Transfers rumours

Isn't the Premiership ruling that teams are not allowed any more than 2 "foreign" players on the pitch at any one time, where "foreign" excludes anyone in the EU? Wouldn't that mean Bath would be able to pick two from Flouw, Vermeulen and Genia at any one time, but not all three? Would also mean that Agulla, Fa'osiliva, Houston and Orlandi wouldn't have a chance of making a normal XV?

James is leaving next season - big chunk of cap space.
Good call imo. He's waning.

No idea how much Burgess is on. It's probably very similar to what he was on at Souths.
The only figure I have for that is £160k - I'd imagine he's probably on a bit more than that, so maybe around £200k? (bearing in mind he'll be getting more money when he plays for England, and he's got potentially more lucrative sponsorships over here).
His transfer fee was thought to be around £500k though.

The "foreign" player rule does forbid any more than 2 foreign players in the squad.
That doesn't include Kolpak players though - so there are actually very few countries which are excluded that are likely to produce rugby players.
If you're from Europe or the Commonwealth you're probably not classed as "foreign", although you obviously don't count towards the EQP numbers.

In rugby, the Kolpak ruling has allowed teams to sign many players from Figi, Tonga and Samoa, all of which are also ACP countries. Many clubs have also signed South African players under Kolpak

Leicester and bath are definitely making the most if the salary cap it seems for once it's not sarries haha

This is what happens when politics interfere with sport.

TBF I expect in Etzebeth and Alberts' cases it's more the money though you can argue our politicians are the main reason the Rand is taking a knock every day and we can't compete so.. I guess I agree with you wholeheartedly!

Yeah, I'm just making the point that it's Midi-Olympique saying it... he's literally just buying the magazine and translating their news section into English.

SARU might as well relocate their offices to Europe now.

well that would indeed make things a hell lot more practical to tell you the truth, I mean looking at.....ohhh.........you're being sarcastic. Sorry.
Yeah but seriously though, right now it's getting ridiculous. Etzebeth is a 23yo baby, he was a Bok starting 2012, that's two years ago :p Surprisingly, he's already got 33 caps !...but although Clermont were very interested earlier during the year, it's Toulon that got him..probably the Saffer mafia there helped emotionally, Clermont aren't Saffa-flavored at all. Bakkies is his idol if I recollect correctly ("if I recollect correctly", a good one for stutterers..) and Eben was always the player profile Toulon were after, and he's brand new to the world, all fresh and ready to pound those rucks and they know how to coach a pack over there.

What can I say right now...it sucks, in absolute terms. But that's just the way it's going to be, from now on. It's all well to field local academy players and all that, but you're not going to beat spears David Smith and Bryan Habana on the wings, Armitage's strength and iron stability at the breakdown, Halfpenny's goal kicking, pure power and real commitment from Taofifenua/Bakkies/Juan Smith in the pack, Guirado's cleanliness and professionalism at hooker...etc...they need to constantly be ahead because in pro sports and a league of this magnitude, you go stale all so incredibly fast, out of fashion and outdated and obsolete. You NEED the big bucks to make sure you're one step ahead at least, which is hard enough to do with all clubs in Europe strengthening.
Toulon still have françised their roster quite a bit and continue to do so, just for Boudjellal to prove a point (very emotional guy, the "foreign legions" thing obviously got to him). And they are still fielding some locals at essential spots in the most important games and aren't afraid to field old timers/club regulars they easily could've thrown away and got much younger, much better...
I'm mixed about Toulon's ways. I see the good, the bad.

This is what happens when politics interfere with sport.

 when have politics *not* interfered with sport ?!!

Owen Williams (Tigers) ---> (Scarlets / WRU Central Contract)

Hope not! Would rather him learn from Mauger at Leicester than return to Wales. He could be a vital player in a big team if he stays.

Owen Williams (Tigers) ---> (Scarlets / WRU Central Contract)

Not convinced. You'd think both Williams and the WRU want him playing 10. How does that work with Preistland there and seemingly still in favour. Unless RP is off somewhere
