Transfers rumours

There's a story about Whitten in the News Letter, might copypasta it in a while if I can be arsed. Also says Faloon might be off.

http://www.newsletter.co.uk/sport/rugby/exeter-to-swoop-for-ulster-s-whitten-1-3599582 - journo in question is a major 'hurl **** at the wall' merchant mind

Selim - Both played Ireland U20s two years in a row, Annett as captain for part of one and all of the other, both have plenty of potential but potential weak points.

McKinney is as noted, a kicking fly-half with good distribution; not a runner, and not very big either, I haven't seen him shirk defensive duties but this would be a definite step up for him in terms of holding up. I have to admit to not massively rating him myself, but that's probably based off watching him get crap from his scrum-half with a bosh centre outside, doesn't help.

Annett is a natural leader, generally very good in the set-piece (in the best Ulster tradition he sometimes wobbles all over the place at the line-out before returning to being dead-eye) and very mobile and active around the pack - he played a lot of back-row for his school. The only worry is his size, he'll never be a major tight carrier, but providing he makes his tackles and is difficult to shift out of rucks he'll be fine, and possibly very good as he gains experience.

I'm slightly surprised we're letting them go, but we have youngsters pulling up trees at prodigious rates so I guess someone's gotta go; I fully expect us to invite Annett back in a couple of seasons if it goes well, and wouldn't rule out McKinney either (although probably not, he's the 3rd out of 3 for our young fly-halves imo).

The Scotsman hinting that as a result of Rory Lawson's operation, Mike Blair may be replacing him next season at Glaws, with both players out of contract.

Hardly a like for like swap is it?

he isn't going to move to Gloucester, they have Burns and are using up their budget on Cowan I've read

don't know about London Irish though, I think he should finish his career with the Scarlets

You say he isn't ... it's not what I have heard ;)

Why would they sign Cowan? His form has simply been awful.

Because the vast majority of NH clubs are absolutely retarded. He's played for the All Blacks, therefore he must be amazing. Nevermind that scrum half has been their weakest position since Byron Kelleher went to Toulouse and that Cowan has been muck lately.

Ok fine ... Don't think I'll get through to you but for others interested, I have heard it from a good source that interest has been expressed.

what do you mean "by get through", I'm not denying there has been contact made I'm just saying that right now any chance of him moving to Gloucester is gone

In your opinion that is. Have it on good source that both clubs within the last week have been in contact, both are keen for Jones to move there next season therefore there is a chance of a move.

Maybe because Parisse is away with Italy quite a lot? To be fair they don't have that much depth in the backrow, Rabadan is a pretty average player. Chabal can also play a lot of positions so hes not that bad a signing surely

Is Lyons not there to cover for Parisse or is he playing 6/7 still when he is away? Seems a waste of money to get Chabal.

Lyons has been pretty rubbish for Stade, I'd have Chabal over him any day.

It's also worth mentioning that he'll put bums on seats and sell jerseys as well.

Aye - didn't Stade almost go under over the summer?
Any help they can get to fill seats and sell merch will be a help, and the French public love the Caveman.

I think Chabal wants to stay in Paris (left Sale to go to Paris, specifically), and I doubt there were many other offers around as his form hasn't been dazzling, so they might have got him for a reasonably rate (or at least a bit less than the million euro contract he signed for Metro)
