in a world of trouble if they loose him.

great to see another team do something dirty to nz now they know how we felt after what that thug tana did to brian and they got away with it so i hope quade does. oh and btw nz stop being sore loosers!

The ABs are in a world of trouble if they lose Carter. Remember 2007? With a player of that quality it's not something you can really plan for, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I think the point about Cooper is not the McCaw aggro, but that his flakiness will cost Oz big time in the next month.

Agreed Genia is brilliant, Cooper is equally brilliant when he wants to be, My only concern with Genia is the constant box kicking tends to get predictable and a few times there last night it went wrong as he got a tad lackadaisical with it and it could have turned much more sour.

No, I think the talk on this thread has everything to do with him being a prat.

I know graham henry wont allow it or tell the players to do it but NZ really need to ATTACK genia and cooper and beat them up physically and "put them in their place" particularly cooper. I'll never forget a game between the highlanders and brumbies way back when and the brumbies totally beat the crap out of kelleher who was on form at the time and really put him off the game and won well. I hope the AB's are holding back and start to bring that sort of mongrel out at the WC. But this coaching staff just dont have it in them i reckon.

I really dont think that was nz's top line up. Tony woodcock is poorly out of form (may or maynot come right with a couple more games) and needs to be benched by wyatt, Cowan needs to start, kano will be back, thompson will be dropped off the bench for vito, guildford for dagg or toeava or mills on bench as he also covers MANY positions. DAGG HAS TO START. With SBW on the bench. Read not getting much game time and now slightly injured is a huge concern he is a key player.

Hopefully the wallabies have given them a reminder of what they might face in a the crucial games at the WC. The FRENCH in particular would of taken alot of intrest in the physical make up of the aussie forwards last night.

I would say that would have more to do with the refs unwillingness to ping the AB's for being offside.

Forgot to mention the best part about this game.. no Marshall in commentary!! Grant Fox is so much better as the second commentator IMO so it was good to see him there. He knows when to shut up...

They did that Auckland. Genia and Cooper looked liked nothing when they had all the pressure put on them. Cooper had more brain lapses than Stephen Donald.

I think the All Blacks can take heart in the fact that if they face the Wallabies again it will be at the one place in the world that is considered the fortress of New Zealand rugby.

^ i see you were listening to that crazy biast aussie commentary the way they chirped on about the AB's being offside for a good couple of minutes was a disgrace. Teams have been defending like that for atleast the last 5 years or more. Nobody really goes back behind the last feet.

Nick Evans was the form 10 in NZ at that time. He was ripped off.
QC seems to try to avoid getting tackled and getting caught at the bottom of the ruck as much as possible. Strange mindset for a rugby player. Yep one day those flick passes will cost us a game.

Zac Guildford is like the retarded redheaded inbred stepsister of Doug Howlett.

That was a awesome game i got to give it up to the Wallabies great display.

The A'Bs looked some tired and the backline attack was M.I.A for most of the game. The OZ midfield contained Nonu and Smith all night but didn't do much attacking themselves.
The Wallabies looked hungry and wanted the win more.

All Blacks need Ali Williams in the starting XV as he brings the mongrel the tight five need and really missed Kaino,Thomsom sucked 2 weeks in a row.

Guilford had a night to forget...Hosea Gear must be wondering WTF i lost my place to him...

Dagg needed to get on at halftime,Carter looked like Quade when he was in Auckland RUBBISH or mybe he didn't want to get hurt before the W.C.

All Blacks Man up especially Carter,Thomson,Whitelock and Guilford...Whitelock is great he just aren't a Mongrel like Williams/Hoeata and Thomson "Mr You Can't See Me" speaks for himself.

Thanks Aussie for giving the AB's a major wake up call.

What do you call 15 guys sitting around the TV watching the Rugby World Cup final?
The All Blacks

What's the difference between Graham Henry and Viagra?
At least Viagra gives you a semi.

Graham Henry gets handed a mobile phone and is told "This is Wayne Barnes's phone"
Henry asks "How did you know?"
"It has 15 missed calls" comes the reply

Why did Graham Henry go to a ball dressed as a pumpkin?
Because he hoped when the clock struck midnight he would turn into a coach.

