Transfers rumours

It's Tim Swiel...

Who?!?

Press release (which I can't seem to link to here) says he's Somerset born and English qualified. But he's going back to The Sharks on Feb 2015.

He's only 21 and has played 23 professional matches... What's the point in signing a foreign guy (admittedly eligible for England) as injury cover if he's had basically no experience?

I'm guessing they might be using it as a trial - and in the immediate future they will be playing in the LV cup which is a tournament for the fringe players and academy kids.

The injury cover rules say that they have to have similar or less experience to the man they're replacing. In this case Ben Botica who is 25 but has never really had any a lot of time at premiership level.

Tim has also apparently played with a couple of the Quins lads at English county level.

Yeah, did a bit of digging and he was an exchange student at Dulwich College and played with some of the young Quins lads in the counties/Southern England set up.

Make it seem a bit less random!

Can any comment on of he's any good?

I don't get your point?

From what I've heard Swiel is an interesting prospect. He's got a pretty impressive highlight reel on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WskrsIasHOE), but he may be better suited to fullback than 10 by the looks of things. He turned down a spot in the South African U20 squad last year as he wanted to keep his international options open (as the U20 team is South Africa's nominated 2nd team now)....

@Patchey

I think Fish is saying that if he's got so little experience why not looking inward and sign a young english player.

You can't, really - unless that player is absolute dog**** their club wont release them.

Ah, I see. I'd agree with rats on that, unless you're Ryan Lamb level of rubbish, you won't get released.

Why we only have two first team 10s and only one academy 10 is a very good question though.

That highlight real looks promising, as does the stuff I can find written about him. I expect'd expect him to play this weekend, maybe even start as Nev really shouldn't be starting an LV game.

Swiel is an exciting player, a legend in WP age groups. I was hoping his long term future would be with the WP senior side. He has some things to work on but nothing major and he can create something from nothing.

Actually, he has very major things to work on. He has bee dire for U21, anything under pressure, defence, kicking are all issues. Maybe the move will help. Want to trade for RdP?

This isn't at all solid at this point, but...

Nick Evans: Harlequins --> Retirement/Coaching
Danny Cipriani: Sale --> Harlequins

Next season obviously.

Quins forum - person at the club supposedly.

Veracity of these sorts of rumours is always iffy - no particular reason to doubt it, nothing definitive about it either.
Take it for what it is, an unsubstantiated rumour.

That rumour started on the Sale fan forum, and wasn't even a rumour, someone just said that they had a bad feeling it'd happen based on when Evans/Cipriani's contracts are up. It was then tweeted by a few rugby pages on twitter and gone from there.

Apparently Wasps is the one where most whispers are pointing towards.
Once a Wasp always a Wasp, and all that.

Yeah lots of people have been speculating but at this point I doubt there's any substance to it.
However I think Cipriani will be more keen on the idea now that Wasps are moving to Coventry - in that it will feel like something new rather than simply going back in time a few years.

That may be the case - but this rumour started on the Quins forum today.

the rumour mill will be huge leading up to and beyond the RWC , talking of rumours been "advised" today from "someone in the club" that we have signed/agree to sign Cipriani for next year as NEV is to retire and move to coaching staff ...