Why did the man go to an Adidas store and try to buy condoms?
He was too embarrassed to ask for an All Black jersey.

At the end of the day it was mental thing. The Wallabies were mentally on the edge for most the game than the All Blacks. Both teams had lapses but the All Blacks had multiple and for longer periods. It seemed like the All Blacks as a unit didnt take last weeks loss seriously. They had expected things to be magically because their top line had been selected. They had become complacent. Henry's favourite word.

I think any criticism of Adam Thompson is a bit harsh. Him and Reid are my 2 favourite kiwi players and both got injured at the same time. You could see thompson had to use that injured left arm to pull samo down but didnt have the strength to hold on with it. Any other day I know Samo would not have got past Thompson. Also the ref barnes initially got in thompsons way and blinded him momentarily of the line samo was running. Barnes seemed to always be getting in everyones way this game.

At least there were no match winning foward passes to not call.

Interesting match. I wasn't actually too worried about the loss (which is strange, as I usually can't stand the AB's losing). While I would undoubtedly have preferred we won, in some ways it is a good thing, as the public in general will be a far more realistic about the AB's chances at he RWC - they still deserve to be favourites, but the public should now understand that they can be beaten. Overall I thought Australia was much better than they were at Eden Park, and their attack was far more direct - it was certainly harder for the AB's defence when Cooper was running at them rather than straight across the field. At half time I had a suspicion that the AB's would make a come back - when they did I was surprised that the Aussies themselves fought back; I'm sure Australia will take a lot out of that. There were certainly a few worrying aspects of the game for the AB's, but there were some positives too.

Negatives:
- The injuries to Read and Thomson. Read's injury is particularly worrying as he is a key part of the team. Hopefully neither injury is too serious. I think again this game showed how important Jerome Kaino is to the AB's - his physical play was really missed.
- Piri Weepu's game. Weepu played ok - he made a couple of little breaks, but he was very slow getting to the breakdown at time. I think he is definately better suited to the role of an impact player, with Jimmy Cowan starting. Incidentally I though Andy Ellis added some energy when he came on; I was a bit worried about him at the start of the season, but he has been pretty solid so far in the chances he got.
- The outside backs. Zac Guildford in particular had a poor - I think he lost the ball three times that I counted (two in contact and one high ball). His defence was pretty good, and he seemed to have a big work-rate, but it is a big worry that the only two poor games I can recall him having this season have been the two biggest games of the year (the Tri-nations decider and the Super Rugby final). Muliaina didn't have a particularly strong game either (though he did well to prevent one try on the line). I expected him to have a huge game with Dagg putting pressure on him, but he was very quiet. Jane was quiet (as the ball didn't really go his way), but didn't make any mistakes.

Positives:
- Tony Woodcock. I thought Woodcock made a huge step-up from last week. His work-rate was impressive, he made a number or runs, plenty of tackles, and his scrummaging was solid. He still has a wee way to go, but I'm certainly not as worried about him as I was leading into this match.
- Ali Williams. Williams was someone who I was really worried about, but he had a huge game from the bench. His aerial work was great (as it always is), but he also ran really well with the ball (and importantly didn't drop the ball!). It will be interesting to see who out of Williams and Whitelock parter Thorn (who himself had a strong game) in the opening game vs Tonga.
- Victor Vito. Despite a couple of early handling issues I though Vito had a great game. He made a couple of big hits, and was powerful with ball in hand. Certainly his best game as an All Black, and seemed to justify his inclusion in the RWC over Messem (well so far at least).
- Midfield combo - Class.

There were a number of standouts for Australia. Pocock was brilliant (as he usually is), and Samo was just phenomenal. Samo's try was exceptional, and there was another run where he broke the tackles of both Carter and McCaw. I think he has assured himself the Wallabies number 8 jersey for the RWC. Genia was again impressive - he is very good at using the ref to slightly obstruct the AB's players! Faingaa was good at centre (maybe pushing McCabe for the 12 jersey) and AAC really impressed me on the wing with his defence - for some reason he always seems to play his best rugby against the AB's.
